There is no single best electric motorcycle for every rider: the right choice depends on how you ride, what is sold where you live, and whether a model’s range and charging setup fit your routine. The manufacturers’ official pages cited here identify a useful pool of models, but they do not establish a verified ranking of 20 bikes currently available in one market. This guide compares the options the evidence supports without filling the gap with unverified picks.

Market matters. The examples below include a 2026 U.S. Can-Am lineup, a U.S. Kawasaki page displaying 2024 models, a 2026 BMW UK model page, Honda Germany’s 2026 WN7 page, and Maeving’s UK range. Confirm local model year, price, order status, dealer support, licensing requirements, and warranty before buying.

How to choose an electric motorcycle

Start with the job the bike needs to do, then compare only models in a similar category. A city commuter, a sport tourer, and a dual-sport motorcycle have different priorities; a headline range or top-speed figure cannot make them equivalent.

  • Riding category: Match the bike to urban commuting, street riding, touring, or on-road/off-road use.
  • Range and test basis: Treat manufacturer range claims as claims, not independent real-world results. Check the stated test cycle or whether the figure is city range.
  • Charging routine: Check charging power, time, connector and access to a suitable outlet. A removable battery can help when parking near a plug is difficult, but confirm local configuration and charging arrangements.
  • Power and speed: Distinguish peak output from continuous output, and understand whether speed figures depend on a mode or temporary boost.
  • Ownership support: Verify local dealer coverage, warranty, service availability, passenger and luggage setup, and any licensing rules with the manufacturer or relevant local authority.

Manufacturer specifications are not independent tests. For example, BMW’s 130 km CE 04 figure is stated under WMTC, while Energica labels its figures as city range. Those are different bases and should not be ranked as if measured in the same conditions.

Electric motorcycles and related models to consider

The following is a sourced shortlist, not a top-20 ranking. It spans different vehicle types and markets; notably, the BMW CE 04 is an electric scooter rather than a conventional motorcycle. Confirm current local availability before treating any model as a purchase option.

Model Best suited to What the cited manufacturer source establishes What to verify
Can-Am Pulse Urban riding Can-Am positions it for urban use. The 2026 U.S. lineup lists a starting price of $10,999. The 2026 specification book states 47 hp peak (35 kW), 27 hp continuous (20 kW), 80 mph sustained top speed, and a 20%–80% charge time of 50 minutes. U.S. price and 2026 configuration; charging conditions; availability and support in your market.
Can-Am Origin On-road and off-road use Can-Am positions it for on-road/off-road riding. The 2026 U.S. lineup lists a starting price of $11,499. Local model year, price, equipment, range, and order status.
Kawasaki Z e-1 Urban street riding Kawasaki’s U.S. electrification page lists a $7,599 starting MSRP, two lithium-ion packs, ROAD-mode speed of 53 mph (63 mph with e-boost), and ECO-mode speed of 40 mph (45 mph with e-boost). The product page describes the packs as removable. The product page and pricing reflect U.S. information; the source page displays a 2024 model. Check current local model status and battery/charging configuration.
Kawasaki Ninja e-1 Sport-style urban riding Kawasaki’s U.S. electrification page lists a $7,899 starting MSRP, two lithium-ion packs, ROAD-mode speed of 55 mph (65 mph with e-boost), and ECO-mode speed of 40 mph (47 mph with e-boost). Current model year, local availability, removable-battery details, and charging configuration.
BMW CE 04 Urban commuting; an electric scooter BMW lists 31 kW maximum output, an 8.9 kWh gross / 8.5 kWh net traction battery, and 130 km range under WMTC. Standard charging is 2.3 kW; an optional quick charger is 6.9 kW. BMW UK identifies its page as the 2026 model. Specifications are from BMW Motorrad Norway, while the model-year page is UK-specific. Confirm local configuration, price, and availability.
LiveWire ONE Sport touring LiveWire presents the ONE as an electric sport tourer. Current price, model availability, and local purchase and service support.
Honda WN7 Electric street riding Honda Germany presents the WN7 as a 2026 electric motorcycle. The German page does not establish availability in other countries. Confirm local specifications and sales status.
Energica Experia Touring Energica lists the model with manufacturer-stated performance and city-range figures. Current regional stock and the specific configuration offered locally.
Energica EsseEsse9 Naked street riding Energica lists the model with manufacturer-stated performance and city-range figures. Current regional stock and the specific configuration offered locally.
Energica Eva Ribelle Naked street riding Energica lists the model with manufacturer-stated performance and city-range figures. Current regional stock and the specific configuration offered locally.
Energica Ego Sport riding Energica lists the model with manufacturer-stated performance and city-range figures. Current regional stock and the specific configuration offered locally.
Maeving RM models UK-focused electric motorbike use Maeving’s UK site presents an electric motorbike range that includes RM models. Which RM variants are currently offered, their specifications, and whether they are available outside the UK.

The named manufacturer pages support 12 entries or model families, not 20 distinct, verified, currently orderable motorcycles in one country. They do not provide a consistent set of prices, range tests, charging data, warranties, or dealer coverage across all entries, so a numerical ranking would imply a comparison the available specifications cannot support.

What the key specifications mean in practice

Range claims are not directly interchangeable

BMW’s 130 km CE 04 claim is explicitly under the Worldwide Harmonised Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC). Energica labels its range figures as city range. These claims describe different test bases, so neither provides a direct like-for-like estimate of everyday riding distance. Ask the local dealer for the specification applicable to the exact model and market, and plan around your route, speed, weather, and charging opportunities rather than relying on a single headline number.

Charging time depends on the model and equipment

BMW’s Norway technical page gives the CE 04 2.3 kW standard charging and an optional 6.9 kW quick charger. Can-Am’s 2026 Pulse specification book gives a 20%–80% charge time of 50 minutes. The figures describe different products and do not establish a shared test setup; confirm which charger and conditions apply to the configuration you can buy.

Peak and continuous output answer different questions

Can-Am lists the Pulse at 47 hp peak and 27 hp continuous. Peak output describes maximum power, while continuous output is a separate rating; comparing the Pulse’s peak figure with another bike’s continuous figure would be misleading. Check that competing specifications use the same measure.

Removable batteries change the charging question

Kawasaki describes the Z e-1 as using two removable lithium-ion packs. That may matter if the bike cannot be parked beside a charging point, but the source does not establish that every market configuration or local charging arrangement is identical. Confirm what is included and how the packs can be charged where you live.

How to narrow the shortlist before buying

  1. Set your market and riding category. Use an official local manufacturer page or dealer to confirm the exact model and year. Do not treat a U.S., UK, German, or Norwegian listing as proof of availability elsewhere.
  2. Get a current written price. The Can-Am prices and Kawasaki MSRPs cited above are U.S. figures from their respective manufacturer pages; they are not a guide to taxes, fees, or prices in another country.
  3. Compare range only on a stated basis. Record the test cycle or label beside each figure. If a manufacturer does not state the basis in the cited information, do not assume it matches another model’s claim.
  4. Check charging against your parking situation. Ask whether the battery is fixed or removable, what charger comes with the bike, the charging power supported, and the time for the charge level you actually need.
  5. Confirm ownership logistics. Ask about local service access, warranty terms, passenger and luggage equipment, licensing, and parts support before placing an order.
