Lotus unveiled it on September 17, 2024, with a manufacturer-stated target of 1,000 PS—about 986 mechanical horsepower—and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 2.5 seconds. That is not an official 0–60 mph figure, and Lotus has not presented these concept targets as independently tested results.
What is the Lotus Theory 1?
Lotus introduced Theory 1 as its first concept car expressing a vision for “intelligent performance vehicles.” The company describes it as a canvas for design research and technology it may explore for future Lotus products. The design manifesto is built around three ideas: Digital, Natural and Analogue—intuitive interaction, human-centred design and performance engineering, respectively. Lotus cites the Type 72, Esprit and Eleven as visual inspirations. Lotus’s Theory 1 design page presents the concept and its design approach.
It is important to distinguish a concept specification from a production-car specification. Lotus’s announcement supplies target figures, but does not establish that a sale-ready car exists or that those figures have been validated in independent testing.
Does the Theory 1 do 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds?
Not according to the exact metric Lotus published. Its target is under 2.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, equivalent to 62 mph. That distance is longer than 60 mph, so the claim should not be relabelled as a 0–60 mph time. Lotus has not stated a separate 0–60 mph target in the cited announcement.

The same distinction applies to the power figure: Lotus lists 1,000 PS, which is approximately 986 mechanical horsepower. Both are manufacturer figures for the concept, not independently verified production-car performance.

Three seats, a central driver and a technology-led cabin
The cabin places the driver in the centre, with two passenger seats behind and to either side. Lotus says the reverse-opening, wrap-over doors are designed to make entry easier in tight parking spaces. The steering wheel and pedals move toward the driver, and the concept combines steer-by-wire with active damping.

LOTUSWEAR and haptic controls
LOTUSWEAR combines adaptive soft robotic textiles, haptic controls and sensorial audio. Lotus says the textiles were developed with MotorSkins for steering-wheel and seat-pad applications. KEF collaborated on individual headrest soundscapes, intended to create a more personal audio experience for each occupant. These are concept technologies; the announcement does not establish that they are available in a production Lotus.
Other named technologies and collaborators
Lotus identifies NVIDIA computing, Kyocera SLD laser lighting, Pirelli tyres, AP Racing brakes and Carbon-manufactured 3D-printed lattice structures among the concept’s technologies and collaborations. Naming a supplier does not mean a component is a consumer aftermarket product or is compatible with another vehicle.

Aerodynamics, materials and the “Challenge of 10”
The concept’s aerodynamic features include a movable rear spoiler, cooling elements and underbody aero. Lotus says the tub uses recycled chopped carbon fibre; the body uses cellulose composite and polycarbonate; and recycled glass is used for the greenhouse. Its “Challenge of 10” is a design goal to use ten main A-surface materials. That stated aim should not be read as an independently verified sustainability assessment.
