Lordstown Motors Is Now Nu Ride: What Happened to the Foxconn Fight?

Lordstown Motors emerged from bankruptcy as Nu Ride, retaining its Foxconn claims but not its former EV manufacturing business. In 2026, the company added an insurance and wealth-management platform.

Short answer: Lordstown Motors did not emerge from bankruptcy as a revived electric-truck manufacturer. On March 14, 2024, it emerged from Chapter 11 under the legal name Nu Ride Inc., with the OTC Pink Market ticker NRDE. The reorganized company retained cash, investments, tax attributes, and legal claims—most notably its lawsuit against Foxconn. As of August 11, 2026, that lawsuit remained unresolved, while Nu Ride had also begun rebuilding around an insurance and wealth-management platform.

What changed when Lordstown became Nu Ride?

The name change marked a fundamental change in the company, not a relaunch of the Lordstown Endurance pickup. The bankruptcy court confirmed Lordstown’s restructuring plan on March 6, 2024. Once the plan’s conditions became effective, the company emerged on March 14 as Nu Ride Inc. Its common stock was assigned the OTC Pink Market ticker NRDE.

Nu Ride’s post-bankruptcy filings describe an entity with a much different balance sheet and purpose from the former EV startup. Instead of operating a vehicle factory or selling a current electric pickup, the company’s principal assets and activities included:

  • Cash and short-term investments;
  • Loans receivable;
  • Claims and causes of action connected with the Foxconn dispute;
  • Other retained litigation claims;
  • Net operating-loss carryforwards and other tax attributes;
  • Administration of remaining bankruptcy claims; and
  • Exploration of strategic alternatives and potential business combinations.

In other words, Lordstown’s corporate successor preserved the possibility of recovering value from the old business, but it did not preserve the old business itself. Nu Ride’s 2025 annual filing described revenue as very limited and no longer characterized the company as an operating EV manufacturer.

How Lordstown’s Foxconn relationship developed

The Foxconn dispute grew out of a series of agreements intended to give Lordstown access to manufacturing capacity and additional capital. The relationship began with an agreement in principle announced on September 30, 2021.

The arrangements contemplated selling Lordstown’s former General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio, to a Foxconn affiliate and having Foxconn manufacture the Endurance under a contract-manufacturing arrangement. The companies also pursued a joint-venture structure. On November 7, 2022, Lordstown entered an investment agreement under which Foxconn agreed to make additional equity investments; that agreement superseded an earlier joint-venture agreement.

That structure was supposed to address two of Lordstown’s biggest problems: the need for a factory capable of building the Endurance and the need for enough money to continue development and production. Instead, the agreements became the foundation of the litigation that survived Lordstown’s bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy and the lawsuit began on the same day

On June 27, 2023, Lordstown Motors and its subsidiaries commenced Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. On the same day, Lordstown Motors and Lordstown EV Corporation filed an adversary proceeding against Hon Hai Precision Industry, Foxconn EV Technology, Foxconn Ventures, Foxconn (Far East), and Foxconn EV System.

In its complaint, Lordstown alleged that Foxconn breached the investment agreement and other agreements and engaged in fraudulent and tortious conduct that damaged Lordstown’s operations and prospects. Those are allegations made by Lordstown in disputed litigation. They are not findings that Foxconn committed wrongdoing.

Foxconn moved to dismiss the claims. Among other arguments, it contended that the disputes were subject to arbitration and that Lordstown had not stated legally viable claims. The resulting decisions were primarily about where the claims could proceed and whether the complaint had cleared the initial pleading hurdle—not about who ultimately won.

What the 2024 dismissal ruling actually decided

On August 1, 2024, the bankruptcy court issued an opinion and order that partially granted and partially denied Foxconn’s motion to dismiss. The order was later amended on October 1, 2024.

The court dismissed two claims in favor of arbitration. It allowed the remaining nine claims to proceed because, at the motion-to-dismiss stage, it found that Lordstown had pleaded viable claims and that those claims were not subject to mandatory arbitration.

Important distinction: Nine claims surviving a motion to dismiss is not a victory on the merits. At that stage, the court generally evaluates whether the pleaded allegations, assumed to be true for purposes of the motion, could support a legal claim. It does not decide whether the allegations will ultimately be proven or award damages.

The two arbitration-related claims were not necessarily rejected as factually impossible. They were removed from the court case because the court determined that arbitration was the appropriate forum. The nine surviving claims remained subject to the next stages of litigation, including factual development and further legal proceedings.

What happened on appeal?

Foxconn appealed aspects of the bankruptcy court’s ruling. On September 12, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware affirmed the bankruptcy court’s order and denied Foxconn’s request for certification of a direct appeal.

One issue involved whether several defendants that had not signed the relevant joint-venture agreement could enforce that agreement’s arbitration clause against the parties involved. The district court concluded, among other things, that Foxconn had not shown that those non-signatory defendants could enforce the arbitration provision in the circumstances presented.

The district-court decision affirmed the procedural ruling. It did not determine that Lordstown had proved its allegations, establish that Foxconn breached its agreements, decide the amount of damages, or guarantee that Nu Ride would collect money.

Nu Ride’s later SEC disclosures continued to describe the outcome as uncertain. The company warned that it could not assure that it would have sufficient resources to pursue the claims, prevail in the litigation or arbitration, receive any recovery, or know when a recovery might occur. The supplied filings do not report a final merits judgment or a completed recovery as of August 11, 2026.

Nu Ride’s financial position after bankruptcy

The company’s filings show why the Foxconn claims mattered to Nu Ride’s ability to continue. At December 31, 2025, Nu Ride reported approximately:

Balance-sheet item Amount
Cash and cash equivalents $34.4 million
Short-term investments $4.7 million
Restricted short-term investments $5.1 million

At March 31, 2026, the company reported approximately:

Balance-sheet item Amount
Cash and cash equivalents $25.1 million
Short-term investments $7.3 million
Restricted short-term investments $2.6 million

These are balance-sheet snapshots taken on different dates, not a measure of damages or evidence that the Foxconn case produced a recovery. Restricted investments also should not be treated as freely available operating cash. Nu Ride’s March 31, 2026 filing said its ability to continue as a going concern depended in part on resolving claims and realizing value from retained causes of action, including the Foxconn litigation.

The 2026 shift into financial services

The most important update to the original Lordstown-after-bankruptcy story came in July 2026. On July 15, Nu Ride announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Affinity Advisory Holdings Corp., had completed the acquisition of Affinity Advisory Network, LLC and AAN Wealth Advisors, LLC.

Nu Ride described Affinity as an Ohio-based platform combining insurance distribution and registered investment-advisory services. According to the company’s investor-relations materials, the platform supports a nationwide network serving clients in more than 700 U.S. cities.

This transaction does not revive the Endurance program. It represents a separate strategic direction: Nu Ride is no longer relying solely on the former EV company’s remaining cash, tax attributes, and litigation claims while it considers alternatives. It is also attempting to build an operating platform in insurance and wealth management.

Because the acquisition was completed on July 15, 2026, the supplied March 31 quarterly figures predate the transaction. Those figures therefore should not be read as a full financial picture of the combined business after the acquisition.

What happened to the Endurance and the Lordstown factory?

The Endurance was the electric pickup at the center of Lordstown Motors’ original business plan. Lordstown acquired a former General Motors manufacturing plant in Ohio and intended to use it to produce the truck. Its later agreements with Foxconn contemplated transferring the facility and outsourcing Endurance manufacturing to Foxconn.

After the bankruptcy, however, Nu Ride’s filings described its retained assets as cash, investments, loans receivable, legal claims, tax attributes, and related assets—not as an active vehicle-production operation. The company was not presented as a manufacturer selling a current Endurance model.

That distinction matters for car shoppers and EV readers. The fact that Nu Ride continues to litigate over agreements connected with the Endurance does not mean the truck has returned to production, that a new model year exists, or that the former factory is operating as a Lordstown Motors plant. The corporate litigation and the vehicle program are now separate questions.

What the Foxconn case does—and does not—mean

It does mean:

  • Nu Ride retained substantial claims arising from Lordstown’s relationship with Foxconn.
  • Two claims were directed to arbitration rather than continuing in the bankruptcy court litigation.
  • Nine claims survived the motion-to-dismiss stage.
  • The Delaware district court affirmed the relevant bankruptcy-court ruling in September 2025.
  • The claims remain potentially important to Nu Ride’s financial future.

It does not mean:

  • Nu Ride won the case.
  • A court has found that Foxconn committed the alleged fraud or tortious conduct.
  • Nu Ride has been awarded damages.
  • The Endurance has resumed production.
  • The former Lordstown EV business has returned as a normal public auto manufacturer.

The safest description is that Nu Ride preserved and continued to pursue disputed legal claims while looking for ways to operate beyond the failed EV venture. The September 2025 affirmance improved Nu Ride’s procedural position, but it did not settle the underlying dispute.

March 6, 2024 The bankruptcy court confirmed the restructuring plan. The legal conditions for emergence were established.
March 14, 2024 Lordstown emerged as Nu Ride Inc.; the stock received the OTC Pink ticker NRDE. The reorganized company no longer operated as the former EV manufacturer.
August 1 and October 1, 2024 The bankruptcy court issued and then amended its partial dismissal ruling. Two claims went to arbitration; nine survived in court.
September 12, 2025 The Delaware district court affirmed the bankruptcy ruling. The procedural split between arbitration and court litigation remained in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lordstown Motors still making the Endurance electric pickup?

Nu Ride’s post-bankruptcy filings do not describe an active Lordstown EV manufacturing business or a current Endurance production program. The Endurance remains important to the history of the Foxconn relationship, but the company emerged from Chapter 11 as a litigation- and asset-management entity rather than as a normal vehicle manufacturer.

Did Nu Ride win its lawsuit against Foxconn?

No. The bankruptcy court allowed nine claims to proceed after partially ruling on Foxconn’s motion to dismiss, while two claims were sent to arbitration. A Delaware district court affirmed that procedural ruling in September 2025. Neither decision resolved the ultimate merits, awarded damages, or guaranteed a recovery.

What is Nu Ride’s stock ticker?

When Lordstown Motors emerged from Chapter 11 on March 14, 2024, its common stock received the OTC Pink Market ticker NRDE. The ticker and the company’s legal name do not by themselves indicate that the former EV business has resumed. This article is not investment advice.

What does Nu Ride do now?

Nu Ride’s filings described its post-bankruptcy activities as administering claims, pursuing the Foxconn litigation and other retained causes of action, managing cash and investments, maintaining tax attributes, and considering strategic alternatives. On July 15, 2026, it completed the acquisition of Affinity Advisory Network and AAN Wealth Advisors through a wholly owned subsidiary, adding an insurance-distribution and registered-investment-advisory platform.

Does the Foxconn ruling guarantee money for Nu Ride?

No. Nu Ride has warned that the outcome, timing, amount of any recovery, and its ability to fund the litigation remain uncertain. A surviving claim is an opportunity to pursue relief, not a judgment or an asset with a guaranteed cash value.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Lordstown Motors came out of Chapter 11 on March 14, 2024 as Nu Ride Inc., not as a revived EV maker. It retained the Foxconn claims and enough assets to continue pursuing them, but the courts have not decided the underlying allegations or awarded damages. By July 2026, Nu Ride had added a separate insurance and wealth-management platform, making the most accurate current description a corporate successor managing old EV-era claims while building a new financial-services business.
