Lexus LC 500 vs. Mercedes-AMG GT: How the Grand Tourers Differ (2026)

The 2026 Lexus LC 500 starts at $101,800 with a 471-hp naturally aspirated V8. See how it compares with the current Mercedes-AMG GT 43, GT 55, GT 63 and higher trims.

The 2026 Lexus LC 500 is the lower-priced, naturally aspirated V8 alternative to Mercedes-AMG’s much broader GT Coupe range. At the published U.S. prices reviewed on October 13, 2026, the LC 500 starts at $101,800 including delivery, processing and handling. The current AMG list starts with the rear-wheel-drive GT 43 at $108,850, then rises to $137,450 for the GT 55 and $184,000 for the GT 63. The right choice depends less on the badge than on whether you want the LC’s high-revving V8 character and simpler specification or the AMG’s wider spread of power, chassis technology and available all-wheel-drive V8 models.

The short answer: which one is better?

There is no single Mercedes-AMG GT specification to compare with the Lexus. In the United States, “AMG GT Coupe” is a family name covering the GT 43, GT 55, GT 63 and higher-performance derivatives. Comparing the 2026 LC 500 with the current GT 43 is a relatively close performance contest on paper: Lexus quotes 471 horsepower, a 4.4-second 0–60-mph time and a $101,800 starting MSRP, while Mercedes-Benz USA lists the GT 43 at 416 hp, 4.5 seconds to 60 mph and $108,850.

Move to the AMG GT 55 or GT 63, however, and the decision changes fundamentally. Those cars use AMG’s 4.0-liter biturbo V8 architecture and are positioned above the GT 43 in price and performance. The LC 500 remains a rear-drive coupe with one naturally aspirated V8 specification. The AMG range therefore gives buyers more choice, but it is not a like-for-like model unless you identify the exact trim and model year.

  • Choose the 2026 LC 500 if you value a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, rear-wheel drive, four-seat coupe packaging and a lower published entry price.
  • Choose the AMG GT 43 if you want a turbocharged, hybrid-assisted four-cylinder coupe with similar quoted acceleration, rear-wheel drive and AMG’s newer GT platform.
  • Choose an AMG GT 55 or GT 63 if V8 torque, available all-wheel drive and the AMG chassis systems matter more than purchase price or mechanical simplicity.

These conclusions use manufacturer specifications and positioning. The supplied material does not establish independent ride quality, braking distances, cabin-noise measurements, luggage-volume tests, reliability rankings or ownership-cost comparisons.

What exactly is being compared?

The Lexus side

The subject is the 2026 Lexus LC 500 Coupe, the naturally aspirated V8 member of Lexus’s LC range. Lexus’s 2026 model-year announcement gives one core powertrain: a 5.0-liter V8, 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. It is described as a four-seat flagship sports coupe that balances sporting intent with comfort.

The Mercedes-AMG side

The Mercedes-Benz USA page reviewed October 13, 2026, lists several AMG GT Coupes:

Trim listed by Mercedes-Benz USA Published U.S. MSRP How to interpret it
AMG GT 43 Coupe $108,850 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with hybrid assist; rear-wheel drive specification shown on the page
AMG GT 55 Coupe $137,450 V8 model; current trim equipment and drivetrain should be confirmed when ordering
AMG GT 63 Coupe $184,000 Higher-output V8 model; current trim equipment and drivetrain should be confirmed when ordering
AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE $205,000 Higher-performance variant listed by Mercedes-Benz USA
AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ $205,000 Higher-performance variant listed by Mercedes-Benz USA

Mercedes-AMG’s second-generation GT launch announcement describes V8 GT 55 and GT 63 variants with all-wheel drive, but the live U.S. model page is the authority for the currently displayed lineup and trim details. Confirm the exact model year, drivetrain and standard equipment on the vehicle’s build sheet.

Why an older online side-by-side can mislead

A commonly surfaced side-by-side comparison pairs a 2026 LC 500 with a 2021 AMG GT. That is a model-year mismatch and should not be treated as a current-generation specification comparison. It can show that the names have been cross-shopped, but it does not establish how the 2026 Lexus compares with today’s GT 43, GT 55 or GT 63.

Price: the LC starts lower, but AMG’s range spans several budgets

Lexus publishes a $101,800 starting MSRP for the 2026 LC 500, including its $1,550 Delivery, Processing and Handling fee. Mercedes-Benz USA’s displayed prices are $108,850 for the GT 43, $137,450 for the GT 55 and $184,000 for the GT 63; the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE and GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ are each listed at $205,000.

Vehicle Published MSRP Difference versus LC 500 Price qualification
2026 Lexus LC 500 $101,800 — Includes Lexus’s $1,550 delivery, processing and handling fee
AMG GT 43 Coupe $108,850 $7,050 more Mercedes-Benz USA displayed MSRP; trim-specific options may change the transaction price
AMG GT 55 Coupe $137,450 $35,650 more Mercedes-Benz USA displayed MSRP
AMG GT 63 Coupe $184,000 $82,200 more Mercedes-Benz USA displayed MSRP
AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE $205,000 $103,200 more Mercedes-Benz USA displayed MSRP
AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ $205,000 $103,200 more Mercedes-Benz USA displayed MSRP

These are published MSRPs, not out-the-door prices. They do not establish dealer discounts, incentives, taxes, registration, financing costs or option-adjusted transaction prices. The Mercedes lineup is live and may roll over as model years change, so recheck the U.S. configurator before treating any figure as a purchase quote.

Powertrains and performance: similar entry-level acceleration, very different engines

2026 Lexus LC 500: naturally aspirated V8

The LC 500 uses a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 rated at 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic sends power to the rear wheels. Lexus quotes 0–60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a manufacturer-estimated 24 mpg highway.

The naturally aspirated layout delivers its output without a turbocharger or hybrid assist. That gives the LC a distinct high-revving V8 identity, but the available evidence supports describing the character and sound as Lexus product positioning rather than as an independently measured acoustic result. The ten-speed transmission also gives the car a broad ratio spread for relaxed highway cruising while retaining multiple lower gears for acceleration.

Current U.S. AMG GT 43: turbo four-cylinder with hybrid assist

The GT 43 specification displayed by Mercedes-Benz USA is a sharp mechanical contrast: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with hybrid assist, producing 416 hp and 369 lb-ft. It uses an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT nine-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz USA quotes 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds and fuel economy of 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

On the published figures, the LC 500 has 55 more horsepower and 29 more lb-ft than the GT 43, while the AMG’s quoted 0–60 time is only 0.1 second slower. That illustrates why peak horsepower alone does not determine acceleration: gearing, launch strategy, vehicle mass, hybrid assistance and traction all affect the manufacturer’s result. It does not prove that either car will win every independent test.

AMG GT 55 and GT 63: the comparison changes with the V8 trims

Mercedes-AMG’s second-generation GT announcement identifies the GT 55 and GT 63 as 4.0-liter biturbo V8 variants and describes all-wheel drive for those V8 GT models. The announcement gives a historical launch figure of 577 hp, 590 lb-ft and 3.1 seconds to 60 mph for the GT 63. That number belongs to the 2024 launch announcement and is not established here as a current 2026 specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not apply the GT 43’s 416-hp output, rear-drive layout, nine-speed transmission or 4.5-second time to the GT 55 or GT 63. Conversely, do not use the historical GT 63 launch figure as though it were the current specification of every AMG GT listed today. A fair article, quote or purchase comparison must name the AMG trim and model year every time it cites performance.

Specification 2026 Lexus LC 500 AMG GT 43 Coupe, current U.S. listing AMG GT 55/63 context
Engine 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with hybrid assist 4.0-liter biturbo V8 architecture described for V8 GT variants
Output 471 hp; 398 lb-ft 416 hp; 369 lb-ft Historical GT 63 launch figure: 577 hp; 590 lb-ft
Transmission 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed automatic Confirm current trim-specific specification
Driven wheels Rear-wheel drive Rear-wheel drive AMG launch announcement describes all-wheel drive for V8 GT 55/63 variants
Manufacturer 0–60 mph 4.4 seconds 4.5 seconds Historical GT 63 launch figure: 3.1 seconds

Fuel economy: the published numbers are not perfectly apples to apples

Lexus gives the LC 500 a 24-mpg highway estimate. Mercedes-Benz USA lists the GT 43 at 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The official material reviewed does not establish comparable combined-mpg figures, so it would be misleading to rank the cars on a single combined number.

The figures are manufacturer-published estimates, not a promise of what every driver will achieve. Traffic, temperature, tire choice, speed, terrain, driving mode and short-trip use can all move real consumption away from the label estimate. The AMG V8 trims should not inherit the GT 43’s fuel-economy numbers; their engines and drivetrains are different.

Transmission, traction and how the hardware affects the choice

Rear-wheel-drive simplicity in the LC 500

The LC 500’s rear-wheel-drive layout keeps the specification straightforward and preserves the traditional front-engine, rear-drive grand-tourer formula. Lexus pairs it with a 10-speed automatic rather than a manual transmission. Buyers seeking an available sport package can specify a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, performance dampers and brake pads, and Alcantara-trimmed seats. The package is described as available, not standard on every LC 500.

GT 43 rear drive versus V8 AMG systems

The current GT 43 page lists rear-wheel drive, making it the closest AMG drivetrain match to the LC 500. AMG’s V8 GT announcement adds a more elaborate chassis story: AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization, rear-axle steering and active aerodynamics are described for the V8 GT versions discussed. Exact standard-versus-optional status and availability can vary by trim and model year, so verify the build sheet rather than assuming every GT receives every system.

All-wheel drive can improve launch traction and confidence on wet or cold roads, but it also adds hardware and complexity. Rear-wheel drive offers a more traditional balance and, in the GT 43 and LC 500, makes the comparison simpler. Neither layout alone determines handling quality; tire specification, alignment, suspension tuning and driver inputs matter as well.

Touring comfort, seating and everyday practicality

Seating

Lexus presents the LC as a four-seat coupe. Mercedes-Benz USA lists four-passenger capacity for the GT 43, while Mercedes-AMG describes the second-generation GT as offering available 2+2 seating. The wording matters: seating configuration and rear-seat usability can depend on trim and options.

A four-seat rating does not tell you whether adults will be comfortable in the rear, how easy the seats are to access or whether a child seat will fit. Those are physical-fit questions that require an inspection with the intended passengers and equipment. No independent rear-seat measurement is established here.

Luggage and daily use

Mercedes-AMG positions the second-generation GT Coupe as combining dynamic driving with enhanced everyday comfort and luggage practicality. Michael Schiebe, chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach business units, said: “The new AMG GT Coupe combines highly dynamic driving characteristics and distinctive sportiness with a high level of everyday comfort.” That is the manufacturer’s positioning statement, not an independent road-test conclusion.

Lexus similarly emphasizes a balance of sporting intent and comfort for the LC. The available evidence does not provide a directly comparable luggage-volume measurement, loading-opening dimensions, cabin-noise test or visibility assessment. If your priority is commuting, airport runs or carrying passengers, inspect both cars in person with your normal luggage and check the exact seat configuration.

What can be stated confidently

  • Both are positioned as luxury-oriented performance coupes rather than stripped track cars.
  • Both can be configured as four-passenger coupes, subject to AMG trim and option details.
  • AMG explicitly emphasizes everyday comfort and luggage practicality for the second-generation GT.
  • No independent evidence in the supplied material establishes that one has a quieter ride, better visibility, more usable rear seats or greater cargo capacity.

Which car is faster?

Against the current AMG GT 43, the 2026 LC 500 is fractionally quicker on the manufacturers’ published 0–60 figures: 4.4 seconds versus 4.5 seconds. It also has the higher rated output. That is the narrow answer when the question means LC 500 versus GT 43.

It is not the answer for the AMG GT family as a whole. The GT 55 and GT 63 are V8 models above the GT 43, and Mercedes-AMG’s historical GT 63 launch specification quotes 3.1 seconds to 60 mph. Because that figure is tied to a 2024 announcement rather than verified current 2026 data, use it as historical context only. A current purchase decision should use the exact GT trim’s latest Mercedes-Benz specification sheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Manufacturer acceleration times are controlled claims. They are useful for understanding intended performance but do not replace an independent test conducted with the same tires, surface, weather, fuel load and timing method.

Which one offers the better value?

Why the LC 500 can be the value choice

  • Its $101,800 published starting MSRP is below the $108,850 GT 43 and substantially below the GT 55 and GT 63.
  • It provides 471 hp from a naturally aspirated V8 without requiring an AMG V8 price step.
  • The standard specification is easy to understand: one engine, rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic.
  • The available sport package adds a limited-slip differential, performance dampers and brake pads, and Alcantara-trimmed seats for buyers who want more hardware without changing cars.

Why the AMG may justify its premium

  • The GT family offers a lower-output GT 43 and substantially more powerful V8 trims, allowing buyers to choose a performance level rather than accepting one Lexus configuration.
  • The V8 AMG models are associated with all-wheel drive in the launch architecture and with active roll stabilization, rear-axle steering and active aerodynamics.
  • The GT 43’s 19/27-mpg city/highway listing provides a more complete official fuel-economy picture than the LC’s published highway estimate, although the figures are not directly comparable without combined ratings.
  • AMG explicitly develops the second-generation GT around everyday comfort and luggage practicality as well as dynamic driving.

“Value” therefore depends on what you count. If it means the lowest entry price for a V8 grand tourer with near-4.5-second quoted acceleration, the LC 500 has the stronger case. If it means access to a more configurable performance ladder and advanced chassis systems, the AMG range offers capabilities the single Lexus trim does not.

Common mistakes when researching this comparison

Treating “AMG GT” as one car

Always write the trim—GT 43, GT 55, GT 63, GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE or GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+—next to every price and performance figure. The engine, output, drivetrain and price change across the range.

Mixing model years

A 2026 LC 500 paired with a 2021 AMG GT is not a current-generation comparison. Check the model year on every specification page, especially when a search result combines old reviews with new pricing.

Using the GT 43 figures for the V8 cars

The GT 43’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 416 hp, rear-wheel drive and 4.5-second claim do not describe the GT 55 or GT 63. V8 AMG figures require their own trim-specific source.

Calling MSRP a transaction price

Published MSRP excludes the uncertainty of incentives, dealer pricing, taxes, registration and options. The reviewed sources do not establish current discounts or out-the-door totals.

Turning manufacturer positioning into test results

“Comfort,” “practicality” and “sportiness” are product descriptions. They are not substitutes for measured ride quality, noise, luggage capacity, braking or cornering tests.

How to choose between them: a practical decision process

  1. Set the budget ceiling. Start with the published $101,800 LC 500 price and compare it with the exact AMG trim, not the family name. The GT 43 is $7,050 higher before options; the GT 55 and GT 63 are $35,650 and $82,200 higher, respectively.
  2. Choose the engine experience. Pick the LC for its 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 character. Pick the GT 43 for a turbocharged, hybrid-assisted four-cylinder. Pick a GT 55 or GT 63 if you specifically want AMG’s 4.0-liter biturbo V8 architecture.
  3. Decide on traction. The LC 500 and current GT 43 specifications are rear-wheel drive. AMG’s V8 launch architecture describes all-wheel drive, but confirm the current trim’s equipment.
  4. Decide how much chassis technology you need. The LC’s available sport package adds specific hardware. AMG’s V8 announcement describes active roll control, rear-axle steering and active aerodynamics. Verify whether each item is standard, optional or unavailable on the exact car.
  5. Test the passenger and luggage fit. Both are presented as four-passenger coupes, but rear-seat and cargo usability are not established by the published figures. Bring your normal passengers, child seats and luggage to the showroom.
  6. Recheck the live price and model year. The Mercedes-Benz USA lineup can roll over. Confirm MSRP, destination treatment, options and drivetrain immediately before signing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Lexus LC 500 faster than the Mercedes-AMG GT?

It is fractionally faster on the published 0–60 figures than the current U.S.-listed GT 43: 4.4 seconds versus 4.5 seconds. It is not faster than every AMG GT; the GT 55 and GT 63 are more powerful V8 variants, and the historical GT 63 launch specification quoted 3.1 seconds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the LC 500 cheaper than an AMG GT?

It is cheaper than each AMG price listed in the reviewed U.S. snapshot. The LC starts at $101,800 including its $1,550 delivery, processing and handling fee; the GT 43 is $108,850, the GT 55 $137,450 and the GT 63 $184,000.

Does the AMG GT have four seats?

The GT 43 page lists four-passenger capacity, and Mercedes-AMG describes available 2+2 seating for the second-generation GT. Confirm the exact configuration and rear-seat space on the trim and options you are considering.

Which has better fuel economy?

The official figures are formatted differently. Lexus estimates 24 mpg highway for the LC 500. Mercedes-Benz USA lists 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the GT 43. No directly comparable combined figures were established, and the GT 43 numbers should not be applied to AMG V8 trims.

Does every AMG GT have all-wheel drive?

No blanket answer is safe. The current GT 43 specification reviewed is rear-wheel drive. Mercedes-AMG’s launch announcement describes all-wheel drive for the V8 GT 55 and GT 63 variants. Verify the exact current trim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the LC 500 a practical daily driver?

Lexus positions it as a four-seat flagship sports coupe balancing sporting intent and comfort. That supports a grand-touring use case, but the supplied material does not provide independent measurements of ride comfort, cabin noise, visibility, rear-seat usability or luggage capacity. Inspect the car with your real daily requirements.

Bottom line

The 2026 Lexus LC 500 is the clearer choice for a buyer who wants one distinctive, rear-drive naturally aspirated V8 coupe at the lowest published price in this matchup. The AMG GT 43 is the closest numerical rival, with nearly identical quoted acceleration but a turbocharged hybrid-assisted four-cylinder and a $7,050 higher starting MSRP. The GT 55, GT 63 and higher AMG variants are not simply faster versions of the same comparison; they move the car into a different price and power class. Name the trim, verify the model year and treat manufacturer figures as specifications—not substitutes for an independent drive—before deciding.
