Those are manufacturer specifications and claims for the 2026 model year, not independent test results and not proof that every earlier used LC has identical equipment or performance.

“BMW 8 Series” is a family, not a single engine
BMW’s 2026 warranty document lists three coupe variants: 840i, 840i xDrive and M850i xDrive. The same document lists convertible and Gran Coupe body styles separately. A comparison page from iSeeCars gives the BMW’s base engine as 335 hp, but that number should not be applied to every 8 Series trim. An M850i xDrive is a different proposition from an 840i, and a Gran Coupe is a four-door vehicle rather than the coupe named in this comparison.
For a used example, verify the VIN, build sheet and original window sticker. Model-year naming, equipment and available drivetrains can change, so a listing headline alone is not enough to establish which 8 Series you are evaluating.

The numbers establish the LC 500’s character and the danger of treating the BMW nameplate as one vehicle. They do not establish what either car should cost today, how much a particular example will consume in fuel, or which will incur lower repair bills.

That comparison is directional. The opened iSeeCars page does not define a dated cohort for the estimate, and it does not turn the percentages into a guaranteed value for a particular VIN. Depreciation varies with model year, mileage, accident history, service documentation, options, color, geographic market and asking-price discipline. A low-mile, well-documented M850i can behave differently from a high-mile 840i, just as a neglected LC can underperform the model average.

- Find several listings with the same body style and a narrow model-year range.
- Match mileage bands as closely as possible.
- Separate clean-title, accident-repaired and branded-title examples.
- Compare options and drivetrain, especially 840i versus M850i and rear-wheel drive versus xDrive.
- Check completed-sale evidence where available instead of treating asking prices as achieved values.

That absence matters when a seller or article presents a generic “cheaper to own” claim. The LC’s manufacturer-estimated 24 mpg highway figure cannot be converted into annual fuel cost without mileage and local fuel prices. Likewise, a BMW xDrive or M850i may have different consumables and service needs from an 840i, but no matched cost schedule is established here. Obtain model-specific insurance quotes and a pre-purchase inspection estimate before making a budget decision.

Choose the LC 500 when character is the point
