The Lexus LC 500 is expensive to run mainly because it uses premium fuel and requires the maintenance, tires, and repair support expected of a high-performance luxury coupe. Edmunds rates the 2025 LC 500 at 18 mpg combined and estimates $10,670 in maintenance plus $862 in repairs over five years for a coupe driven 15,000 miles per year. Those figures are planning estimates, not guaranteed bills. Your actual budget depends on mileage, fuel prices, model year, service history, warranty coverage, tire fitment, driving conditions, and local labor rates.
Build the budget in four separate lines: fuel, scheduled maintenance, unscheduled repairs, and tires. Keeping those categories separate prevents a low fuel estimate or an unusually good first year from hiding the longer-term ownership exposure.

What counts as an LC 500 running cost?
For an LC 500, ownership cost is more than the payment and insurance. A useful operating budget includes:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Fuel: premium unleaded multiplied by the gallons required for your annual mileage.
- Scheduled maintenance: oil and filter service and the inspections required by the service schedule for your exact model year and body style.
- Repairs: work caused by component failure or damage rather than a scheduled service operation.
- Tires and consumables: replacement tires and other wear items that depend on fitment, mileage, road conditions, and use.
Model year and configuration matter. The Lexus manual library separates documents by production period, LC 500 body style, and convertible or coupe variants. A 2025 coupe estimate should not be treated as a forecast for a 2020 convertible, and a used car with deferred service can require a very different first-year outlay from a new car.

Edmunds lists the 2025 Lexus LC 500 at 18 mpg combined. The same listing displays two coupe city/highway pairs, 16 city/24 highway and 15 city/25 highway, depending on configuration. Use the rating that matches the vehicle’s body style and specification rather than substituting a different LC version.
| 2025 LC 500 listing | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coupe configuration A | 16 mpg | 24 mpg | 18 mpg |
| Coupe configuration B | 15 mpg | 25 mpg | 18 mpg |
Premium unleaded is specified in Edmunds’s 2025 LC specifications. Fuel cost therefore changes with the premium price at your local station, not just with the number on the window sticker. The planning equation is:
annual miles ÷ applicable combined mpg × local premium price per gallon
For example, enter your own annual mileage and the current premium price into that equation. Treat the result as an estimate: stop-and-go traffic, short trips, weather, hills, tire condition, highway speed, and driving style can all move actual consumption away from the published combined rating. If most of your driving is urban, the city rating is a more conservative planning reference; predominantly steady highway use may be closer to the highway figure.

Do not use LC 500h hybrid economy figures for an LC 500 budget. The hybrid is a separate powertrain, and its fuel data does not describe the V8 LC 500 covered here. Likewise, do not use a generic “LC” fuel number when comparing a coupe with a convertible or another model year.
A practical way to make fuel spending visible is to calculate three scenarios in your spreadsheet: your normal annual mileage, a high-mileage year, and a low-mileage year. Keep the mpg assumption and premium price in separate cells so you can update them when your commute or local fuel prices change.
Maintenance: follow the schedule for the exact year and configuration
Lexus maintenance requirements are model-year specific. The correct interval, fluid specification, inspection list, and warranty conditions come from the owner’s manual and warranty-and-services guide that match your LC 500’s production year and body style.
What the 2020 Lexus guide documents
The 2020 LC 500 Warranty and Services Guide includes scheduled oil and filter replacement. It recommends SAE 5W-30 for that guide’s vehicle, describing it as the best choice for fuel economy and cold starting. That is a 2020-specific recommendation; it should not be generalized to every LC 500 year without checking the matching manual.

The same guide lists inspection work that includes fuel lines and connections, the fuel-tank cap gasket, chassis fasteners, exhaust components, and a road test. These checks are easy to overlook when an owner thinks only about oil changes, yet they are part of documenting that the car has been maintained according to the manufacturer’s program.
How to use the Lexus manual library
- Identify the vehicle’s model year and whether it is a coupe or convertible.
- Open the Lexus manual and service material for that production period and vehicle type.
- Record every scheduled operation, fluid specification, and inspection interval in a calendar or maintenance spreadsheet.
- Ask the servicing facility to show which listed operations were completed and to itemize parts, fluids, labor, and any recommended work separately.
Do not buy oil solely because a label matches the 2020 guide. Use the viscosity and specification printed in your own year’s manual. SAE 5W-30 is relevant to the cited 2020 guide, but the manual for another year controls that car.
Why service history changes the budget
A complete history lets you distinguish scheduled work that is due from work that has already been performed. On an older or high-mileage LC 500, missing records create uncertainty: the first owner may have deferred a service, used an independent specialist, or completed work at a dealer whose records you have not yet obtained. Budget for verification and written estimates rather than assuming that a clean-looking car has a current schedule.
Edmunds’ five-year ownership estimate
For the 2025 LC 500 coupe, Edmunds models $10,670 in maintenance and $862 in repairs over five years, using an assumption of 15,000 miles driven per year.

| Cost category | Five-year modeled amount | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled maintenance | $10,670 | Edmunds estimate for a 2025 LC 500 coupe at 15,000 miles per year |
| Repairs | $862 | Edmunds estimate under the same five-year, 15,000-mile assumption |
These are modeled ownership values, not invoices, warranties, or a promise of what any individual owner will pay. The estimate does not establish a universal annual bill, and it should not be treated as a maximum repair exposure. Condition, accident history, previous maintenance, climate, driving pattern, local labor rates, warranty status, and the age of a used car can all change the result. It also applies to the listed coupe; do not automatically transfer it to a convertible or another model year.
Fuel is not included in those two figures. Add your premium-fuel calculation separately, then create a separate reserve for tires and any work your inspection identifies. Keeping the categories separate makes it easier to see whether a higher budget is caused by mileage, fuel prices, scheduled service, or an unexpected repair.
Repairs and wear items: what the published figures do not tell you
The available ownership estimate provides a total repairs figure but does not establish authoritative itemized prices for brakes, tires, common failures, or dealer labor. Avoid treating an online list of replacement prices as a verified LC 500 tariff. A quote from a Lexus dealer or an experienced independent specialist in your area is more useful for a specific car.

Tire cost is highly dependent on the vehicle’s exact fitment, the tire specification selected, local availability, and how quickly the tread wears in your use. When comparing two cars, record the tire sizes and brands currently fitted, inspect tread depth and age, and obtain a written price for a complete replacement set. A car that needs tires immediately can change the first-year budget even if its scheduled service history is excellent.

Repairs on an older or out-of-warranty car
The $862 five-year repair estimate for the 2025 coupe is not a cap for an older, modified, damaged, or poorly documented vehicle. Before purchase, have an independent technician perform a pre-purchase inspection and provide photographs or written findings. Ask for separate estimates for safety-critical work, overdue scheduled service, and discretionary recommendations so you can decide what must be done immediately.

- Define the car: write down model year, coupe or convertible body style, mileage, warranty status, and whether it is the LC 500 rather than the LC 500h.
- Set annual miles: use your actual commute, trips, and expected weekend driving; create a second high-mileage scenario if your usage is uncertain.
- Calculate fuel: divide annual miles by the applicable combined mpg, then multiply by your local premium price per gallon. Recheck the price periodically.
- Extract the service schedule: use the matching Lexus manual and list each operation by time and mileage. Do not copy an interval from another model year.
- Price local labor: request written estimates from a Lexus dealer and a qualified independent specialist. Ask whether the quote includes parts, fluids, shop supplies, tax, and disposal fees.
- Inspect tires and records: include the cost of any tire replacement, missing service, or diagnostic work identified during a pre-purchase inspection.
- Separate reserves: keep scheduled maintenance, repairs, tires, and fuel in different budget lines so an unusually quiet repair year does not erase the reserve you may need later.
This process produces a vehicle-specific budget rather than a generic “cost per year” number. Update it after each service invoice and whenever your mileage or premium-fuel price changes.
Buying a used LC 500 without underestimating ownership cost
For a used example, the purchase inspection and paperwork are as important as the advertised price. Confirm the vehicle identification number, model year, body style, mileage, and warranty status. Then request the complete service history and compare completed operations with the schedule in the corresponding Lexus guide.
- Look for documented oil and filter services and the inspections listed for that year.
- Check whether the fuel lines, fuel-tank cap gasket, chassis fasteners, exhaust components, and road-test requirements were addressed when applicable to the vehicle’s guide.
- Measure tire condition and verify that the installed fitment matches the vehicle’s specification.
- Obtain written estimates for every item the inspector identifies instead of relying on a seller’s verbal assurance.
- Use the car’s location to account for local labor rates and premium-fuel prices; a budget built for another region may not transfer.
A lower-mileage car is not automatically cheaper if it has long periods without documented service, aged tires, or a history of damage. Conversely, a higher-mileage car with complete records may be easier to budget because upcoming work is visible.
Common budgeting mistakes
- Using regular gasoline in the calculation: the 2025 specifications call for premium unleaded, so a regular-grade price understates fuel spending.
- Mixing powertrains: LC 500h hybrid ratings do not describe the V8 LC 500.
- Applying the 2020 oil guidance universally: SAE 5W-30 is cited in the 2020 guide; verify the specification for every other year in its own manual.
- Turning an estimate into a guarantee: Edmunds’ $10,670 maintenance and $862 repair values are modeled five-year amounts for a 2025 coupe at 15,000 miles per year.
- Ignoring tires: tires are a separate budget category and can become an immediate first-year expense on a used car.
- Skipping an inspection: without a pre-purchase inspection and written local quotes, you cannot reliably convert a published ownership estimate into a price for one specific vehicle.
Bottom line for an LC 500 ownership budget
Start with 18 mpg combined for the 2025 LC 500 listing, budget for premium gasoline, and apply the city/highway figures that match the coupe configuration. Add the model-year-specific Lexus service schedule, then use Edmunds’ five-year modeled amounts of $10,670 for maintenance and $862 for repairs only as a reference point for a 2025 coupe driven 15,000 miles annually. Finally, price tires and any inspection findings locally. That combination gives you a defensible budget without pretending that one published estimate can predict every LC 500, every driver, or every repair bill.
