Lexus offers three electrified ES versions for the 2026 model year. The ES 350h is a conventional self-charging hybrid: it combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with Lexus’s sixth-generation hybrid system and does not require plugging in. How to choose between hybrid and electric
Choose the ES 350h when energy access is uncertain
The ES 350h can be filled at any gasoline station and continues to operate without a home charger. That makes it the lower-friction choice for apartment residents without assigned charging, frequent long-distance travelers, or households that cannot reliably charge overnight. Its 46-mpg FWD rating is the best efficiency figure in the lineup. AWD lowers the rating to 44 mpg but adds a rear electric motor for traction; it does not increase horsepower.
The hybrid also avoids planning around charging stops on road trips. You still need to budget for gasoline and routine engine-related maintenance, but the purchase decision does not depend on installing equipment or confirming public-charger availability.
Choose the ES 350e when range and entry price matter most
The ES 350e uses one 221-hp motor driving the front wheels. With standard 19-inch wheels, its EPA-estimated range is 307 miles, the highest published figure for any 2026 ES. Selecting 21-inch wheels reduces the estimate to 292 miles. It is also the least expensive ES version on the current U.S. price list, making it the straightforward BEV for a buyer who can charge at home and does not need AWD or maximum acceleration.

The ES 500e uses two motors and Lexus DIRECT4 all-wheel drive. Its 338 hp is the highest output in the range, and Lexus estimates 0–60 mph in 5.1 seconds. EPA-estimated range is 276 miles on 19-inch wheels or 272 miles on 21-inch wheels. That difference is modest in absolute terms, but the 500e’s higher price and lower range make sense only if electric AWD, quicker response or the associated equipment matters to you.

The least expensive ES is the 350e Premium at $48,895. The least expensive hybrid is the 350h Premium FWD at $51,095, while the range-topping listed model is the 500e Luxury AWD at $60,295. The 350e Luxury and 350h Premium+ are both listed at $57,295, but they are different powertrains with different equipment strategies; compare the features rather than treating the identical price as an equivalence.
What changes between Premium, Premium+, and Luxury
ES 350h Premium versus Premium+
The hybrid is available in Premium and Premium+ trims, with either FWD or AWD. Premium+ adds four notable convenience and technology features:
- Advanced Park with Remote Park.
- Panoramic View Monitor.
- 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson audio system.
- Digital Key 2.0.
Premium+ is worth the additional $4,800 over a same-drivetrain Premium only if you value those specific additions. If a surround-view camera, remote parking, premium audio or phone-based key is not important, the lower trim preserves the hybrid’s value proposition.
ES 350e and ES 500e Premium versus Luxury
Both BEV powertrains are offered in Premium and Luxury. Luxury makes Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist standard. On Premium, those functions are available through the Convenience Package rather than included as standard equipment. Confirm the vehicle’s installed package when comparing dealer inventory; a Premium with the package may satisfy your needs without moving to Luxury, while a Luxury’s standard inclusion may be simpler if you want both systems.
Executive Package availability
The Executive Package is available only on the ES 350e Luxury. It adds power-adjustable rear seating with an ottoman, heated and ventilated rear outboard seats with massage, rear climate controls and two additional USB-C ports. This is a rear-passenger comfort package, not a performance upgrade. It is most defensible for owners who regularly carry adults in the back or use the ES as an executive-oriented sedan; front-seat drivers should not pay for equipment they will rarely use.

Charging the ES 350e and ES 500e
DC fast charging
Both BEVs use a NACS J3400 charge port and can accept up to 150 kW at a compatible DC fast charger. Lexus says a 10-to-80-percent charge can take about 28 minutes under ideal conditions. That is a best-case manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every stop. Battery temperature, starting state of charge, charger output, weather and the station’s ability to share power can all lengthen the session. Charging from 80 to 100 percent is also generally slower, so road-trip planning should not assume that the final 20 percent arrives at the same rate.

Level 2 home charging
An 11-kW onboard AC charger enables Level 2 charging in about seven hours under ideal conditions. A home installation must be able to supply the required circuit and power; actual time varies with the home’s electrical service, the charger and temperature. A NACS-compatible Level 2 home charger is the most useful setup for an owner who can park overnight at home.
Included cables, adapter and public access
Each BEV includes a dual-voltage Level 1/Level 2 charging cable and a CCS-to-NACS adapter. The adapter lets you use compatible CCS public equipment in addition to NACS stations. Lexus documents compatibility with more than 76,000 Level 2 and Level 3 public charging stations nationwide, and also documents Plug & Charge capability and battery preconditioning. Check that Plug & Charge is activated and that your preferred routes have compatible, working stations before relying on them for long trips.
Standard technology and safety equipment
Every 2026 ES, regardless of powertrain or trim, includes a 14.0-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen, a 12.3-inch driver Multi-Information Display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless device charging. Every version also receives Lexus Safety System+ 4.0.

A step-by-step way to select your ES
- Decide how you obtain energy. If you cannot charge reliably at home or work, start with the ES 350h. If overnight charging is dependable and you are comfortable using public stations on longer trips, compare the BEVs.
- Set your traction requirement. Select FWD for the ES 350e or 350h FWD when maximum range or efficiency is the priority. Select 350h AWD or 500e AWD when regular snow, steep unpaved access or other low-traction conditions justify the added system.
- Set your performance requirement. The 221-hp 350e is adequate for an efficiency-focused purchase, the 244-hp hybrid balances power with economy, and the 338-hp 500e is the performance choice.
- Choose wheel size with range in mind. On the 350e, 19-inch wheels correspond to 307 miles versus 292 on 21-inch wheels. On the 500e, the figures are 276 and 272 miles. If range matters more than appearance, retain the 19-inch configuration.
- Choose the trim by equipment, not badge. Hybrid shoppers should decide whether Premium+ additions justify the $4,800 step. BEV shoppers should compare a Premium with Convenience Package against Luxury’s standard Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist.
- Price the complete setup. For a BEV, include a qualified home-charger installation if needed and verify your parking arrangement. For any ES, confirm the window sticker, wheel size, drivetrain, packages and dealer-installed items before comparing offers.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every ES has the same range
Range applies only to the BEVs, and wheel size changes the published estimate. The ES 350h uses mpg ratings instead. Compare vehicles within the same powertrain before treating a number as a direct alternative.
Paying for AWD without a traction need
Hybrid AWD lowers the combined rating from 46 to 44 mpg without adding horsepower. The 500e’s AWD is tied to its dual-motor performance and also carries a lower range figure than the 350e. Buy AWD for the conditions or acceleration it solves, not because the label alone sounds more capable.
Confusing included charging hardware with guaranteed charging speed
The cable and CCS-to-NACS adapter are included, but a 28-minute DC session and seven-hour AC session are ideal-condition estimates. Confirm the station’s actual power, your battery temperature and your starting state of charge when planning a trip.
Comparing trims without checking packages
Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist are not standard on BEV Premium, although the Convenience Package can add them. Premium+ hybrid equipment and the BEV Executive Package also differ substantially. Read the window sticker rather than relying on the trim name alone.
