Lexus’s September 30, 2026 update for the Japan-market RX adds chassis tuning informed by driving at Germany’s Nürburgring. The company says engineers revised adaptive variable suspension (AVS) damping, electric power steering (EPS) and dynamic rear steering (DRS) controls. The U.S. announcement reviewed here does not mention the same changes, but it predates the Japan update; it is not proof that Lexus will never offer them in America.
What changed on the Japan-market Lexus RX?
Lexus says the RX had already undergone chassis development at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama. For this partial update, engineers also worked at the Nürburgring, which the company describes as having more demanding road conditions. The goal, according to Lexus, is a more linear, natural response to driver inputs and better body control on rough surfaces. Which RX versions get the stated tuning?
A footnote in the announcement scopes the Nürburgring-related chassis work to the RX500h, RX450h+ and RX350h AWD. It does not list the RX350 or RX350h 2WD among the versions covered by that statement.

Lexus lists the following Japanese suggested retail prices. They include Japan’s 10% consumption tax and exclude recycling fees; they are not U.S. prices.

What does Lexus’s U.S. announcement say?
Lexus USA’s August 22, 2025 announcement for the 2026 model year lists seven grades: Standard, Premium, Premium+, Luxury, F SPORT Handling, F SPORT Performance and F SPORT Design. It also describes an Appearance Package for F SPORT Handling and F SPORT Performance, based on the 2025 Black Line package. Its listed details include black exterior styling, 21-inch split-five-spoke black-finish wheels, orange brake calipers and a black interior with gray stitching. That comparison has a timing limit: the U.S. release came more than a year before Japan’s September 2026 update. So the accurate conclusion is that the reviewed U.S. announcement does not list the same chassis changes—not that Lexus has ruled them out for the U.S. market or made a permanent decision.

Appearance packages are not chassis updates
Lexus’s earlier U.S. special-edition example is the 2025 RX 500h Black Line Special Edition, which the company said was limited to 500 units nationwide. Its listed features included Incognito paint, black exterior styling, black-finish 21-inch split-five-spoke wheels, orange calipers and a black interior with gray stitching. Is this a Nürburgring edition?
No RX Nürburgring edition is identified in the Japan announcement. Lexus uses the circuit here as a place where engineers tested and tuned the chassis, not as the name of a special model. The distinction matters because Lexus has used “Nürburgring Package” for a different vehicle: in 2010 it announced a 2012 LFA Nürburgring Package, a named package limited to 50 of the 500 globally distributed LFAs, with track-oriented suspension, tires, wheels, aerodynamics and performance changes. Lexus’s Japan release reports approximately 4.3 million cumulative RX sales across approximately 95 countries and regions through the end of August 2026. It presents the Nürburgring work as part of a partial model update, with specific control changes and a defined scope across certain Japan-market versions. It does not provide quantified handling or ride results, nor does the U.S. release establish whether the tuning will later reach U.S. vehicles. For now, the update is confirmed for the Japan-market RX versions named in Lexus’s footnote; a matching U.S. announcement is not present in the reviewed material.
