LEPAS Malaysia’s FAQ says, “LEPAS Malaysia pricing has not yet been announced and will be confirmed closer to launch.” That means any current figure described online as an L4 selling price or on-road price is provisional, not a confirmed quotation.
You can still plan responsibly. Treat the eventual on-road budget as the vehicle price plus insurance, road tax, fuel, scheduled servicing, wear items, financing costs and everyday usage. The calculations below show what is known, what is not yet published, and how to build a defensible monthly and annual allowance without pretending that Malaysian L4 specifications are final.

What the Lepas L4 price situation means today
As of 18 October 2026, LEPAS Malaysia has not released an L4 retail price, variant list, official on-road price or insurance sum insured. The company’s published position is that pricing will be confirmed closer to launch. A dealer estimate, social-media post or imported-market conversion therefore cannot be treated as the Malaysian transaction price.

“On-road price” can also mean different things in advertisements. Ask whether a quoted figure includes registration, road tax, insurance, dealer fees, accessories and financing-related charges. A price shown without insurance is not directly comparable with a price that includes a first-year policy.

Do not add an invented L4 number to the first row and then describe the result as “official on-road price.” Build a range only after the Malaysian price list and variant equipment are released.
Insurance: the first-year cost you cannot responsibly guess yet
Comprehensive motor insurance is a major cash requirement when buying a new car. Malaysia.gov.my states that an active vehicle-insurance policy of at least one year is required for motor-vehicle-license renewal. In practical terms, you need valid insurance before the annual road-tax process can be completed.
Why an L4 premium will vary
- Insured value: A higher vehicle value generally gives the insurer more exposure. The correct sum insured will come from the Malaysian variant and purchase documentation.
- Driver profile: Age, claims history, location and other underwriting details can change the quotation.
- No-claim discount: Your NCD status affects the premium; it is specific to the policyholder and cannot be assumed from the model name.
- Optional cover: Add-ons such as special perils, windscreen or other extensions alter the amount payable.
Request at least two itemised quotations once the L4 price and variant code are available. Check the insured value, excess, named drivers, flood or special-perils cover and every add-on rather than comparing only the final premium. If a dealer bundles insurance into an on-road figure, ask for the standalone premium so you can compare it with an outside quotation.

Road tax is the annual motor-vehicle licence (LKM). The applicable amount must be calculated from the vehicle details registered in Malaysia, not from a foreign-market brochure. Use the JPJ LKM calculator when the final engine capacity, body type and registration details are available.

A report describing the South African-market L4 lists a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. That suggests the 1,401–1,600 cc band may be relevant, but it is not a confirmed Malaysian registration classification. Malaysian homologation, body classification and the final variant can change the calculation. Do not publish or rely on a fixed L4 road-tax amount before JPJ data is confirmed.
What to verify on the quotation
- The exact engine capacity recorded for the Malaysian vehicle.
- The body and vehicle classification used by JPJ.
- The licence period and renewal date.
- Whether the dealer’s “on-road” figure includes one year of road tax or only registration-related charges.
Fuel cost: use your kilometres and the price you actually pay
No Malaysian fuel-consumption result for the L4 has been published. A brochure figure from another market, or the South African-market powertrain report, cannot be presented as the L4’s Malaysian real-world economy. Fuel planning should therefore use a clearly labelled assumption until Malaysian testing and owner data exist.
The calculation
Use this sequence:
- Estimate your annual distance in kilometres from your commute, school runs, weekend trips and long-distance travel.
- Divide annual kilometres by your assumed real-world kilometres per litre to obtain annual litres.
- Multiply annual litres by the pump price that applies to you.
In formula form: annual litres = annual kilometres ÷ real-world km/l; annual fuel cost = annual litres × applicable pump price. Keep the km/l assumption visible in your spreadsheet so you can replace it when a Malaysian result is available.
RON95 prices and subsidy eligibility
For 8–14 October 2026, Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance listed RON95 at RM4.67 per litre without subsidy and RM1.99 per litre for eligible BUDI MADANI recipients. Those are period-specific prices, not a guaranteed annual rate. Eligibility and future weekly prices can change, so run two columns in your budget if you are unsure whether BUDI MADANI pricing applies.

The difference between those two pump prices can materially change the ownership total, especially for high-mileage drivers. A fuel estimate that omits your annual kilometres, assumed economy or eligibility status is not a meaningful L4 running-cost estimate.
Servicing, tyres and other mechanical costs
LEPAS Malaysia has not published an L4 service schedule, labour rate or scheduled-maintenance price. Set aside a provisional maintenance allowance, but label it as a planning assumption rather than an L4 fact.
Scheduled work to expect
- Engine oil and oil-filter replacement at the manufacturer’s specified interval.
- Air and cabin-filter inspections or replacement.
- Brake-fluid replacement and brake-system inspections.
- Diagnostic checks, software updates and general safety inspections.
- Inspection of cooling, suspension, steering and transmission systems.
The final Malaysian service booklet should determine the interval by time and mileage. Ask the dealer for a written schedule showing each service’s parts, labour and taxes. A low entry service price can be misleading if major fluid, spark-plug or transmission work appears later in the schedule.
Wear items that sit outside scheduled servicing
Tyres, the 12-volt battery, brake pads, wiper blades and other consumables depend on mileage, traffic, climate, tyre specification and driving style. Tyre size and replacement price are not yet confirmed for Malaysia, so do not use a foreign-market tyre quote as a guaranteed L4 cost. Keep a separate wear-item reserve rather than treating every repair as an unexpected emergency.

Financing: compare the total repayment, not just the monthly figure
A finance quotation combines the deposit, financed principal, interest, bank fees and insurance treatment. The same car can show very different monthly payments when the deposit or loan tenure changes.
Questions to put on every lender quotation
- Cash price of the exact L4 variant and every dealer-installed accessory.
- Deposit amount and the resulting financed amount.
- Interest rate, tenure and total interest payable.
- Processing, documentation or other bank fees.
- Whether first-year insurance is paid separately or added to the loan.
- Total repayment over the full term.
Use the total repayment to compare offers, then check whether the monthly instalment fits after fuel, insurance, road tax and maintenance. Exact Malaysian rates were not available in the official information used here, and your approved rate will depend on the lender and borrower.

Tolls and parking are route-dependent and can outweigh small annual administrative charges for a daily urban commuter. Add your actual toll route, monthly parking, occasional valet or public-car-park fees, washing, detailing and optional accessories. If you regularly travel on highways, model tolls by trip rather than using a generic monthly guess.
Separate unavoidable ownership costs from discretionary spending. A driver who parks at home and rarely uses tolled roads has a very different budget from someone commuting through multiple toll plazas and paying for workplace parking every day.

What is known about the L4—and what remains provisional
A July 2026 preview reported these dimensions:

A separate Malaysian report described the South African-market powertrain as a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 147 PS and 225 Nm, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Those figures provide context only. Malaysian homologation, equipment, emissions certification, transmission choice and fuel-consumption results may differ. They should not be used to calculate Malaysian road tax or fuel cost until LEPAS publishes the local specification.
Build your personal L4 budget in six steps
- Choose the exact variant. Record the Malaysian list price, equipment and any mandatory accessories from the official price list.
- Split the purchase quote. Ask the dealer to show vehicle price, registration items, road tax, insurance, accessories and finance charges on separate lines.
- Obtain insurance quotations. Use the confirmed sum insured and your own driver, NCD and add-on details.
- Calculate LKM. Enter the final Malaysian engine and body classification in the JPJ calculator.
- Model annual running costs. Enter your kilometres, a clearly labelled real-world km/l assumption, applicable RON95 price, service allowance, wear reserve, tolls and parking.
- Convert to monthly cash flow. Divide annual items by 12, but keep insurance and road tax as separate annual sinking funds so their renewal bills do not surprise you.

What to check when the official price is released
When LEPAS publishes Malaysian pricing, check more than the headline number. Compare each L4 variant on cash price before insurance, complete on-road price with insurance, engine or electrified powertrain, certified fuel consumption, warranty length and mileage limit, scheduled-service costs, tyre size and replacement price, insurance premium, road tax, financing repayment and dealer/service-network coverage. Keep imported-market specifications in a separate column so they cannot be mistaken for Malaysian equipment.
Until those documents exist, the financially sound answer is a method rather than a guessed total: reserve cash for the confirmed purchase price, obtain a real insurance quotation, calculate LKM from JPJ’s registered data, and model fuel and usage from your own driving.
