UP.FIT calls the vehicles fully operational patrol assets, but that is the supplier’s characterization. Its announcement is the source for the conversion details, not an independent evaluation of the trucks in service.
Will the Cybertruck help police catch criminals?
There is no demonstrated answer in the available reporting. LVMPD has stated the calls and duties for which the trucks are intended, while UP.FIT has described their equipment. Neither source reports a measured effect on crime, arrests, deterrence, or performance compared with conventional patrol vehicles. The Cybertruck’s conspicuous shape may attract attention, but appearance alone is not evidence that criminals are less likely to offend.

What does the conversion supplier say about costs?
UP.FIT says the fleet was funded through private donations and projects lower fuel costs. It estimates about $2,000 in annual electricity costs per truck compared with more than $12,000 in gasoline costs for comparable patrol duty, and describes the difference as roughly $10,000 in annual fuel savings per vehicle. These are supplier estimates, not audited LVMPD operating results; the announcement does not independently validate the assumptions or report actual savings after deployment.
UP.FIT also cites an eight-year or 150,000-mile manufacturer battery and drive-unit warranty. That is the warranty term as presented by the supplier in its 2025 announcement; warranty coverage depends on the applicable Tesla terms and should not be read as a guarantee of the truck’s total service life or police-conversion equipment.

How does the Las Vegas deployment compare with Dubai’s?
Dubai Police added a Cybertruck to its luxury tourist-patrol fleet in June 2024, according to The National. That is a different stated role from LVMPD’s patrol and tactical-call deployment.

The National also reported a 547 km range, 0–100 kph acceleration in 4.3 seconds, and a top speed of roughly 180 kph for the Dubai vehicle. Those are figures reported in its 2024 article, not results from an independent test of either police deployment.

What is established—and what is not
The solid news is that LVMPD announced 10 Cybertrucks for patrol use and that UP.FIT describes police-specific modifications. The intended duties and equipment are documented; claims about crime deterrence, superior effectiveness, or realized cost savings are not established by the cited announcements and reporting.
