The Lamborghini Lanzador debuted in 2023 as an all-electric concept, not a production SUV. Lamborghini presented it as a high-clearance 2+2 “Ultra GT” and initially expected a production version from 2028. But in a report published February 23, 2026, Electrive said CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the electric Lanzador would not enter production, with Lamborghini instead pursuing a plug-in hybrid model.
What is the Lamborghini Lanzador?
The Lanzador was a design and technology concept unveiled by Automobili Lamborghini during Monterey Car Week in August 2023. It previewed a planned fourth model line, but it was not a retail vehicle with a final specification, price, or launch date. Lamborghini called it a high-ground-clearance 2+2 Gran Turismo and introduced the term “Ultra GT.” The “SUV” label is useful shorthand for its raised stance and practical ambitions, but it is not the category Lamborghini used at launch.
The concept combined a low, sloping profile and supercar cues with versatility Lamborghini associated with the Urus. Its roof was around 1.5 metres high, according to the company’s 2023 unveiling release. The intended layout offered two front seats and two rear seats, with adjustable rear seating, luggage space, a front trunk and a wide-opening glass tailgate.
What electric performance did Lamborghini announce?
Lamborghini described one electric motor on each axle, providing all-wheel drive, with active e-torque vectoring at the rear axle. It claimed peak output above one megawatt—more than 1,000 kW—but this was a concept figure, not a validated production specification or independent test result.

The company also outlined active aerodynamics, rear-wheel steering, air suspension, selectable driving modes and an integrated driving-dynamics system. It did not provide final range, battery capacity, charging time, price or production homologation details for the concept. Those figures therefore cannot be treated as specifications for a vehicle available to buy.
How practical and sustainable was the concept?
The 2+2 layout and adjustable rear seats were intended to make the Lanzador more adaptable than a conventional two-seat supercar. The front trunk and glass tailgate pointed to additional storage flexibility, although Lamborghini did not publish production cargo measurements.

For the concept cabin, Lamborghini cited Merino wool, regenerated nylon, recycled fibers in 3D-printed seat foam and regenerated carbon. These were materials shown or described for the concept; the company did not confirm them as equipment for a production model.
Was the electric Lanzador supposed to go into production?
Yes, that was the original plan. At the 2023 unveiling, Lamborghini said a series-production car was expected from 2028. Its 2024 environmental statement later described a fully electric model based on the Lanzador concept in its roadmap and gave 2029 for the first fully electric Super SUV. These were historical targets, not a current release schedule.

The status changed before the electric car reached production. Electrive reported on February 23, 2026, that Winkelmann had confirmed the all-electric Lanzador would not be built and that Lamborghini would pursue a plug-in hybrid instead. The report said the decision followed internal discussion, customer engagement, market analysis and global data. The cancellation and rationale are reported by Electrive; a direct Lamborghini cancellation announcement is not established here.

The 2023 concept and the 2026 reported decision describe different stages of the story. The concept showed Lamborghini’s proposed all-electric direction and design ideas; it did not guarantee that those details—or the vehicle itself—would reach production. The reported plug-in-hybrid direction is not a confirmed production specification for a Lanzador-badged car: the report does not establish its final design, powertrain figures, price or release date.

At launch, CEO Stephan Winkelmann called the concept “the Ultra GT.” In Electrive’s 2026 report, he explained the change in strategy: “Investing heavily in full-EV development when the market and customer base are not ready would be an expensive hobby, and financially irresponsible towards shareholders, customers [and] to our employees and their families.” He also said of future battery-electric Lamborghini models: “Never say never, but only when the time is right. For the foreseeable future, only PHEVs. We will continue to develop electrification because we also need to be ready.”
The Lanzador was part of a broader electrification roadmap. Lamborghini said in 2023 that it planned more than €1.9 billion in hybrid-technology investment over four years; that figure referred to the company’s wider hybrid program, not a Lanzador development budget. The company’s earlier roadmap is described in its 2024 Environmental Statement.
