Lamborghini’s reported 2026 plan called for four new launches, but they were described as variants or special editions of existing model lines—not four entirely new nameplates. The bigger change is what comes next: on 23 February 2026, Auto Express reported that Lamborghini had shifted the fourth model line from a planned fully electric car to a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The company cited limited demand for pure battery-electric vehicles in the luxury super-sports segment.
What Lamborghini promised for 2026
Autocar reported that Lamborghini planned four launches across major automotive and cultural events, including Imola, Goodwood, Pebble Beach and Miami. The vehicles were characterized as derivatives of existing model lines—variants or special editions—rather than four brand-new model nameplates. The schedule is a reported plan; the available reporting does not independently confirm that every reveal took place.
That distinction matters if you are searching for “four new Lamborghinis in 2026.” The promise was about four launches, not necessarily four wholly new models. Lamborghini’s current official site lists the Revuelto SV and Urus SE Performante, confirming those current listings but not proving that all four planned 2026 launches were completed.
What comes next: the fourth model line moves to plug-in hybrid
The central change is to Lamborghini’s fourth model line. In 2024, the company said it planned a fully electric model for 2028, followed by a fully electric Super SUV in 2029. Auto Express reported on 23 February 2026 that Lamborghini had instead decided the fourth line would launch as a plug-in hybrid.

Auto Express attributed the decision to Lamborghini’s limited-demand assessment of pure battery-electric vehicles in the luxury super-sports market. The publication quoted Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann: “The big step we made was to move the entire brand from ICE to PHEV – and this worked out.” Auto Express also reproduced a statement attributed to Lamborghini’s head office: “Following extensive analysis and ongoing dialogue with dealers and customers, it became clear that the pace of adoption of pure BEV vehicles has slowed considerably, particularly within the luxury super sports segment, where demand remains very limited.”
Those comments describe Lamborghini’s stated rationale, not an independently quantified measure of customer demand. The company has emphasized hybrid technology as a way to reduce CO₂ emissions while retaining the performance character it wants its cars to deliver. Winkelmann also told Auto Express: “We made one promise: the new cars will have a new design, they will be faster, and the benefit for Lamborghini, for the world, and also for you, is they will have lower CO2 emissions.”

How the electric plan compares with the reported PHEV direction
| Question | 2024 announced plan | 2026 reported direction |
|---|---|---|
| Fourth model line | Fully electric model targeted for 2028, according to Lamborghini’s 2024 announcement. | Plug-in hybrid, as reported by Auto Express on 23 February 2026. |
| Electric Super SUV | A fully electric Super SUV was planned for 2029 in the 2024 announcement. | The 2026 report changes the direction of the fourth model line; it does not establish a revised powertrain or schedule for the Super SUV. |
| Stated strategic emphasis | Expansion toward fully electric models, alongside a 2024 target to cut CO₂ emissions per car across the value chain by 40% by 2030 versus 2021. | Lamborghini cited very limited pure-BEV demand in its segment and presented hybridization as a route to lower emissions while preserving performance character. |
The 2028 and 2029 dates belong to the earlier announced plan and should not be treated as current commitments for the fourth line. The reported PHEV decision does not establish whether the production car will retain the Lanzador name or concept design. Nor does it settle the electric Super SUV’s future.
Is Lamborghini cancelling the Lanzador electric car?
It is more precise to say that the fourth model line’s reported powertrain direction changed from fully electric to plug-in hybrid. The available reporting does not confirm whether a production car based on the Lanzador concept will be built, whether it will use another design, or what name it will carry. So “Lamborghini cancels electric car plans” is broader than the evidence supports: the 2026 report concerns the fourth line, while the status of the separately announced electric Super SUV is not established here.

Why the strategy is still in flux
Lamborghini’s 2021 Direzione Cor Tauri roadmap set historical targets: its first hybrid model was to arrive in 2023, with the entire range electrified by the end of 2024. In 2024, the company then announced the 40% value-chain CO₂ reduction target and the fully electric 2028 and 2029 plans. These are dated roadmap statements, not guarantees that remain unchanged.
Lamborghini’s sustainability report says the company initiated a corporate strategy review in early 2026 and expected to complete it in 2027. The eventual conclusions are not established. The reported fourth-line PHEV choice therefore sits within a broader strategy still under review; it does not by itself show whether the 2030 emissions target has been revised.

Business results provide context but do not explain the choice on their own. Automobili Lamborghini reported first-half 2026 revenue of €1.74 billion, up 7.4% year over year, and 5,422 vehicle deliveries, down 4.6% year over year. Those figures do not establish that a particular powertrain caused either result.
