The Lamborghini Countach is both a classic mid-engine V12 supercar first produced in 1974 and a distinct, limited hybrid revival: the 2022-model-year Countach LPI 800-4. The classic car’s value and character depend heavily on its generation and individual history; the modern car is a 112-unit commemorative model with manufacturer-rated combined output of 814 CV. Their names connect them, but their specifications, prices and driving hardware should not be conflated.
What the Countach is—and which one you mean
The Countach name covers a family of classic cars and the later LPI 800-4. CLASSIC.COM dates the original concept’s unveiling to the 1971 Geneva Motor Show and the production LP400’s arrival to 1974. It groups the classic run into five main variants:
| Classic variant | Production years in CLASSIC.COM’s grouping |
|---|---|
| LP400 | 1974–1978 |
| LP400 S | 1978–1982 |
| LP500 S / LP5000 S | 1982–1985 |
| LP5000 Quattrovalvole | 1985–1988 |
| 25th Anniversary Edition | 1988–1991 |
The end date depends on the source’s convention: MotorTrend describes production ending in 1990, while CLASSIC.COM’s variant grouping runs through early 1991. The sources therefore do not support treating one endpoint as uncontested.
The LPI 800-4 is not another year or trim in that original production sequence. Lamborghini presented it as a limited-series hybrid celebrating 50 years since the Countach’s unveiling; the company announced 112 units in 2021.

Classic Countach: design and evolution
Marcello Gandini, working at Bertone, designed the original wedge-shaped bodywork. Angular surfaces, trapezoidal forms and scissor doors became defining visual features. MotorTrend describes the early LP400 Periscopio as the cleanest expression of the original design; later variants added more visible bodywork and aerodynamic elements.
LP400 and LP400 S
The LP400 established the production Countach in 1974. MotorTrend identifies its early configuration with a 3.9-liter V12 and tubular space-frame chassis. In 1978, the LP400 S brought wider fenders and a large rear wing, changing the car’s appearance from the cleaner early profile.
LP500 S / LP5000 S and Quattrovalvole
The engine grew to 4.8 liters in 1982, when the LP5000 S name followed. The later LP5000 Quattrovalvole belongs to the 1985–1988 period in CLASSIC.COM’s grouping. MotorTrend calls the 5000 QV popular with buyers seeking a balance of styling, refinement and performance; that is a buyer-guide observation, not a universal preference.

25th Anniversary Edition
The final named classic variant in CLASSIC.COM’s grouping is the 25th Anniversary Edition, spanning 1988–1991. A photo or listing labeled simply “Countach” may refer to a substantially different body treatment and period than an early Periscopio LP400.

The LPI 800-4 combines a combustion V12 with an electric motor and supercapacitor. The figures below are Lamborghini’s published specifications, not independent test results.
| Specification | Lamborghini’s figure |
|---|---|
| Powertrain | 6,498 cm³ V12, rated at 780 CV (574 kW), plus a 34 CV electric motor and supercapacitor |
| Combined output | 814 CV (599 kW) at 8,500 rpm |
| Maximum speed | 355 km/h |
| Combined fuel consumption | 19.5 L/100 km, WLTP |
| Combined CO₂ emissions | 440 g/km, WLTP |

Review: what distinguishes the classic from the hybrid
The classic Countach’s appeal is rooted in its wedge design and naturally aspirated V12, manual-era character. Its generations differ visually and mechanically, so a review of an LP400 does not automatically describe an LP5000 QV or Anniversary car. The LPI 800-4 instead pairs the nameplate’s angular design cues with hybrid power, all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and adaptive suspension.
There is no independent driving test in the sources cited here, so acceleration, ride, handling, cabin comfort and everyday usability cannot be fairly ranked from these specifications alone. For the classic cars, MotorTrend’s buyer-guide comments point to early Periscopio models for cleaner styling and the 5000 QV for a blend of styling, refinement and performance. Those preferences are useful starting points, not substitutes for assessing a specific car’s condition and history.
Lamborghini Countach pricing
There is no single current price for a Countach. Classic-car values vary by variant, condition, originality, provenance and mileage. The following figures are different kinds of evidence—market benchmarks, a completed sale, an estimate and advertised or unsuccessful-sale figures—and should not be treated as interchangeable.

| 2022 LPI 800-4 | €1,581,250 | Completed sale reported by CLASSIC.COM in 2026. |
| 2022 LPI 800-4 | $1,900,000–$2,400,000 | Bonhams’ estimate for one example at its May 3, 2025 Miami auction, not a confirmed sale price. The catalogue described the car as showing 67 miles at cataloguing. |
| 2022 LPI 800-4 | $2,900,000 | Advertised price on a CLASSIC.COM listing displayed in September 2026; an asking price, not a completed sale. |
| 2022 LPI 800-4 | $2,000,000 | CLASSIC.COM auction lot marked “Not Sold”; not a completed sale. |
CLASSIC.COM cautions that an individual car’s value depends on factors such as condition. A benchmark summarizes market data; it does not account for every difference in a particular car’s originality, records, mileage or provenance. No reliable LPI 800-4 launch MSRP with a stated market, currency and tax basis is established by the sources cited here, so a later listing or auction estimate should not be substituted for one.
What to assess when comparing classic examples
For a classic Countach, the most useful comparison is between actual cars, not just variant names. Review the documentation and condition alongside the styling and specification that matter to you.
- Design: Decide whether you prefer the early LP400’s cleaner Periscopio profile or the wider, more visually developed later versions.
- Originality and provenance: Check whether the car’s specification and history are documented, and whether modifications or restoration work are recorded.
- Condition and maintenance history: Examine the individual car’s condition and available service records rather than assuming that age or variant alone predicts its needs.
- Mileage and rarity: Consider mileage in context with the car’s condition and history; rarity by itself does not establish value.
- Variant-specific value: Use market benchmarks as context, then compare like-for-like cars and obtain an appraisal appropriate to the specific example.
Countach photos: how to identify what you are seeing
Label images by generation and variant whenever possible. An early LP400 Periscopio has the cleaner profile associated with the original design, while later classic variants may show wider flares, additional vents or a rear wing. The LPI 800-4 is a modern reinterpretation, not a photograph of a newly produced classic Countach. MotorTrend’s classic-history feature links a 15-photo gallery; Lamborghini’s LPI 800-4 product page provides exterior and interior views and an augmented-reality/3D experience. Use properly licensed period imagery for classic cars and identify the year or variant rather than using “Countach” as the only caption.
