EPA Punjab announced free vehicle emissions tests in Lahore in June 2025, but the service later became subject to a notified fee schedule and a mandatory-testing order for an initial group of vehicles. The sources available through October 8, 2026 do not establish that testing is still universally free, which booths are operating now, or the complete current model-year schedule. Check with EPA Punjab before travelling or relying on an exemption.
Is the Lahore vehicle emission test still free?
Not for every test, based on the latest fee notice identified here. On June 5, 2025, Radio Pakistan reported that EPA Punjab Deputy Director Ali Ejaz said 60 testing booths were operating in Lahore and that tests were free. That figure and offer describe the June 2025 rollout; they are not confirmation of present-day locations, operating hours, or universal free testing. Radio Pakistan’s report, dated June 5, 2025, quotes Ejaz: “these testing booths will issue green stickers to vehicles that pass the emissions test.”
EPA Punjab issued a fee notification on September 30, 2025, effective October 1, 2025. It sets charges for EPA-conducted emissions tests, except tests conducted as enforcement actions. The notice does not establish that every visit currently incurs a charge, so confirm the fee and whether your test is routine or enforcement-related with EPA Punjab.
What are the EPA emissions test fees?
The EPA Punjab fee schedule effective October 1, 2025 lists these charges by engine capacity for cars and light transport vehicles (LTVs):

Which vehicle model years were ordered to be tested?
EPA Punjab’s October 27, 2025 order made emissions testing mandatory for motor cars and LTVs plying on Lahore roads. Its first phase covered vehicles manufactured from 2010 through 2015, with a deadline of November 15, 2025. The order says schedules for other manufacture years would be issued in due course; the available material does not establish the complete schedule now in force for those years.

The deadline in that order has passed. It should not be treated as a current deadline or proof that a particular car is, or is not, presently required to test. Check EPA Punjab’s latest orders for amendments and later cohort schedules. The order is Order No. 390/PA/DG/EPA/2025, dated October 27, 2025.
What about newer cars?
An earlier EPA Punjab order dated June 5, 2025 exempted cars and LTVs no older than three years from manufacture, giving 2022 as its example year. Because that exemption predates the October 2025 mandate and may have been amended, verify the current rule before relying on it. See EPA Punjab Order No. 263/PA/DG/EPA/2025.

Where can I get an emissions test in Lahore?
The June 5, 2025 launch report named example booth locations, but those are historical references, not a current locator. EPA Punjab’s page titled “Emissions Testing Booths Now Active | Get Your Free Vehicle Tested” does not provide a usable booth roster or current opening hours in the material available. The reported 60 booths were the count on June 5, 2025, and should not be used as a current count.
Before setting out, contact EPA Punjab to confirm a booth’s address, operating status, hours, appointment requirements, applicable fee, and whether it can test your vehicle category. The Environment Protection Department notifications and orders index lists notices in the relevant transport and motor-vehicle section.

Does a VICS station meet the EPA emissions-testing requirement?
Not automatically on the evidence available. The Punjab Transport Department describes its Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) as a vehicle fitness and emissions inspection service focused on public-service and commercial vehicles. Its page displays two Lahore VICS stations and provides online appointments, but it does not establish that a VICS inspection satisfies the separate EPA emissions-testing requirement for private cars.
