A truck fire on the northbound Kwinana Freeway near the Mundijong Road exit ramp in Baldivis caused major delays on Wednesday, 2 April 2025. The freeway reopened after about an hour, but the left lane and exit ramp were still reported closed in updates at the time. This is an archived incident report, not a live traffic alert.
What happened on the Kwinana Freeway?
The fire was reported at about 11:45 a.m. near the Mundijong Road exit ramp, according to 91.7 The Wave. The outlet said the northbound freeway had been closed for about an hour before reopening, while the left lane and Mundijong Road exit ramp remained closed.
PerthNow reported that the right lane had reopened while the left lane remained closed. It described hundreds of vehicles backed up to Safety Bay Road; that was a reported estimate, not a precise vehicle count. Footage showed traffic stopped in both lanes while firefighters worked.
How were drivers affected?
The queue extended back to Safety Bay Road, and motorists were advised to avoid the area and use another route while emergency crews attended. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and towing services were reported at the scene. The Wave reported that the fire had been extinguished.
