Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Top-Speed Run: What Was Still Needed?

In July 2024, Koenigsegg said tire approval remained before the Jesko Absolut’s planned top-speed run. The sources available do not confirm whether that changed or whether the car has since made the attempt.

As of October 8, 2026, the available sources do not confirm whether Koenigsegg has completed a dedicated Jesko Absolut top-speed attempt or whether its tires have been approved for the planned speed. The “one thing” in the headline comes from a July 2, 2024 report: founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg said tire approval was the remaining step before the car was ready to go. That was a statement about the plan at the time, not a verified update on its status today.

What was standing in the way?

In a report published July 2, 2024, Deptam quoted Christian von Koenigsegg as saying: “Now it’s really down to the tires, to have the tires approved for this speed. Then we will be ready to go.” The report said preparation for the planned run was largely complete, but it gave no exact date for the attempt. The quote identifies the remaining hurdle then: approval of tires for the intended speed. It does not establish whether approval has since been granted. Deptam’s 2024 report

No newer statement in the official sources reviewed confirms the tire approval or a completed Jesko Absolut maximum-speed run. Koenigsegg’s model page says the car’s eventual speed remains to be seen; that is not an update on the approval process. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

Why are tires a critical part of a top-speed attempt?

At extreme speeds, a tire must be suitable for the loads and speed involved; fitting a particular model of tire does not, by itself, prove that it has been approved for a specific record attempt. Koenigsegg’s official Jesko Absolut specifications list Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, with Cup 2 R available as an option. Those specifications do not say that either fitment is certified for the car’s planned record speed. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut technical specifications

What is the Jesko Absolut designed to do?

The Absolut is the lower-drag, top-speed-oriented version of the Jesko, distinct from the track-focused Jesko Attack. Koenigsegg lists a drag coefficient of 0.278 Cd and describes the Absolut as its streamlined high-speed model. That figure and design intent explain the car’s purpose; neither is a measured top-speed result. The manufacturer has not published a confirmed maximum speed for the car on its model page. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

The official specification lists a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 1,280 hp on gasoline or 1,600 hp on E85. Those are engine output figures, not evidence of a particular achieved speed. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut technical specifications

Do the Jesko Absolut’s acceleration records prove its top speed?

No. Koenigsegg’s official history lists a 0–400–0 km/h time of 27.83 seconds in June 2024 and a later time of 25.21 seconds on August 7, 2025. These are acceleration-and-braking results, not maximum-speed records, and they do not establish that the car has reached its planned top speed. Koenigsegg official history

How does the planned run relate to the Agera RS record?

Koenigsegg’s history gives two different Agera RS figures from November 4, 2017: a two-way average of 447.19 km/h (277.87 mph) and a separate single-direction public-road speed of 457.94 km/h (284.55 mph). They are not interchangeable: one is an average across opposing-direction runs, while the other is a one-way figure. Koenigsegg official history

A 2021 Autocar report described Koenigsegg’s view that opposing-direction runs help reduce the effects of wind and road inclination, and that independent witnesses and transparent data matter. That is useful context for assessing a top-speed claim, but it is not a universal rule book. When comparing claims, check whether the figure is one-way or a two-way average, what vehicle was tested, who measured it, and how the result was independently verified.
