Komaki currently states 70–80 km per charge for the XR1 electric moped. That is a manufacturer claim, not a verified city-route result. No independently documented test was found that records the XR1’s distance in stop-and-go traffic with a specified rider, load, speed, temperature, route and battery condition. Treat the published band as a reference point, then leave a practical reserve for urban riding rather than planning a trip that uses every stated kilometre.
The 70–80 km figure converts to approximately 43.5–49.7 miles. Komaki also lists the XR1 as a low-speed electric moped with a 25 km/h stated top speed. Its official materials mention regenerative energy recovery and continued riding after the primary battery charge is finished, but they do not quantify how many additional kilometres that feature provides.

What range does the Komaki XR1 claim per charge?
The current figure published on Komaki’s XR1 Electric Moped in 2026 product page is 70–80 km per charge. Komaki’s XR1 product-category listing repeats the same range. The product page does not state a publication year for that number, so it should be read as the manufacturer’s current listed specification rather than a dated laboratory result.
That range is best understood as an advertised operating band under conditions selected by the manufacturer. It does not tell you that every owner will travel 70 km, 80 km or any particular distance on a defined city route. A range specification becomes useful for planning only when its test method is known: average and maximum speed, rider and cargo mass, road gradient, ambient temperature, tyre pressure, battery age, stopping frequency and the point at which the test ends.

What the 25 km/h top speed changes
Komaki identifies the XR1 as a low-speed electric moped and lists a 25 km/h top speed. At that speed, it is aimed at local trips rather than high-speed arterial travel. Lower-speed operation can reduce aerodynamic demand compared with faster riding, but frequent starts, hills, heavy loads and long periods at maximum speed can still reduce the distance available from a charge. The published top speed is a product specification; it is not evidence that the stated range was achieved while riding continuously at 25 km/h.
Why a city trip may cover less—or occasionally more—than the listed band
Urban range is the result of several variables acting together. Komaki’s own blog notes that payload and riding conditions affect range, but it does not provide a controlled protocol or measured XR1 city results. The following factors are therefore practical considerations, not quantified corrections to the company’s figure.
Stop-start traffic and route shape
Repeated acceleration from traffic lights, junctions and congestion uses more energy than a steady cruise. A route with many intersections, short blocks or steep ramps can consume more charge than a smooth, continuous trip of the same map distance. Conversely, a flat route with flowing traffic may use less energy than a hilly route with frequent braking and acceleration.

Rider, passenger and cargo weight
The motor must move the total mass of the rider, any passenger and luggage. A heavier load generally increases energy demand, especially during acceleration and on inclines. Do not apply a fixed kilometre penalty: the available materials do not provide XR1-specific measurements for different payloads.
Speed and riding behaviour
Riding close to the moped’s 25 km/h limit, accelerating sharply and waiting in traffic with repeated throttle inputs can produce a different result from gentle acceleration and moderate speed. Smooth inputs, anticipating stops and maintaining legal, safe speeds can help conserve energy, but no independent test establishes how many kilometres those habits add.
Weather, terrain and battery condition
Headwinds, rain, cold temperatures, rough surfaces and gradients can all change consumption. Battery capacity also changes with age, storage history, charging practice and temperature. The supplied XR1 materials do not quantify any of these effects, so a precise seasonal or battery-age adjustment would be speculative.

How to use the 70–80 km figure for real city planning
Because no controlled city-range result is available, plan with a reserve instead of treating the upper end as guaranteed. Use the steps below to decide whether a proposed route is sensible for your own conditions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Measure the complete outing. Add the distance from home to every stop and back to the point where you can charge. Include detours, errands and the return leg; do not plan only the straight-line distance.
- Describe your load. Record the rider’s approximate weight and list regular cargo such as a backpack, groceries or work equipment. If a passenger may ride, include that mass in the plan.
- Classify the route. Mark steep sections, unpaved surfaces, traffic-heavy junctions and roads where you would need to hold the top listed speed. A route with several of these features deserves more reserve.
- Allow for conditions. Consider forecast temperature, wind and rain, plus the age and recent storage conditions of the battery. The manufacturer has not published a formula for converting these conditions into kilometres, so use them to increase your margin rather than to calculate an exact deduction.
- Set a conservative turnaround point. Plan to reach a charging location before the battery is empty. A trip that appears to fit within the advertised band may become impractical if traffic, a detour or a heavier load appears.
- Record your own result. After charging fully, note the odometer distance, route, average pace if available, load, weather and remaining charge. Repeating the same route over several rides will give you a more relevant personal baseline than an unqualified online number.
What Komaki says about regenerative energy and riding after the primary charge
Komaki describes the XR1 as having a regenerative energy system. In general terms, regenerative systems recover some energy during deceleration and return it to the battery; the amount depends on how often and how strongly the vehicle slows, as well as system limits.
Komaki also says the rider can continue after the primary battery charge is finished. The official product page does not state whether this refers to a reserve mode, a secondary energy source or another operating arrangement, and it gives no additional-distance figure. Treat it as a manufacturer feature claim, not as a promise of extra kilometres. Ask a dealer to explain the operating procedure, available power, speed limitation and whether continued riding requires a separate action.

How to interpret the conflicting “100+ km” statement
A Komaki blog article titled From Streets to Adventures: Why Komaki XR1 Is the Most Versatile Electric Moped for Every Rider, published February 26, 2025, uses a “100+ km” per-charge statement. The retrieved article does not provide a test protocol, route, load, speed, battery condition or explanation reconciling that number with the 70–80 km shown on the current model page and product listing.
Another Komaki blog page, 5 Reasons Komaki XR1 Is the Future of Electric Mopeds, does not establish a controlled city result either. When specifications conflict, the current model page and category listing are the clearer basis for an expected range. The “100+ km” wording should therefore not be used as the XR1’s normal city expectation unless Komaki supplies updated technical documentation explaining the conditions and version to which it applies.
What third-party range information does—and does not—show
BikeDekho’s Komaki XR1 range page labels 70–80 km/charge as the ARAI-claimed range and includes user-review excerpts. The underlying primary ARAI record was not available in the retrieved material, so that label should not be treated as independently verified test evidence.

User comments can reveal ownership concerns such as comfort or charging experiences, but anecdotes do not control for route, speed, weather, payload, battery age or measurement method. They can help you formulate questions for a test ride; they cannot establish a precise city-range number for every XR1.
A clear evidence map for the XR1 range claim
| Source | Figure or statement | How to use it |
|---|---|---|

Questions to ask before relying on the XR1 for daily commuting
- What exact test procedure produced the 70–80 km figure?
- Was the test performed with one rider, and what rider-and-cargo mass was used?
- What average speed, maximum speed, road gradient and stopping pattern applied?
- At what remaining battery level did the test end?
- Does the listed figure apply to the current battery and software version?
- What does “continue after the primary battery charge is finished” mean operationally, and how far can the vehicle travel in that state?
- How does the regenerative system behave on a flat route with little braking?
- What charging equipment and electrical supply are required at home or at a dealer?
Request written answers where possible. A dealer’s explanation may clarify how the feature works, but it should not be converted into a guaranteed range unless Komaki documents the conditions.
Bottom line for city riders
Use 70–80 km per charge as Komaki’s stated XR1 range, not as a verified promise for a particular urban journey. The absence of an independently documented city test means your dependable distance will depend on traffic, speed, terrain, weather, load and battery condition. Plan a reserve, record your own repeated routes and treat the regenerative and post-charge riding claims as features that still require clarification—not as quantified extra range.
