The Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT) is Koenigsegg’s Gemera-specific version of its nine-speed Light Speed Transmission family. It packages gear-train cassettes around the Gemera’s engine and works with the car’s hybrid layout; Koenigsegg says that layout also eliminates the need for a separate reverse gear and starter motor. “Tourbillon” is a Swiss-watchmaking reference, not a mechanical component inside the gearbox.
What the LSTT is
Koenigsegg describes the LSTT as a variant of the Light Speed Transmission first used in the Jesko, redesigned for the Gemera. The Gemera’s technical specifications list it as a nine-speed, multi-clutch gearbox, alongside four-wheel drive and four-wheel torque vectoring. Koenigsegg’s LSTT description and its Gemera technical specifications establish those points.

“Multi-clutch” is the manufacturer’s description. The published material cited here does not state the LSTT’s clutch count, gear ratios, or shift times, so those details should not be inferred from specifications for the original LST.
How the Gemera-specific transmission is arranged
Koenigsegg says the LSTT’s gear-train cassettes wrap around the engine and provide drive to the rear wheels and a front-facing driveshaft. That is a description of the packaging and drive connections, not a complete torque-flow diagram; the cited information does not detail every internal path or ratio.

The Gemera’s layout, including its Dark Matter electric motor, lets the transmission do without a dedicated reverse gear or a separate starter motor, according to Koenigsegg. The company also says the LSTT’s simplified internals and housing make it lighter than the regular LST.
How it differs from the Jesko’s LST
The LSTT belongs to the same transmission family as the Jesko’s Light Speed Transmission, but it is designed around the Gemera’s packaging and driveline. Koenigsegg says its nine-speed gear cluster is closely related to the clusters used in the Jesko and CC850 configurations.

| Feature | Gemera LSTT | Original LST context |
|---|---|---|
| Intended application | Designed specifically for the Gemera, according to Koenigsegg’s Gemera model page. | First seen in the Jesko; the LST family also appears in the CC850, according to Koenigsegg’s LST page. |
| Speed count | Nine speeds, per the Gemera technical specifications. | Nine speeds, per Koenigsegg’s LST description. |
| Published clutch detail | Described as multi-clutch; an exact clutch count is not stated in the cited LSTT information. | Koenigsegg describes the original LST as having seven wet multidisc clutches. |
| Reverse and starter hardware | Koenigsegg says the Gemera layout does not require a reverse gear or separate starter motor. | Not stated in the cited LST description. |
| Gear selection feature | Not stated in the cited LSTT information. | The LST page describes UPOD (“Ultimate Power On Demand”), which selects an appropriate gear and can shift across multiple gears. |
The original LST’s seven-clutch specification and UPOD explanation provide context for the transmission family, but they are not specifications for the LSTT. Koenigsegg’s public descriptions cited here do not give a complete side-by-side account of dimensions, mass, ratios, shift times, or clutch count for both gearboxes.
Why Koenigsegg calls it “Tourbillon”
Koenigsegg says the name nods to Swiss watchmaking. A tourbillon is a watchmaking complication intended to improve a mechanical watch’s accuracy; here, the reference is an analogy for an intricate automotive mechanism, not a claim that the gearbox contains a literal watch tourbillon.

In Koenigsegg’s 2023 production-specification Gemera press release, founder Christian von Koenigsegg explained: “We added ‘Tourbillon’ to the name of the LST, as this mechanism represents the automotive equivalent of a high-end Swiss watch and is simply beautiful.” The statement was published through Cision.

Koenigsegg claims the Gemera’s drivetrain is approximately 150 kg lighter as a result of its powertrain design. That figure is the company’s claim on its Gemera model page, not an independently verified measurement or a published mass comparison of the LSTT alone. The claim concerns drivetrain weight reduction, so it should not be read as the gearbox’s weight.
