The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is larger and roomier than its predecessor, with a redesigned infotainment system and more driver-assistance features. In the U.S., it launches with a gasoline engine and standard all-wheel drive—not a hybrid. Mazda lists starting prices from $29,990 before destination and other charges.
How much bigger is the 2026 CX-5?
Mazda says the 2026 CX-5 is 4.5 inches longer overall and has a wheelbase 4.5 inches longer than the outgoing model. It is also more than half an inch wider. These are Mazda’s published comparisons, not independent measurements. Mazda’s July 2025 announcement attributes the cabin and cargo changes to that larger footprint.

- Mazda says rear passengers gain legroom, knee room and headroom, and the rear door openings are larger.
- The cargo area is nearly two inches longer and more than an inch taller, according to Mazda.
- The cargo lift-in height is reduced by more than half an inch, which may make loading easier.
European-market dimensions published by Mazda are 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,695 mm high. Those figures describe the European specification and should not be treated as a universal measurement for every market. Mazda’s European debut announcement gives those dimensions.
What technology is new?
A larger touchscreen and Google built-in
U.S. models get a 12.9-inch center touchscreen, while a 15.6-inch screen is available on the Premium Plus trim. Mazda calls the optional display the largest screen it has offered in a vehicle. Google built-in brings Google Maps, voice-assistant functions and compatible apps into the vehicle. The current U.S. model page says Google built-in is complimentary for one year with the Mazda Connected Services trial; check local availability and terms for app and assistant features. Mazda’s U.S. CX-5 page lists current equipment and trial details.

These are equipment details, not a hands-on assessment of how easy the interface is to use.
Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 a hybrid?
That depends on the market. The U.S. launch model uses a 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard. Mazda USA lists EPA estimates of 24 mpg city, 30 highway and 26 combined. The figures are EPA estimates, not a guarantee of an individual vehicle’s fuel economy. Mazda has confirmed a separate hybrid powertrain for the U.S. in 2027, but final specifications are not established here. Europe’s announced configuration is different: it pairs a 2.5-liter petrol engine with Mazda M Hybrid. Mazda said European showrooms would receive the model at the end of 2025, with other markets following during 2026. Do not confuse that European mild-hybrid configuration with the future U.S. hybrid. Mazda’s European announcement describes its regional setup.

What should buyers compare?
- Market: Confirm the local powertrain and equipment. U.S. launch specifications and Europe’s mild-hybrid configuration differ.
- Trim: The 15.6-inch screen is reserved for Premium Plus in the U.S.; other trims use the 12.9-inch display.
- Out-the-door cost: Add destination, taxes, title and license fees to MSRP, and account for dealer pricing.
- Space: Mazda publishes the size and room increases, but those claims are not independent cargo-capacity or passenger-space measurements.
- Phone and interface preferences: Compare Google built-in with phone mirroring and consider whether you prefer touchscreen, steering-wheel and physical controls.
