The Koenigsegg Regera is a two-seat, limited-production hybrid megacar built around an unusual idea: its twin-turbo V8 drives the rear axle through Koenigsegg Direct Drive rather than a conventional multi-gear transmission, while three electric motors add power and assist propulsion. Koenigsegg says 80 Regeras were produced. Its official figures distinguish 1,100 hp on premium gasoline from 1,500 hp on E85, with electric-drive output listed separately at 700 hp. A 2020-model-year estimated MSRP of $1.9 million is historical; later auction results are individual sales, not a dependable universal valuation.
What the Regera is—and what makes its layout unusual
Koenigsegg describes the Regera as a luxury megacar alternative to its more extreme, lightweight, race-like road cars. The company says 80 were produced in total. Its defining engineering choice is Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD): instead of a conventional multi-gear gearbox, the combustion engine connects to the rear axle through the KDD system, with electric motors contributing propulsion and torque management. Koenigsegg’s Regera overview describes the system as combining a twin-turbo V8, three electric motors and an 800-volt battery.
The manufacturer locates one electric motor at each rear wheel and a third on the crankshaft. Its overview also describes torque vectoring, regenerative braking and energy conversion through the electric system. These are Koenigsegg’s system descriptions, not independent test findings.
Power and performance specifications
Regera output figures depend on fuel and on which part of the powertrain is being described. Koenigsegg’s technical sheet lists the V8 at 1,100 hp on premium gasoline and 1,500 hp on E85; it separately lists 700 hp for electric drive and combined output of over 1,500 hp on E85. The manufacturer’s overview summarizes total output as 1,500 hp. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable measurements of the same operating condition.

Comfort, convenience and equipment
The Regera’s luxury positioning is reflected in features Koenigsegg lists alongside its high-output hybrid hardware. The overview describes active soft engine mounts, suspension adjustable for height and stiffness, and Autoskin powered body closures with proximity sensing. Cabin trim is available in leather or Alcantara, and the car has two cup holders.

These are equipment details rather than evidence of a particular ride quality, ease of entry, or real-world practicality. The 150-liter luggage compartment is a stated capacity, not a measure of how much luggage a given owner can fit.
Koenigsegg Regera price: MSRP and sale results
Car and Driver’s 2020-model-year review gave the Regera an estimated MSRP of $1,900,000 and reported that the 80-car production run was sold out. That is period editorial reporting: it is not a current asking price or a verified invoice for every car and specification.

Later public sale records offer context, but not a single authoritative value for every Regera:
| Record | Reported result | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 Regera, 2025 Quail auction; result record reproduced by Barchetta MediaCenter | $2,700,000 | A result for one car at one auction, not a general market valuation. View the result record. |
| Shifty market-data page | $3.25 million reported for an August 2026 sale; €2,423,750 reported for January 2024 | Shifty says it has only two sales on file and rates its $3.25 million estimate low confidence. View Shifty’s Regera market page. |
The records have different coverage and may refer to different sale records, so they should not be averaged into a precise price. A particular car’s configuration, provenance, condition, mileage, market and sale date all matter. The available records do not establish a definitive current market value or a verified list of current dealer asking prices.

Photos of the Regera
Koenigsegg’s official Regera model page includes manufacturer photographs showing exterior views, the interior, open-door and rear-clam views, and the Direct Drive system. Captions for images selected from that page should identify the Regera and the view shown—for example, “Koenigsegg Regera, exterior view” or “Koenigsegg Regera, Direct Drive system.” Use of any image remains subject to the manufacturer page’s usage terms; the presence of a photograph on that page does not by itself establish republication rights.
