The Koenigsegg Gemera is a four-seat megacar, but “shift-free” is not a literal description of its drivetrain: Koenigsegg specifies a 9-speed Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT) for the V8 configuration. The car’s unusual proposition is combining that transmission and megacar power with seating for four and claimed room for four carry-on suitcases.
Is the Koenigsegg Gemera really a four-seater?
Yes. Koenigsegg calls the Gemera its first four-seater and describes it as a car for four people with luggage. The manufacturer says four tall adults can sit in the cabin and that the car can carry four carry-on suitcases. Those are Koenigsegg’s claims; the available specifications do not provide an independent passenger-fit or luggage test.
The company also cites eight cup holders and entertainment screens for front and rear passengers as part of the car’s comfort equipment. That helps explain the family-practicality pitch, but it does not establish how the Gemera performs as a daily family car in real-world use.
What does “shift-free” mean if the Gemera has a transmission?
It should be treated as shorthand for the Gemera’s unusual powertrain character, not as a claim that the car has no transmission or gears. Koenigsegg’s V8 specification names a 9-speed Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission, developed specifically for the Gemera. The manufacturer says the transmission contributes to a drivetrain weight reduction of around 150 kg; that is Koenigsegg’s stated comparison, not an independently verified measurement.

The Gemera also has four-wheel drive and four-wheel torque vectoring, according to Koenigsegg. Its official history says the LSTT enabled a new powertrain option as well as those drivetrain features. The available manufacturer material does not provide an independent driving test or a technical explanation sufficient to establish that the car never changes gears in ordinary use.
Which Gemera powertrain does the quoted output describe?
Koenigsegg has published specifications for two distinct Gemera configurations. They should not be combined into a single specification sheet: the TFG three-cylinder configuration and the Hot-Vee V8/Dark Matter configuration use different engines, motor arrangements and battery figures.
| Configuration | Engine and motors | Published combined output | Transmission | Battery and range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TFG, on Koenigsegg’s undated current technical-specifications page | Tiny Friendly Giant twin-turbo three-cylinder engine and three electric motors | 1,700 hp | Not stated on that page | 800 V, 15 kWh; up to 50 km electric range |
| Hot-Vee V8/Dark Matter, on Koenigsegg’s undated current model page | Hot-Vee V8 and Dark Matter motor | 2,300 hp and 2,750 Nm | 9-speed Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission | Not stated on that page |
| Hot V8/Dark Matter, on Koenigsegg’s 2023 technical page | 5.0 L Hot V8 rated at 1,500 hp and Dark Matter motor rated at 800 hp | 2,300 hp combined | 9-speed LSTT | 850 V, 14 kWh |
Figures are manufacturer-published and refer to the specific page and configuration shown. The undated current model and technical pages do not identify a publication year in the available page evidence. Koenigsegg’s history page describes the production-specification evolution: Dark Matter replaced three smaller electric motors, the LSTT enabled a new powertrain option, and a Hot-Vee V8 was introduced.

The concept is a four-person cabin in a car Koenigsegg calls a megacar. Its claims of four tall-adult seating, four carry-on cases, eight cup holders and entertainment screens for both rows point to passenger accommodation rather than a conventional two-seat supercar layout. The available evidence does not include independent measurements of cabin dimensions, cargo volume, child-seat compatibility or comfort over long journeys, so those practical details cannot be confirmed from the manufacturer’s claims alone.

Koenigsegg first revealed the Gemera concept in 2020 and revealed it in production form in July 2023. The current model page says production is limited to 300 cars. That production limit does not establish whether orders are currently available, delivery timing or market-specific pricing.

What is established—and what is not?
- Established by Koenigsegg: the Gemera is presented as a four-seater; the company claims room for four tall adults and four carry-on suitcases; and the V8 version is specified with a 9-speed LSTT.
- Configuration-dependent: the published power figures, engine and motor arrangement, and battery specifications differ between the TFG and Hot-Vee V8/Dark Matter versions.
- Not established by these manufacturer pages: independent real-world range or performance, current availability, delivery timing, prices by market, or market-specific road legality.
