When did Kia reveal the Tasman?
Kia announced that the Tasman would make its world premiere at the Jeddah International Motor Show on October 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. Saudi time (4 p.m. Korea Standard Time and 6 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time). The premiere took place as scheduled, and Kia published the truck’s full details that day. Kia’s October 16, 2024 announcement and October 29 full reveal document the announcement and debut.
Is the Tasman Kia’s upcoming North American pickup?
Not necessarily. Kia has revealed the Tasman, its first pickup, but its April 9, 2026 strategy announcement describes a distinct future pickup aimed at core North American markets. Kia says that planned truck will use body-on-frame construction and have hybrid (HEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) variants, with a target horizon of 2030. Kia has not confirmed that it will be called Tasman.
The 2030 target is a planning horizon, not a confirmed launch date. Kia has not announced a reveal date, on-sale date, final name, price, or detailed specifications for the North American truck. The company’s 2026 CEO Investor Day announcement is the cited basis for those confirmed elements.

What is known about the Tasman?
Kia calls the Tasman its first pickup and says it is designed for work and leisure. Its 2024 release lists utility features including an illuminated power outlet in the load bed, a sliding cargo floor, and 1,173 liters of cargo capacity. Kia also reported that development involved 1,777 specific tests across more than 18,000 evaluation cycles. Those figures describe Kia’s development program; they are not independent safety or reliability ratings.
Specifications and availability vary by market. Kia’s global Tasman specification page warns that vehicle details may vary by region and may change. As one market-specific example, Kia Brasil’s August 2026 announcement for Brazil’s GL market lists a 2.2-liter diesel engine, 210 cv, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and maximum towing capacity of up to 6,200 kg. Those Brazilian figures should not be treated as specifications for other markets.

What remains unknown about Kia’s North American truck?
Kia has confirmed only the broad outline of the planned vehicle. A meaningful comparison with other pickups will have to wait for details such as price, dimensions, payload, towing capacity, driving range, power output, trims, and on-sale timing. Until Kia supplies market-specific specifications, the Tasman’s figures in any one country should not be used as a proxy for the future North American pickup.
