For a new U.S. three-row SUV, compare the redesigned 2027 Kia Telluride with the redesigned 2026 Hyundai Palisade. Choose the Telluride if its published hybrid price, 35-mpg estimate, available seating layouts, or Kia equipment best match your needs. Choose the Palisade if a qualifying hybrid FWD trim, its advertised range, or the documented IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award matters most. Neither is an automatic winner: the model years, drivetrain, trim, destination charge, child-seat fit, cargo measurement method, and current inventory can change the better buy for your family.

What changed: this is a 2027 Telluride versus 2026 Palisade comparison

Older articles often pair a 2025 Telluride with a 2026 Palisade. That is no longer the relevant new-vehicle matchup. Kia’s 2027 Telluride is an all-new generation, and Hyundai’s 2026 Palisade is also redesigned. Specifications from the previous Telluride generation should not be carried into a 2027 purchase decision.

Kia says the new Telluride is longer overall, has more interior room, improved third-row access, and more cargo space than the outgoing Telluride. Those are comparisons with the old Kia, not proof that the Telluride is roomier than the new Palisade. A May 2026 Associated Press report citing Edmunds describes both SUVs as fully redesigned and emphasizes their shared family-oriented, three-row mission. Use the manufacturer pages for current numbers and treat broad review impressions as context rather than as a substitute for specifications.

Do not read the table as a laboratory head-to-head. The fuel figures come from different manufacturer pages and apply to particular front-wheel-drive hybrid trims. The cargo numbers are not measured on a confirmed identical basis, and the gasoline prices are not presented symmetrically because Hyundai’s current page must be checked for the exact Palisade trim and destination charge.

Prices: how much each SUV actually costs

Telluride gasoline pricing

Kia’s January 8, 2026 pricing announcement lists the 2027 Telluride LX FWD at a $39,190 starting MSRP. The listed $1,545 destination charge is extra, so the advertised vehicle-and-destination total begins at $40,735 before taxes, registration, dealer fees, options, or incentives. The destination amount is not a discount and normally applies whether you buy from a local dealer or arrange a factory order.

Kia lists higher prices for other gasoline trims and drivetrains. A higher trim, all-wheel drive, paint, accessories, and dealer-installed equipment can move the transaction well above the LX figure. Ask for a written buyer’s order that separates MSRP, destination, options, documentation fees, government charges, and any discount.

Telluride hybrid pricing

Kia’s February 26, 2026 announcement gives the 2027 Telluride HEV EX FWD a $46,490 starting MSRP. That is $7,300 above the gasoline LX FWD MSRP before accounting for differences in equipment, and it is not an apples-to-apples trim comparison. Kia also lists more expensive hybrid trims and all-wheel-drive versions. Confirm destination, because the published gasoline destination charge should not be silently assumed to be the final amount for every hybrid quote.

Palisade pricing and a fair quote

Hyundai’s current U.S. 2026 Palisade page is the appropriate source for live trim pricing, destination, and equipment. A complete Palisade price table is not established in the information available for this comparison, so do not reuse a price from a 2025 article or an early preproduction announcement. Have the dealer quote a Palisade Hybrid FWD and a Telluride HEV FWD with comparable seating, driver-assistance, wheel, and convenience equipment. Compare the totals after destination and mandatory fees, not two different trim names.

Powertrains and fuel economy

2027 Telluride choices

The redesigned Telluride gasoline model uses a standard turbocharged engine. Kia also offers a turbocharged hybrid rated at up to 329 horsepower. Kia’s published 35 mpg combined figure is an EPA estimate specifically for the HEV EX FWD. It is not a rating for every hybrid trim, every drivetrain, or the gasoline model. All-wheel drive, larger wheels, payload, weather, speed, and driving style can reduce real-world economy.

2026 Palisade hybrid figures

Hyundai lists 33 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined for the Palisade Hybrid Blue SEL and SEL Premium FWD trims. Hyundai also gives an estimated 619-mile range based on an 18.2-gallon tank. That range is a calculated estimate for the specified configurations, not a promise of how far every owner will travel between fill-ups. It assumes the published tank size and rating; cold temperatures, roof loads, towing, traffic, and higher speeds change the result.

How to compare the ratings correctly

  • Match gasoline with gasoline or hybrid with hybrid; a hybrid’s fuel rating is not a fair comparison with a turbocharged gasoline SUV.
  • Match front-wheel drive with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with all-wheel drive.
  • Use the same authority, preferably EPA estimates for both vehicles, and keep city, highway, and combined figures distinct.
  • Budget for fuel based on your annual mileage and local prices, but do not treat a one-mpg difference as a guaranteed ownership saving.

On the published figures alone, the Telluride HEV EX FWD has a one-mpg combined advantage over the specified Palisade Hybrid FWD trims. That narrow difference should not outweigh a major price, seating, availability, or equipment difference.

Seating, child seats, and third-row usability

Seating layouts

Kia lists seven- and eight-passenger Telluride configurations. The exact arrangement affects how many adults can sit across the second row, whether a center position is usable with a child seat, and how easily passengers reach the third row. Palisade seating varies by trim and second-row design, so confirm the exact vehicle rather than assuming every 2026 Palisade has the same layout.

What to test at the dealership

  1. Bring the child seats your family actually uses, including the base and any seat-protector mat. Install them in the second-row positions you expect to use.
  2. Operate the second-row slide, tilt, or one-touch release with a child seat installed. Some mechanisms require the seat to be moved or unoccupied.
  3. Have the tallest regular passenger sit in the third row while the front seats are set for normal drivers. Check knee, foot, head, and shoulder room.
  4. Open the tailgate with all rows upright and load your stroller, sports bags, or groceries. Do not rely on a brochure number alone.
  5. Check whether the third-row seat belts, cupholders, USB ports, climate controls, and visibility meet your daily needs.

Improved third-row access and second-row room are Kia’s claims relative to the previous Telluride. They do not establish a winner against the redesigned Palisade; your car seats and passengers are the decisive test.

Cargo space: a number you can use, but not a winner you can declare

Kia’s current 2027 specification page lists 22.3 cubic feet of SAE cargo volume behind the third row. Kia says that measurement includes volume under the luggage tray cover. The same page lists 48.7 cubic feet behind the second row. Because the corresponding Palisade figure and a verified identical measuring convention are not available here, it would be misleading to announce one SUV as the roomier overall.

When comparing dealer vehicles, raise all three rows, place the same suitcase or stroller in each cargo area, and note whether a floor tray, cover, or underfloor compartment is included. Then repeat with the third row folded. Record whether the vehicle has a powered seat-folding system, a split-fold ratio that suits your gear, and a usable opening height. If you choose a Telluride, Kia lists a cargo tray designed to protect the floor and seatbacks; verify year, powertrain, and seating fitment before ordering any accessory.

Safety and driver assistance

Hyundai’s U.S. Palisade page reports a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ for Palisades built after November 2025. The build-date condition matters: check the door-jamb label or vehicle history when evaluating a specific used, early-production, or dealer-stock vehicle. An award applies to the qualifying production and equipment specified by IIHS, not automatically to every vehicle carrying the same model name.

A current, directly comparable IIHS or NHTSA result for the 2027 Telluride has not been verified in the material available for this comparison. Therefore, neither SUV can be called the overall safety winner here. Before signing, look up the exact vehicle identification number or production specification in the latest IIHS and NHTSA databases and confirm that the standard safety equipment on your chosen trim matches the tested configuration.

During a test drive, evaluate forward visibility, mirror coverage, lane-centering behavior, adaptive-cruise controls, rear-seat reminder functions, and the camera view when backing with children or bicycles nearby. A rating is important, but a system you understand and use correctly is part of practical safety.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the 2027 Telluride when these priorities lead

  • You want the lowest published gasoline entry price and accept the $1,545 destination charge as an additional cost.
  • You want the published 35 mpg combined EPA estimate for the HEV EX FWD and its $46,490 starting MSRP.
  • You need a seven- or eight-passenger layout and prefer the exact Kia second-row arrangement after testing child-seat access.
  • You value Kia’s stated third-row cargo figure and 48.7-cubic-foot behind-second-row figure, while recognizing that Palisade measurements must be checked on the same basis.
  • You find a Telluride in stock with the equipment you need at a better total transaction price.

Choose the 2026 Palisade when these priorities lead

  • You prefer the specified Palisade Hybrid FWD trims’ 34 mpg combined estimate and Hyundai’s 619-mile estimated range based on an 18.2-gallon tank.
  • The exact Palisade trim offers a seating layout, access path, or feature combination that fits your family better.
  • You place substantial weight on the reported 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ for vehicles built after November 2025, after confirming that the vehicle you are buying qualifies.
  • Hyundai’s current quote, incentives, financing, or local inventory produce a lower total cost for comparable equipment.

When neither published advantage settles it

If both vehicles meet your needs, make the decision with a same-day, same-route test drive and written quotes. Drive with the family, install the car seats, fold the seats, and compare the total price including destination and dealer fees. A small fuel-economy difference is unlikely to compensate for an uncomfortable third row, difficult access, or missing equipment you will use every day.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Choose the powertrain first. Decide whether your annual mileage and driving pattern justify a hybrid. Then select FWD or AWD based on traction needs, weather, towing, and cost.
  2. Match equipment. Make a line-by-line list of seats, driver assistance, cameras, climate controls, charging ports, wheel size, and towing hardware. Do not compare an entry Telluride with a highly equipped Palisade.
  3. Verify production and ratings. For a Palisade safety claim, confirm a build date after November 2025. Check the latest available Telluride results rather than assuming the prior generation’s record carries over.
  4. Measure the cabin yourself. Bring car seats, luggage, and the passengers who will use the third row. Test access with the second row in its normal position.
  5. Get an itemized quote. Include MSRP, destination, options, documentation fee, registration, taxes, financing charges, trade-in value, and incentives. Ask whether an advertised discount requires a particular lender or customer qualification.
  6. Confirm availability and fitment. Verify the model year, hybrid or gasoline powertrain, drivetrain, seating configuration, and accessory compatibility on the vehicle identification sheet and window sticker.
  7. Recheck volatile details before purchase. Prices, incentives, inventory, fuel-economy estimates, safety records, and accessory fitment can change after the date of the manufacturer announcement.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Using the wrong Telluride generation: a 2025 Telluride specification does not describe the redesigned 2027 vehicle.
  • Comparing unlike prices: one figure may include destination while the other excludes it, or one may represent a hybrid while the other is a gasoline base trim.
  • Generalizing a hybrid rating: 35 mpg applies to the Telluride HEV EX FWD cited by Kia; 34 mpg applies to specified Palisade Hybrid FWD trims.
  • Declaring a cargo winner from different tests: Kia’s 22.3-cubic-foot figure includes space under its luggage tray cover, and no matching Palisade convention is established here.
  • Applying the Palisade award to every vehicle: the reported TOP SAFETY PICK+ includes a build-date condition after November 2025.
  • Assuming manufacturer claims are independent tests: horsepower, fuel economy, range, room, and redesign benefits should be labeled as manufacturer specifications or estimates unless an independent test is identified.

Bottom line

The 2027 Kia Telluride and 2026 Hyundai Palisade are the current redesigned contenders, but the best choice depends on a matched configuration. The Telluride has the clearest published entry-price and hybrid-price figures and a slightly higher stated hybrid combined-economy estimate for one FWD trim. The Palisade offers a documented 619-mile estimated hybrid range for specified FWD trims and a reported 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ for vehicles built after November 2025. Because current Palisade pricing, identical cargo measurements, and a directly comparable Telluride safety result are not established here, buy the vehicle that wins your real-world seating test and itemized, like-for-like quote—not the one that wins an incomplete spec-sheet comparison.
