1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose the Kia EV9 if your priorities are three-row SUV seating, the longest published UK range, or substantial towing capacity. Choose the Kia PV5 Passenger if easy boarding, sliding-door access and a configurable people-mover cabin matter more than maximum range. Kia UK lists the EV9 at up to 349 miles WLTP in rear-wheel-drive form, while five-seat PV5 versions are listed at 183 or 256 miles depending on battery. The PV5 offers a 399 mm step-in, 775 mm-wide dual sliding doors and up to 1,330 litres behind five seats.
These are manufacturer specifications for the UK market, not independent road-test results. Prices, equipment, battery targets and availability can change, and the PV5 figures are explicitly subject to further development and homologation. Treat the tables as a buying framework, then confirm the exact trim, seats, price, grants and towing limit before ordering.

EV9 and PV5 Passenger at a glance
| Decision point | Kia EV9 | Kia PV5 Passenger | What it means for a family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicle format | Three-row electric SUV | Passenger people mover with dual sliding doors | The EV9 has a conventional SUV driving position; the PV5 prioritises boarding and cabin access. |
| Seat choices | Seven-seat positioning, with six-seat configurations in specified trims | UK price listings include five- and seven-seat versions | Check the actual seat layout, because the PV5 seven-seat range is marked TBC. |
| Published UK WLTP range | 349 miles RWD; 316 miles GT-Line AWD; 313 miles GT-Line S AWD | 183 miles for 51.5 kWh five-seat Essential; 256 miles for listed 71.2 kWh five-seat versions | Compare the exact battery and trim with your longest regular journey. |
| Luggage capacity | 333 litres behind the third row; 828 litres behind the second row | Up to 1,330 litres behind five seats; up to 3,615 litres with the second row folded | Neither headline maximum describes every family configuration, so load your own buggy and bags. |
| Access | SUV entry; swivel second-row seats are available in a specified configuration | 775 mm sliding doors and a 399 mm step-in | The PV5 can be easier in narrow parking spaces and for frequent child-seat loading. |
| Braked towing | 900 kg RWD; up to 2,500 kg AWD | No towing figure was established on the reviewed UK passenger page | For a caravan or trailer near the EV9 AWD limit, the EV9 is the known option. |
Both vehicles can carry a family without exhaust emissions, but they solve different problems. The EV9 concentrates on long-distance range, all-wheel-drive availability and SUV capability. The PV5 concentrates on a low, open side entry and a boxier passenger compartment that can be reconfigured as children, equipment or passengers change.

Who is the EV9 designed to suit?
Kia UK describes the EV9 as an all-electric seven-seat SUV. It is the natural fit for a household that wants three rows in an SUV body and does not want to treat the rearmost seats as occasional emergency places. Six-seat versions appear in specified configurations, replacing a three-person second row with more individual seating and a different access arrangement.

- Match Perfectly---Tailor-made according to the original armrest box. The dimensions and curves perfectly align with the interior, ensuring the armrest tray inserted into the center console remains firm and stable. So it won't slide or make annoying noises when accelerating, decelerating, or stopping.
- Well-made Organizer---It is made of a durable and sturdy ABS shell. The even edge and smooth surface give the armrest storage box an OEM part appearance. Additionally, the provided tasteless and non-toxic rubber liner effectively prevents items from sliding and rattling.
- Easy To Install & Washable---Directly insert it into the lower center console. It's easy to remove and rinse with water for a fresh look in an instant when the center console insert tray gets dirty!
The EV9 also suits families who regularly drive between regions. Its highest published UK WLTP figure belongs to the rear-wheel-drive Air, while the listed all-wheel-drive GT-Line and GT-Line S versions give lower figures. That spread is a reminder that wheels, trim and drivetrain matter as much as the model name. A buyer choosing AWD for traction or towing should not budget on the RWD range figure.
An SUV format may be preferable if you already use roof equipment, want a familiar higher driving position or need a documented braked-trailer rating. The available AWD rating is substantially higher than the RWD rating, so the drivetrain decision affects more than acceleration or traction.
Who is the PV5 Passenger designed to suit?
The PV5 Passenger is a people mover rather than a large SUV. Its defining feature is access: two wide sliding doors and a low step make it easier to load children, reach a third-row child seat and board in a tight parking bay where a hinged door cannot open fully. Kia also describes reclining and folding second-row seats and a wide-opening tailgate.
That layout can be valuable for a family with toddlers, grandparents or a passenger who finds a tall SUV difficult to enter. It can also help when a buggy, sports kit or bulky weekly shop needs to go in without lifting it over a high sill. These are manufacturer dimensions; check the physical vehicle, because seat cushions, door mechanisms and the chosen trim determine how usable the space feels.
The trade-off is that the PV5’s UK range and technical data are still presented as expected targets pending further development and homologation. The seven-seat price entries do not yet have a published range in the UK table. A PV5 therefore makes the most sense when its access and interior flexibility solve a daily problem and your charging routine can accommodate the battery option you select.

Seats, child seats and passenger access
EV9 seating
The EV9’s standard positioning is seven seats, with a six-seat option in some specifications. The six-seat arrangement can give second-row passengers more individual space and may improve movement toward the rear, but it removes the ability to place three people side by side in that row. Confirm whether the exact trim includes swivel seats and how they operate with child-seat bases; a rotating mechanism is not automatically compatible with every restraint.
With three rows occupied, the EV9 remains a genuine family vehicle rather than a five-seater with two occasional perches. Nevertheless, installing three child seats, an adult and a booster across the second row can expose width and buckle-access limitations that a specification sheet cannot show. Take your own seats to the dealer.
PV5 seating
Kia UK’s price table includes five-seat and seven-seat PV5 Passenger lines. The five-seat layout gives the luggage figures published for that configuration. The seven-seat lines are useful if you need three rows, but their range is marked TBC, so a seven-seat buyer must obtain the final battery, homologated range and delivery specification in writing.
The PV5’s side doors are the practical differentiator. A 775 mm opening and 399 mm step-in can reduce bending and make it easier to stand beside a child while fastening a harness. In a narrow supermarket or school-run space, the door slides alongside the vehicle instead of swinging into the next car. Check that the opening remains clear with your preferred child-seat position and that the tailgate can open at home.
Boot space: use the layout you will actually drive
Published litre figures are not directly interchangeable because Kia measures different seat positions. The EV9 has 333 litres behind its upright third row and 828 litres behind the second row. When seats are folded, Kia lists up to 2,318 litres behind the first row for the seven-seat version and up to 2,393 litres for the six-seat AWD version.

The PV5 is listed at up to 1,330 litres behind five seats and up to 3,615 litres with its second row folded. Those numbers describe a taller, more van-like load area, but the maximum requires sacrificing rear passenger seats. If your normal journey carries seven people, the relevant question is not the folded maximum; it is how much room remains for bags when every seat is occupied.

Before choosing, make a loading plan:
- Place every child seat in the row where it will live and check whether a passenger can still reach the buckle.
- Put your folded buggy, school bags, musical instruments or sports equipment behind the occupied rows.
- Measure the height and length of the largest item, not just its stated volume.
- Open the tailgate and side doors in your driveway or parking space.
- Check whether a dog guard, parcel shelf or charging cable storage changes usable space.
Range, batteries and charging
| Vehicle and configuration | Battery or drivetrain detail stated by Kia UK | Published WLTP range | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| EV9 Air RWD | Rear-wheel drive | 349 miles combined | Highest listed EV9 figure; wheel and trim specification affects results. |
| EV9 GT-Line AWD | All-wheel drive | 316 miles combined | Lower than the RWD figure because configuration and equipment differ. |
| EV9 GT-Line S AWD | All-wheel drive | 313 miles combined | Published UK specification figure. |
| PV5 Essential five-seat | 51.5 kWh | 183 miles | Price-page figure; PV5 data is subject to change pending homologation. |
| PV5 five-seat 71.2 kWh versions | 71.2 kWh; 120 kW peak motor output is stated for the long-range battery | 256 miles | Applies to listed five-seat versions; verify the final trim specification. |
| PV5 seven-seat entries | Battery and final homologation to be confirmed | TBC in the UK price table | Do not assume the five-seat range applies to seven seats. |
WLTP is a standardised laboratory result, not a promise of motorway range with a full family, winter heating and luggage. Kia says EV9 real-world range can be reduced by driving style, speed, outside temperature, topography and electricity-consuming equipment. The same practical caution applies to any electric vehicle: cold weather, high speed, roof loads and repeated short trips can move consumption away from the test cycle.
Kia says the EV9’s 800-volt system can recover up to 154 miles of range in 15 minutes. That is a manufacturer claim under suitable charging conditions, not a guaranteed result at every public charger. Connector availability, battery temperature, charger power and the vehicle’s state of charge all affect the session.
For the PV5 Passenger, Kia states 10–80% charging in 30 minutes for the 71.2 kWh long-range battery. Confirm whether the charger at your regular stop can provide the required power and whether the exact vehicle has the same final specification. A home wallbox, overnight tariff and the distance to your dependable rapid chargers often matter more than a headline charging time.
Towing and carrying heavier loads
The EV9 is the only vehicle here with a published UK towing range in the reviewed specifications. Kia lists a maximum braked trailer weight of 900 kg for RWD and up to 2,500 kg for AWD. Those limits are maximums, not targets: the trailer’s loaded mass, nose weight, passengers and luggage must all comply with the vehicle’s legal and technical limits.

No PV5 Passenger towing value was established on the reviewed Kia UK page. Do not infer one from the vehicle’s body size or from another market. If towing is essential, ask Kia or the dealer for the exact UK type-approved limit for the chosen battery, seats and model year before paying a deposit.
UK prices: what can and cannot be compared
Kia UK’s listed PV5 five-seat on-the-road prices run from £33,195 to £41,175. The table below reproduces the five-seat entries and the separate seven-seat lines shown on that page.
| PV5 Passenger listing | Battery or powertrain detail shown | Seats | OTR price | Listed range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 51.5 kWh | Five | £33,195 | 183 miles |
| Essential | 71.2 kWh | Five | £36,195 | 256 miles |
| Plus HP | 71.2 kWh | Five | £39,475 | 256 miles |
| Elite HP | 71.2 kWh | Five | £41,175 | 256 miles |
| Seven-seat entry | Final specification to confirm | Seven | £36,995 | TBC |
| Seven-seat entry | Final specification to confirm | Seven | £40,275 | TBC |
| Seven-seat entry | Final specification to confirm | Seven | £41,975 | TBC |
Kia also displays grant-adjusted figures in a separate column. Those are not interchangeable with the OTR prices and depend on eligibility and current rules. A comparable current UK EV9 price was not established in the reviewed material, so there is no defensible EV9-versus-PV5 price gap here. Check both live price lists on the same date, with the same seat count, battery, options, registration costs and any available grant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Kia is better for different family situations?
Family of five that takes long motorway trips
The EV9 is the stronger starting point because its listed range extends well beyond the PV5 five-seat figures and its SUV offers a larger reserve for long-distance travel. Choose the exact drivetrain after considering whether AWD, extra equipment or towing matters more than maximum range.
Family of seven using all seats every day
Both models have seven-seat listings, but they present different risks. The EV9 has published seven-seat luggage capacities and trim-specific WLTP figures. The PV5’s seven-seat prices are listed while its range remains TBC, so obtain final technical data before deciding whether its cabin-access benefits outweigh that uncertainty.

School-run family in tight urban parking
The PV5’s sliding doors and low step are likely to be more convenient for repeated child-seat loading. Test the turning circle, parking sensors, camera view and tailgate clearance in the places you actually use; access advantages do not remove the need to fit the vehicle into your garage or bay.
Family towing a caravan or trailer
Start with the EV9 AWD because Kia publishes a braked limit up to 2,500 kg. Match the limit to the loaded trailer and verify the exact vehicle’s plate and documentation. Do not select a PV5 for towing until a UK-approved figure is confirmed.
Family carrying wheelchairs, buggies or bulky equipment
The PV5’s boxier cabin, wide side openings and stated load volume may make daily handling easier, especially if equipment must be loaded while a passenger remains seated. Bring the actual equipment to a demonstration vehicle and check ramps, turning space and tie-down points rather than relying on litre figures.

Showroom checklist before you order
- Confirm the exact build. Write down model year, battery, drivetrain, wheel size, seat count and trim. Range and equipment can change with any of these.
- Install your own restraints. Fit every rear-facing seat, forward-facing seat and booster you use. Check buckle access, door clearance and third-row passage.
- Load the real luggage. Bring the buggy, weekly-shop crates, school bags, sports kit and charging cables. Test the configuration used on a normal holiday.
- Test access in a confined space. Open the PV5 sliding doors or EV9 hinged doors beside another car and check whether an adult can stand safely while fastening a child.
- Drive the route that matters. Include motorway speed, hills and the roads used for school or work. Ask how temperature and roof loads affect the vehicle’s consumption.
- Verify charging. Check the car’s maximum charging rate, your home electrical supply, cable arrangements and the public chargers on regular long trips.
- Check towing paperwork. If relevant, obtain the exact braked and unbraked limits, nose-weight limit and any restrictions for the selected trim.
- Recheck the commercial terms. Confirm OTR price, grant eligibility, warranty conditions, delivery timing and what equipment is standard rather than optional.
Warranty and specification cautions
Kia states an eight-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty for the PV5 and says it guarantees at least 70% of original capacity within that coverage, subject to the full warranty conditions. Obtain the written terms for the vehicle supplied, including exclusions, servicing requirements and how capacity is measured.
The PV5 product and price pages warn that technical and range data are expected targets pending further development and homologation, that figures may change and that specifications can vary by market. UK buyers should therefore treat the listed seven-seat range and any unfinalised equipment as provisional until the order document identifies them.
The EV9 figures are also configuration-specific. A published WLTP number does not establish independent motorway performance, charging-queue times or comfort with a full load. Those questions require a test drive and a route-specific charging plan.
Verdict: EV9 for range and towing, PV5 for access and flexibility
The Kia EV9 is the more suitable family vehicle when you need the longest published range, a documented three-row SUV layout, six- or seven-seat flexibility or serious braked towing, particularly in AWD form. The Kia PV5 Passenger is the more practical answer when sliding-door access, a low step and a tall, reconfigurable cabin will improve every school run and loading task.
Make the decision from your routine rather than the biggest number in a brochure. Count the passengers who travel together, load the seats you will actually occupy, check charging on your longest journey and confirm the final UK specification. That process will reveal whether your family needs an electric SUV with greater range and towing authority or a people mover designed around effortless access.
