Kia’s EV5 WKNDR is an outdoor-focused concept, not a confirmed production model. Kia China reported it at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which opened November 21, 2025; Kia Corporation published its global announcement on December 5, 2025. The concept pairs rugged styling with camping-oriented cabin ideas, but Kia has not announced a production date or confirmed that its showcased features will reach a retail EV5.
What is the Kia EV5 WKNDR?
The EV5 WKNDR—also called the EV5 Weekender in Kia China materials—is a concept based on Kia’s EV5 and created entirely by Kia Design China, according to Kia. The global announcement presents it as an exploration of how a vehicle might bridge city driving and outdoor trips, under the company’s “Opposites United” design philosophy.

Kia’s December 5 announcement framed the idea with the question, “What if a car could help you escape?” The company described its aim as “offering modern explorers the freedom to transition seamlessly from city to nature.” Those are Kia’s design intentions, not claims about independently verified capability. When and where did it debut?
Kia China reported the concept at the 23rd Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, which opened on November 21, 2025. Kia Corporation’s global release came later, on December 5, 2025; the two dates refer to separate announcements. Kia China’s Guangzhou Auto Show announcement

What does the EV5 WKNDR concept show?
Rugged exterior details
Kia’s concept description gives the EV5 a more adventure-oriented appearance with increased ground clearance, extended wheel arches, protective body cladding and all-terrain tires. Kia China specifies 20-inch all-terrain tires for the show vehicle. Other displayed ideas include retractable front and rear tow hooks, a panoramic-roof rack, a side-window pegboard for tools and a hood board with a built-in action camera. These are design details for the concept; they do not establish tested off-road capability or confirm production fitment.
A flexible cabin and cargo area
Kia presents the interior as a flexible basecamp. Its global announcement lists a sliding display, a rotatable armrest with a walkie-talkie cradle, an anti-insect camping lamp, and modular seats designed to ventilate, rotate and fold. A detachable jump seat, flexible trunk rail and trunk cover that doubles as a table extend the concept’s emphasis on adaptable use. Kia China also describes a removable camping light, a monocular integrated into a door armrest, a walkie-talkie in the center armrest, detachable and foldable seats, and a removable cargo-floor panel that can serve as a portable table.

Trailer and route-planning ideas
Kia’s global release also imagines a customizable trailer as a mobile basecamp, with scenarios for an outdoor kitchen, a climbing expedition and stargazing. Kia China describes an exploratory “One-click Adventure” function: a driver could select a preset camping or hiking route, then receive planned charging stops, an estimated battery level on arrival and suggested scenic stops. These are proposed concept experiences, not confirmed functions for a production EV5.

Kia’s reviewed announcements describe a concept and its design direction; they do not confirm a production version, retail launch date or production specification sheet. They also do not establish that the concept’s accessories or features—including the action camera, trailer, retractable tow hooks, camping lamp or route-planning idea—will be offered on a production EV5. This absence of a commitment in these announcements is not proof that Kia will never produce a related vehicle.
