How much does the Kia EV4 GT cost in the UK?
Kia UK’s price guide, accessed on 3 October 2026, lists the EV4 GT hatchback at £49,345 on the road. Kia labels the specification data preliminary and subject to change. Auto Express reported that the Kia is nearly £2,500 dearer than the Golf R. Volkswagen UK’s current model page gives Golf R specifications but not a comparable live OTR price in the material available for this comparison; Volkswagen also warns that prices can change. For a purchase decision, ask a Volkswagen retailer for a current OTR quote and compare it with Kia’s OTR figure on the same date and basis. Which car is quicker?
On the manufacturers’ and publication’s quoted figures, the Golf R has the acceleration advantage: Volkswagen UK quotes 0–62 mph in 4.6 seconds, while Auto Express reports 5.6 seconds for the EV4 GT. These are published specifications, not results from a head-to-head test.

The EV4 GT is an 81.4 kWh battery-electric AWD hatchback. Auto Express reports 468 Nm of maximum torque. Volkswagen lists the Golf R at 245 kW (333 hp). The power and acceleration figures come from different sources and are not a substitute for comparable instrumented testing. What does the EV4 GT add as a performance model?
Auto Express describes the GT’s all-wheel-drive system as front-biased and reports launch control, adaptive dampers tuned for the GT, 20-inch wheels and high-performance tyres. Kia Germany’s official EV4 GT page separately lists adaptive chassis technology and 20-inch Michelin performance tyres. Kia also equips the GT with Virtual Gear Shift and Active Sound Design. The system simulates gear changes using sound and throttle mapping; it is a feature intended to give an electric powertrain a more gear-like interface, not a conventional multi-ratio gearbox. What range does the EV4 GT offer?
Kia UK’s price guide lists the 81.4 kWh EV4 GT at up to 313 miles WLTP. Kia France lists up to 501 km WLTP for its 81.4 kWh AWD GT hatchback; the figures are consistent after converting kilometres to miles, but they come from separate market pages. The Golf R is a petrol car, so its practical distance between stops depends on fuel consumption, tank capacity and driving conditions rather than an electric WLTP range figure. The sources cited here do not establish a directly comparable real-world running-cost or distance comparison between the two cars.
How quickly can the EV4 GT charge?
Kia France says the EV4 GT can charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. That is a manufacturer-stated charging time, not a guaranteed result: Kia says maximum charging speed requires a 400-volt DC charger rated at least 150 kW. Kia Germany gives the same minimum charger rating and notes that charging depends on factors such as battery state and temperature, the charging station and weather. For ownership, the key practical distinction is whether you can charge where the car is parked. Kia’s French information discusses home and public charging, but public-network counts differ between its France and Germany pages, so a single Europe-wide total should not be treated as settled. Check local coverage and tariffs for the places you actually drive.

- Like-for-like price: compare current UK OTR quotes for both cars, on the same date. Do not set a list price against a finance payment or a grant-adjusted figure.
- Performance priorities: the quoted 0–62 mph figure favours the Golf R; the EV4 GT combines its published acceleration figure with an electric AWD powertrain and GT-specific equipment.
- Daily energy use: consider access to home or dependable public charging, plus the driving you do, rather than relying on a WLTP range figure alone.
- Equipment and ownership terms: confirm the UK specification, warranty terms and delivery timing with Kia. The warranty language on Kia France’s page is territory-specific and should not be assumed to apply in the UK.
Auto Express reported that the EV4 GT was available to order and forecast deliveries before the end of 2026. That was a forecast in its 1 October 2026 report, not a confirmed delivery schedule; check with a Kia retailer for current availability. Auto Express report
