A 1982 Isuzu I-Mark diesel sedan is an unusual junkyard discovery: the compact North American Isuzu offered a diesel option, but the available feature excerpt says it found few takers. Its diesel engine is identified in secondary specifications as a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter four-cylinder, paired in the listed Deluxe sedan configuration with a five-speed manual. No reliable production or sales count establishes just how few were built or sold.
What car does “I-Mark” refer to?
The I-Mark was Isuzu’s North American name for a car related to the Isuzu Gemini. A historical overview of the Gemini says the I-Mark name replaced the Buick Opel for the 1981 model year; unlike the preceding badge, the Isuzu also offered a diesel engine. This is the rear-wheel-drive-era I-Mark, not the later front-wheel-drive generation that reused the name.
The range included sedan and coupe bodies. Deluxe was offered before the 1982 model year, when an LS trim was added. Those range-wide details do not establish that every body and trim was available with the diesel engine.
What engine and transmission did the diesel sedan have?
Automobile-Catalog’s 1982 I-Mark Deluxe Diesel Sedan listing identifies an Isuzu 4FB1 four-cylinder diesel with 1,817 cc displacement. The listing gives 38 kW, or 51 hp SAE net, at 5,000 rpm, and 98 Nm (72 lb-ft) of torque. Its publication year is not stated, and these are secondary database specifications rather than figures verified against a factory service manual.

The same specific Deluxe diesel sedan entry lists a five-speed manual transmission. The broader I-Mark model overview also identifies five-speed manual and three-speed automatic transmissions in the range, but that does not show that an automatic was offered with this diesel sedan. Treat the five-speed as the configuration documented by the Deluxe diesel listing, not as a confirmed specification for every diesel body or trim.
The matching feature’s indexed excerpt describes the diesel offered from 1981 through 1984 as naturally aspirated and 1.8 liters; the excerpt does not establish the feature’s publication year. The California Air Resources Board’s aftermarket-device application summary also includes a 1982 Isuzu I-Mark 1.8-liter application. That regulator listing corroborates the model-year and displacement context, but it is not a factory engine specification sheet.

The matching Yahoo Autos feature’s indexed excerpt characterizes the diesel option as one that found few takers. That supports calling this sedan an unusual find, but it does not establish a production or sales total. No reliable published count for 1982 I-Mark diesel sedans is available here, so a precise rarity ranking—or a claim about how many were built—would go beyond the evidence.

A specialist bookseller lists a 1982 I-Mark sedan shop service repair manual covering four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. The listing makes it a potentially useful model-specific reference, but does not establish current stock, authenticity, or equal coverage of every engine configuration.
