The event went ahead later that year, but its format and sprint course changed across subsequent editions. The latest edition located in available sources was held in May 2025; a 2026 event is not confirmed.
What did Joondalup Council approve in February 2022?
Council approved $350,000 in sponsorship for a planned two-day motoring festival in Joondalup’s city centre, according to PerthNow’s 24 February 2022 report. The proposal included a street sprint, vehicle displays and themed precincts. It was broader than a standalone race: the planned festival was intended to bring competition and public motoring activities into the city centre.

A council report cited by PerthNow forecast a $1 million injection into the local economy. That figure was an expectation attached to the proposal, not a later measured result. Mayor Albert Jacob said at the time: “But the action won’t just be on the track, the COVID-safe event will have plenty of family friendly fun on offer and we expect the flow-on effect for local businesses to be strong.” His comment referred to the planned 2022 event.
What was delivered at the inaugural 2022 festival?
The inaugural Festival of Motoring ran from 28 to 30 October 2022 as a three-day program, rather than the two-day format described in the approval coverage. The City of Joondalup’s post-event report and sprint regulations describe a mix of the City Sprint, display precincts and other activities across the Joondalup CBD and education precincts. The sprint was governed by motorsport regulations, while the wider event served spectators and vehicle enthusiasts.

Why was the 2023 event postponed?
The event planned for November 2023 was cancelled because of the Mariginiup bushfires, the City of Joondalup later said. A redesigned two-day festival was held on 4–5 May 2024. In its August 2024 council material, the City reported more than 20,000 attendees, over 1,200 display cars and 127 sprint competitors for that edition.
The City’s 2024 reporting described a 2.2 km sprint course. That distance applies to the 2024 edition; it should not be taken as a permanent specification for later events.
What happened at the 2025 Joondalup Festival of Motoring?
The City advertised the next edition for 3–4 May 2025 as a free two-day festival, with more than 1,000 vehicles, food vendors and entertainment. Its April 2025 event notice positioned the event as a public festival as well as a motorsport attraction.
The 2025 sprint had its own rules and route: organisers described a 1.8 km closed street track, a maximum of 120 entries and a requirement for competitors to hold a Motorsport Australia Speed licence or higher. MTA WA also reported the 1.8 km closed-track distance after the event. These were 2025-specific details, not rules or course specifications established for every edition.
