Its reclined rider position, 200 W electric assist, carbon foils, and tri-hull platform are designed to lift the main hull above calm water at roughly 5 knots.
The JetCycle E-JetCycle is not an e-bike that happens to float. It is a compact, pedal-assisted hydrofoil watercraft: the rider reclines in a kayak-like cockpit, pedals through an electric-assist system, and uses submerged carbon foils to lift the main hull clear of the water.
Its defining feature is a trimaran layout. A central cockpit sits between two side floats, giving the E-JetCycle more stability while boarding, disembarking, and getting onto the foils than JetCycle’s earlier single-hull JetCycle Max. Once it reaches roughly 5 knots, the foils generate enough lift for the hull to rise above the surface.
That makes the E-JetCycle a premium recreational watercraft built around quiet exploration, exercise, and the novelty of hydrofoiling—not a high-speed replacement for a jet ski or a practical bicycle for land use.

What is the JetCycle E-JetCycle?
The E-JetCycle is a single-seat, recumbent pedal boat with electric assistance. The rider sits low in a reclined position, turns a pedal crank, and receives proportional help from a 200-watt electric motor. Steering is handled with a steering control, while a separate incidence control helps manage the craft’s pitch or flight attitude.
In ordinary operation, the craft starts on the water like a small displacement boat. As speed builds, the underwater foils create lift. At approximately 5 knots, the central hull rises above the water, leaving the foils as the principal points of contact with the surface. The craft is still supported by wings moving through the water; it is not flying freely through the air.
With less of the hull dragging through the water, the E-JetCycle can glide more efficiently and deliver the distinctive smooth, elevated sensation associated with hydrofoiling. The manufacturer positions it for lakes, lagoons, and calm sea conditions.
Why the tri-hull design matters
The E-JetCycle’s central hull is flanked by two side floats. Those floats are connected to the cockpit by structural arms, creating a broad platform around the rider.
- More stability at rest: The side floats make boarding and disembarking less demanding than on a narrow single-hull foil craft.
- More accessible takeoff: Electric pedal assistance reduces the physical effort needed to reach foiling speed.
- A practical water platform: The side structures can be used to enter or leave the water, making short foil rides and swimming stops part of the intended experience.
- A larger footprint: The same width that helps stability creates more demanding transport, storage, launching, and dock-access requirements.
This is the important distinction between the E-JetCycle and the earlier JetCycle Max. The Max is a narrower, entirely human-powered single-hull craft. The E-JetCycle adds electric assistance and a trimaran platform to make the experience less dependent on balance and peak rider effort.

How the E-JetCycle gets onto its foils
- Board in the water: The rider uses a suitable dock or pontoon-style launch and settles into the recumbent cockpit.
- Start pedaling: The craft initially moves through the water in conventional surface mode while the electric system adds proportional assistance.
- Build speed: At about 5 knots, the foils are generating enough lift to begin raising the hull.
- Control the attitude: The rider steers with the handle and adjusts the craft’s pitch or incidence with the flight control.
- Foil above the surface: The hull lifts clear while the underwater foils remain submerged and support the craft.
Hydrofoiling is sensitive to speed, weight distribution, control inputs, and water conditions. The E-JetCycle’s extra floats should make the platform more forgiving than the JetCycle Max, but “more stable” does not mean stable in every situation or suitable for every rider without instruction.
E-JetCycle versus JetCycle Max
| Model | Propulsion | Published weight and width | Position in the range |
|---|---|---|---|
| E-JetCycle | Pedal system with 200 W electric assistance | 55 kg; 2.30 m wide | More stable and less physically demanding; trimaran configuration |
| JetCycle Max | 100% human-powered | 35 kg; 0.80 m wide | Narrower, lighter, and more dependent on rider fitness and balance |
JetCycle lists the JetCycle Max at €9,990 excluding tax and the E-JetCycle at €19,990 on its respective product pages. Those prices should be treated as indicative manufacturer-listed prices: taxes, shipping, availability, configuration, and service arrangements can change.
The Max’s physical demands help explain the E-JetCycle’s design. JetCycle’s guidance for the human-powered model indicates that a rider may need around 230 watts at 60 kg or 300 watts at 85 kg to take off. The E-JetCycle’s motor assistance is therefore central to its accessibility pitch, rather than a minor convenience feature.
Where can you use it?
The E-JetCycle is best suited to calm, open water with a clear path for its foils. JetCycle’s published operating guidance for the Max recommends inland or calm water such as a lake and says sea use is possible under appropriate conditions.
The same guidance identifies several practical requirements:
- Water should be calm enough for the rider to control the craft safely.
- The surface should be free of weeds and other material that could foul the propeller or foils.
- The craft needs sufficient depth for the submerged hardware.
- A pontoon or dock-style launch is preferred over launching directly from a sandy beach.
- Weather and surface conditions must be assessed before riding.
The E-JetCycle data sheet lists a 75 cm draft, but that number should not be treated as a universal minimum operating depth. Draft describes the craft’s immersion in a particular condition; the foils extend below the hull and need additional clearance, especially during takeoff, turning, and changes in pitch. Follow the current E-JetCycle manual, the manufacturer’s instructions, and local boating requirements rather than converting the draft figure into a blanket depth rule.

Is the E-JetCycle fast?
Its listed top speed is approximately 10 knots, or 20 km/h. That is quick enough to create the hydrofoil effect, but it is not jet-ski performance.
The E-JetCycle’s appeal is its unusual combination of a reclined riding position, pedal exercise, electric assistance, low operating noise, and a hull that rises above the surface. JetCycle describes the craft as quiet and emission-free during operation because it uses electric assistance rather than a combustion engine. That claim refers to operation; it should not be expanded into a lifecycle environmental comparison with kayaks, electric boats, or personal watercraft without additional evidence.
Safety and rider limitations
This is a watercraft, not a land bicycle. Anyone operating one should wear a properly fitted USCG-approved life jacket or other wearable personal flotation device suitable for recreational boating, and should follow local regulations and JetCycle’s instructions. The U.S. Coast Guard requires recreational vessels to carry an approved wearable PFD for each person aboard and recommends wearing one while underway. Check the product label, size, condition, and fit; do not assume that every inflatable or generic flotation device is appropriate for hydrofoil use.
JetCycle’s published rider guidance for the Max recommends a height of approximately 1.5 to 2 m and a weight of 40 to 100 kg. It also does not recommend use before age 14 because of the craft’s size, weight, and autonomy. Those figures are documented for the Max and should not automatically be treated as the definitive E-JetCycle limits. Prospective buyers should obtain the current E-JetCycle requirements directly from JetCycle.
New riders should also account for:
- Learning to launch, take off, steer, and recover from a loss of foiling speed.
- Keeping clear of shallow water, weeds, swimmers, submerged obstacles, and other vessels.
- Checking weather, wind, visibility, and local navigation rules.
- Using a riding area where a fall or unplanned return to surface mode can be managed safely.
Ownership is closer to owning a small boat than an e-bike
At 3.40 m long, 2.30 m wide, and 55 kg, the E-JetCycle is too large and specialized to treat like a bicycle that can simply be carried to the water. The published dimensions imply a need to plan for:
- Storage with enough width for the 2.30 m trimaran platform.
- A suitable method of moving a 55 kg craft from storage to the launch point.
- A dock, pontoon, or other launch arrangement compatible with the floats and foils.
- Battery charging and protection from inappropriate storage conditions.
- Inspection and care of the carbon foils, propeller, control system, and structure.
For a U.S. buyer, the purchase conversation should also cover delivery, import treatment, local registration or boating rules, insurance, spare parts, servicing, and the availability of technical support. The product is presented through a direct manufacturer contact or quote workflow rather than ordinary mass-market retail.

Who is the E-JetCycle for?
The clearest buyers are enthusiasts who specifically want the hydrofoil experience and are willing to manage the logistics of a premium watercraft. It may also suit yacht owners, resorts, and professional rental operators looking for a distinctive low-noise water activity.
It is a weaker fit for someone seeking speed, long-distance range, easy beach launching, substantial cargo capacity, or a cheap way to exercise on the water. The €19,990 listed price—before any applicable tax, delivery, and ownership costs—makes it an experiential purchase rather than a practical replacement for a kayak, paddleboard, bicycle, or small electric boat.

A demonstration or rental is a sensible first step. The craft is expensive, wide, specialized, and difficult to evaluate from photographs alone. JetCycle has promoted rental use and identifies professional rental operators as an audience, including rental-related activity connected with Lake Annecy. That does not establish that a particular operator or location is currently open, however.
Before traveling, confirm directly with the operator:
- Current availability and operating dates.
- Price, duration, and whether instruction is included.
- Minimum age, height, and weight requirements.
- Required clothing and flotation equipment.
- Weather cancellation and water-condition policies.
For buyers who cannot find a current demonstration, a direct conversation with JetCycle is the next best route. Ask for the latest E-JetCycle manual, delivery terms, service arrangements, and confirmed operating limitations for your region.
The verdict
The JetCycle E-JetCycle is best understood as a premium, pedal-assisted hydrofoil boat with a recumbent cockpit—not as a conventional electric bicycle. Its tri-hull layout addresses the two biggest barriers to the earlier JetCycle Max: balance and the effort required to reach takeoff speed. The trade-off is a much wider and heavier craft that demands proper water access, storage, transport, and safety planning.
