That does not mean older Wagoneers have been renamed: vehicles sold under the Wagoneer name remain Wagoneers. Jeep’s current lineup instead puts the Grand Wagoneer in the role of its current full-size SUV.
Are all Wagoneers Grand Wagoneers now?
No. Jeep’s current Wagoneer page says the Wagoneer is no longer in production and directs shoppers to the 2026 Grand Wagoneer. Existing Wagoneers have not been retroactively renamed; their original model names remain unchanged.
For someone shopping new, Jeep presents the 2026 Grand Wagoneer as the current vehicle. For someone shopping for the discontinued Wagoneer, Jeep suggests contacting local dealers or looking at certified pre-owned inventory.
What changed for the 2026 model?
Jeep announced on August 7, 2025, that the 2026 Grand Wagoneer would arrive refreshed and “proudly wearing the Jeep Brand badge.” The announcement confirms the refreshed model-year presentation and Jeep branding; it does not state why Jeep ended production of the separate Wagoneer model. Jeep describes the Grand Wagoneer as sharing many technologies, capabilities, and craftsmanship with the Wagoneer, while adding refreshed design and features. Jeep also claims the 2026 Grand Wagoneer has more than 170 standard and available safety and security features. Why were Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer once separate names?
In a September 3, 2020 announcement, Stellantis described Wagoneer as a premium extension of the Jeep brand that would become a portfolio of vehicles. At the time, Christian Meunier, then Global President of the Jeep brand at FCA, said Wagoneer’s return would let Jeep “expand to a much more premium arena” with more design detail, safety, and technology. What should used-car shoppers compare?
A used Wagoneer and a new 2026 Grand Wagoneer differ first in model year and vehicle status: one is an older, discontinued model, while the other is Jeep’s current offering. Their prices and equipment depend on the specific vehicle and listing, so compare the details of the examples available to you rather than assuming the names alone settle the difference.
