Jaguar says its forthcoming all-electric luxury four-door GT, the Type 01, will use an all-wheel-drive tri-motor system producing more than 1,000 PS and more than 1,300 Nm of torque. Jaguar’s US announcement translates the power threshold to 986 hp, so “1,000 hp” is a rounded headline—not an exact published production rating. The full reveal is scheduled for New York on 6 October 2026; as of 4 October, final production specifications have not been announced.
What Jaguar has announced about the Type 01 powertrain
Jaguar’s March 2026 engineering announcement specifies an all-wheel-drive, three-motor system with output above 1,000 PS and torque above 1,300 Nm. The company’s February US release described the power threshold as 1,000 PS, or 986 hp, while also using the rounded phrase “more than 1,000 hp.” Those are threshold claims, not a precise final rating. PS and hp are different units; the published 1,000 PS threshold should not be silently rewritten as 1,000 hp.
Jaguar calls the Type 01 its most powerful road car ever made. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently measured comparison. Neither the final production output nor a third-party test result is available in the reviewed announcements.
Jaguar’s 2 February 2026 announcement introduced the prototype’s latest winter-testing phase; its 31 March 2026 engineering release gives the PS and torque thresholds and describes the control systems.

How the three motors and chassis systems are meant to work
Jaguar says the motors are paired with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, with embedded software able to respond in as little as one millisecond. The system is intended to manage torque delivery across the driven wheels. That response time is Jaguar’s description of its software, not an independent measurement of vehicle handling or lap-time performance.
The development car’s announced chassis and calibration features include dynamic air suspension, twin-valve active dampers and all-wheel steering. Jaguar also says it is testing a new 23-inch winter tire. These are details of the prototype program; the company has not yet confirmed that every item will be fitted to every production-market version.
Prototype testing and the ThermAssist claim
Jaguar says its validation program uses 150 prototypes and covers hundreds of thousands of miles across hot desert highways, frozen lakes and virtual environments. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s testing program and have not been independently audited in the cited material.
The February release also describes ThermAssist, an onboard thermal-management system that recovers heat to warm the propulsion system or cabin in cold conditions. Jaguar claims this can reduce heating energy consumption by up to 40 percent. That is a company-reported maximum, not an independently verified result or a stated real-world range increase.

Why the name is Type 01—and when it will be revealed
The new GT is named Jaguar Type 01. Formula E reported the prototype’s Monaco appearance on 16 May 2026 and explained Jaguar’s stated naming logic: “Type” refers to predecessors, “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, and “1” marks the first of a new generation. Its report is available from Formula E.
Jaguar’s official Type 01 page schedules the full reveal in New York for 6 October 2026. The date is forthcoming as of 4 October; the vehicle should not yet be described as a fully revealed production model.

What remains unconfirmed before the reveal
The announcements establish the broad powertrain concept and selected prototype technologies, but they do not supply a complete production specification. Jaguar’s page cautions that specifications can vary by market and change, and that imagery may not reflect final specifications.
- Exact production power and torque ratings, beyond the announced thresholds
- Detailed motor configuration and how output is allocated
- Battery capacity, driving range and the range-test cycle
- Charging performance and conditions
- Price, order dates, delivery timing and regional availability
- Which prototype chassis features will be standard or optional in each market
Jaguar says its engineering brief draws on historic models including the XK120, E-type, XJ Coupé V12, XJS and XJ Series I, with a particular influence from the XJ Coupé. That is the company’s account of its design intent, not an independent assessment of the Type 01’s comfort or driving character.
