Jaguar’s Type 01 is a four-door electric grand tourer with the kind of dramatic proportions that can make “a comic book villain would drive it” feel like a fair first impression. That is a subjective reaction, not an official description: Jaguar calls its design language “Exuberant Modernism.” The production-bound Type 01 is also distinct from Type 00, the design-vision concept Jaguar unveiled in 2024.
What is the Jaguar Type 01?
Jaguar unveiled Type 01 in New York on 7 October 2026. The company describes it as a luxury four-door GT designed, developed and built in the UK, and the first production Jaguar based on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Jaguar cites the E-type and XJS as lineage references. Those connections speak to the car’s intended heritage; they do not make Type 01 a direct update of either model.
The name is a deliberate reset. Jaguar says “Type” connects the car to the marque’s predecessors, “0” represents electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, and “1” marks the first Jaguar of a new era. Managing Director Rawdon Glover described it as a luxury grand tourer for a new era, citing its dramatic design and anticipated driving character.
Why does its design look so provocative?
The villain comparison captures a visual response to Type 01’s theatrical, imposing appearance, but it is an interpretation rather than a measurable design feature or evidence of a universal reaction. Jaguar’s own design language is “Exuberant Modernism.” Its styling emphasizes an elongated bonnet, a low roofline and a sleek silhouette; the company’s model page also lists concealed door handles and a three-stage deployable spoiler.

The proportions are part of the effect: a long front end and low, sweeping profile can make a four-door GT seem more like a dramatic concept car than a conventional luxury saloon. Jaguar lists 23-inch wheels, with a distinctive 21-inch all-season wheel available as an option. The production model’s final features may change before launch.
Type 00 concept versus Type 01 production GT
The names are easy to confuse, but the cars have different roles. Type 00 was a design-vision concept shown at Miami Art Week on 3 December 2024; Type 01 is the later four-door production GT Jaguar unveiled in October 2026.

Type 00’s 2024 range and charging figures are early projections, not Type 01 specifications. For Type 01, Jaguar’s October announcement gives a 400-mile EPA range claim, while the model page lists “up to 450 miles” without the same EPA wording. Keep the source and market context attached to each figure rather than treating them as interchangeable.
What performance and range has Jaguar announced?
Jaguar’s 7 October 2026 announcement says Type 01 has an 850-volt electrical architecture, more than 1,000 PS and a 400-mile EPA range. The company also says 350 kW charging can add 200 miles in 13 minutes. These are manufacturer claims, not independently verified road-test results.

Jaguar’s Type 01 model page lists up to 1,030 PS, up to 3.2 seconds from 0–62 mph and up to 450 miles of range. The page cautions that final customer models and features are not yet available for sale and may vary before launch. Jaguar’s release and model page present different range figures and contexts; neither should be silently substituted for the other.
What is known about the interior?
Wallpaper* reported on 12 August 2026 that Jaguar-released pre-launch imagery showed a four-seat cabin arranged around a longitudinal centre spine. Jaguar chief interior designer Thomas Holden described the spine as an architectural feature intended to create four individual spaces. The report also identified a wide-angle driver display, a slim central touchscreen and a digital rear-view mirror near the base of the windscreen.

Those details come from pre-launch imagery and reporting, not a final customer specification. Jaguar says final models and features may vary before launch.

Jaguar expects orders to open in early 2027 and anticipates first client deliveries in the second half of 2027. Those are forward-looking estimates from the company and could change; the model page says customer models and features are not yet available for sale.
