Short answer: Jaguar’s forthcoming Type 01 electric GT has an announced U.S. starting MSRP of $130,500, an estimated EPA range of up to 400 miles, and expected customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. Tesla says the Model S is no longer in production; its U.S. page advertises up to 410 miles of EPA range for the model line and shows 368 miles for Plaid, but buyers must find a specific used car rather than order a new one.
The two cars are therefore not a normal new-versus-new comparison. Type 01 has a published future price but unconfirmed warranty and delivered-cost details. Model S has established warranty terms and charging information, but availability, price, mileage and remaining coverage depend on the individual pre-owned vehicle.

What the comparison means in the United States
This comparison uses U.S. figures because Jaguar’s announced MSRP and EPA range are U.S.-specific. Regional pricing, taxes, incentives, insurance and availability can differ. Jaguar calls its car Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries anticipated in the second half of 2027.

Tesla’s current U.S. Model S page states that Model S is no longer in production. Tesla says pre-owned non-Signature Edition inventory vehicles may still be available. A meaningful Model S price must therefore come from a dated listing and include model year, mileage, condition, trim, accident history and warranty status.

That timing changes the buying question. A shopper choosing Type 01 is reserving an announced future vehicle. A Model S shopper is selecting from whatever used inventory exists at the time of purchase.
Price and availability
Jaguar Type 01: a published starting MSRP, not a delivered price
Jaguar identifies a $130,500 starting U.S. MSRP for Type 01. The announcement does not establish final option pricing, destination charges, taxes, incentives, financing rates or the amount a buyer will actually pay at delivery. It also does not confirm whether every announced specification will apply to the least expensive configuration.
The planned order window is early 2027, and Jaguar anticipates first client deliveries in the second half of that year. Those are announced plans rather than a vehicle currently available for test drive or immediate purchase.

Tesla’s page does not provide a current transaction price for remaining non-Signature Edition Model S inventory. Any listing should be evaluated as a specific used-car transaction, not as a current Model S MSRP.
Compare the listing’s asking price with its mileage, in-service date, battery and drive-unit coverage, accident or repair history, wheel and tire condition, software configuration and delivery location. A low asking price can reflect an older car or reduced remaining warranty rather than a like-for-like alternative to a new Type 01.
How to make the price comparison fair
- Record the Type 01’s $130,500 starting MSRP and separately estimate destination, taxes, registration, insurance and financing.
- For each Model S candidate, save the listing date, model year, odometer reading, trim, condition, seller and all disclosed fees.
- Subtract only incentives for which you are actually eligible; do not treat a possible incentive as guaranteed savings.
- Compare the total cash needed at delivery and the expected warranty remaining, not just the advertised number.
Range: close headline numbers, different qualifications
Jaguar’s announced Type 01 figures
Jaguar announces up to 400 miles of EPA range for Type 01. The company explicitly describes that number as an estimate ahead of full certification testing, so the final EPA label may differ. Jaguar also cites up to 450 miles under the WLTP test cycle; WLTP is not the EPA figure used for this U.S. comparison and should not be treated as an American range rating.

Type 01 is announced with a usable 118 kWh battery and an 850-volt electrical architecture. Battery capacity alone does not prove greater efficiency or longer real-world range: consumption, software, tires, temperature, speed and vehicle mass all affect miles per charge.

Tesla advertises up to 410 miles of EPA range for the Model S line. On the same page, the displayed specification table lists 368 miles for Model S Plaid. Those figures cannot be used interchangeably. Confirm the exact trim and wheel configuration of the car being considered.
Tesla says actual range varies with vehicle configuration, speed, weather, elevation, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions. A used Model S may also show less usable range than a new-car headline because of age, battery condition, tires or prior use.
What the numbers mean for trips
The announced difference between 400 and 410 miles is small on paper, while the 368-mile Plaid specification is materially lower. Neither headline guarantees a particular highway distance between charging stops. For a frequent long-distance driver, use a conservative trip plan based on the exact car, winter temperatures, highway speed, charger spacing and a reserve for detours.
| Range item | Jaguar Type 01 | Tesla Model S | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. EPA headline | Up to 400 miles | Up to 410 miles for the model line | Jaguar’s figure is an estimate before full certification; Tesla also lists 368 miles for Plaid. |
| Other test-cycle figure | Up to 450 miles WLTP | Not stated on the cited U.S. page | WLTP is not directly comparable with EPA. |
| Battery information | 118 kWh usable; 850 V architecture | Capacity and pack voltage not stated on the cited page | Do not infer efficiency from capacity alone. |
Charging speed and road-trip practicality
Type 01 charging claim
Jaguar says Type 01 can add up to 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes when connected to a 350 kW rapid DC charger. The announcement says charging time varies with battery and charger conditions. The 350 kW figure is the charger and vehicle capability cited by Jaguar; it is not a promise that every public station will deliver that power.

Model S charging claim
Tesla lists a 250 kW maximum Supercharging rate and advertises up to 205 miles added in 15 minutes. Tesla says its added-range figure is based on constant-speed data and that real charging performance changes with charger, configuration, state of charge, battery temperature, speed, weather and elevation.

Why the two claims are not a laboratory comparison
Jaguar’s “200 miles in 13 minutes” and Tesla’s “205 miles in 15 minutes” use different vehicles, test assumptions and range calculations. Peak power is not sustained power: a battery normally tapers its charging rate as it fills, and the starting state of charge changes the result. A higher-rated charger also cannot overcome a vehicle, site or battery limit.
| Charging measure | Jaguar Type 01 | Tesla Model S |
|---|---|---|
| Peak DC capability cited | 350 kW rapid DC | 250 kW maximum Supercharging |
| Advertised added range | Up to 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes | Up to 205 miles in 15 minutes |
| Important limits | Manufacturer estimate; battery and charger conditions affect time | Manufacturer figure based on constant-speed data; many operating factors affect results |
Performance and driving character
Jaguar Type 01
Jaguar announces a tri-motor layout, up to 1,030 PS, 1,365 Nm of torque and 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Jaguar describes the car as a four-door GT intended to combine performance and comfort. Its vehicle engineering director, Matt Becker, says the design goal is to deliver those two characters in harmony.
Tesla Model S Plaid
Tesla lists Model S Plaid at 1,020 hp and 0–60 mph in 1.99 seconds with rollout subtracted. The acceleration metric is 0–60 mph, while Jaguar quotes 0–62 mph. Power units also differ: PS and hp are not identical units. These are manufacturer claims measured under different conventions, so they do not establish a controlled winner.

Type 01’s final ride, handling, seating and cabin specifications remain to be confirmed in production form.
Ownership, warranty and maintenance information
What is established for Model S
Tesla lists a basic vehicle warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Its battery and drive-unit warranty is eight years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. For a used car, remaining coverage depends on its in-service date, mileage, configuration and the applicable warranty terms. Ask Tesla to confirm coverage for the vehicle identification number before purchase.
Tesla promotes home charging and route planning through its Trip Planner, which directs drivers to Superchargers on longer journeys. A used-car buyer should verify that the car can access the intended charging network and that any adapter or connector requirements are understood.

What remains unknown for Type 01
The reviewed Jaguar announcement does not state Type 01 vehicle or battery warranty duration, routine service intervals, scheduled maintenance costs, insurance costs or roadside-assistance terms. Do not import warranty language from another Jaguar model. Those details should be obtained in writing before placing an order.
The announcement also does not establish Type 01 residential charging equipment, connector details or installation requirements. Until Jaguar publishes them, a buyer cannot responsibly assume that a particular home charger or electrical setup is compatible.
Which car is cheaper to own?
There is no defensible universal winner from the published information. Type 01’s future warranty, service schedule, insurance rating and delivered price are not established. Model S ownership costs vary sharply with the used purchase price, remaining warranty, mileage, tires, repairs, insurance and battery condition.
Build a five-year estimate using the exact vehicle rather than a model-level slogan:
- Purchase or finance cost, destination fees, tax and registration.
- Insurance quotes for the driver, address, coverage limits and vehicle identification number.
- Home electricity cost, public charging rates and expected annual miles.
- Tires, alignment, brakes, windshield and other wear items.
- Scheduled and unscheduled service, including any out-of-warranty battery or drive-unit work.
- Expected resale value and the warranty remaining when you sell.
Home charging and daily use
Checks for any buyer
A Level 2 home charger can make an electric GT practical for daily driving, but the charger is only one part of the installation. Before signing a contract, confirm the vehicle connector, parking location, cable reach, electrical-panel capacity, service upgrade needs, permitting, utility rate and installation quote.
Tesla explicitly describes home charging as part of Model S ownership. Type 01-specific home-charging details were not established in the announcement, so wait for Jaguar’s technical guidance before buying equipment for that car.

When public charging matters more
Drivers without a dedicated parking space should map reliable public charging near home, work and regular destinations. A car with a larger battery or higher peak charging rate does not solve an unreliable local network. Check opening hours, payment method, stall power sharing, accessibility and backup locations.
Design, technology and evidence limits
Jaguar says 360 patent applications are associated with Type 01. That is Jaguar’s count of applications, not an independent assessment of technical superiority or a guarantee that every application becomes a production feature.
Jaguar also cites an internal CAVA analysis of 920,000 JLR vehicles across 51 markets from October 2023 to October 2024, concluding that 99.7% of customer journeys could be completed without interruption. This is manufacturer analysis, not an independent Type 01 owner survey. It should not be read as a promise that every driver’s trips will be interruption-free.
Neither the announced Type 01 material nor the cited Model S page supplies independent road-test range, comparative insurance quotes, total-cost-of-ownership results or service-network experience. Those are precisely the areas where an individual buyer’s circumstances can outweigh the headline specifications.

Decision guide: which situation fits which car?
Choose the Type 01 path if you can wait
- You want a new luxury electric GT rather than a used vehicle.
- You can wait until the planned 2027 order and delivery timetable.
- You accept that EPA range, warranty, options and delivered price still need final confirmation.
- You are prepared to obtain Jaguar’s charging and service details before committing.
Choose the Model S path if immediate availability matters
- You need a car before Type 01 deliveries begin.
- You are comfortable inspecting and pricing a particular used Model S.
- You value published Tesla warranty categories and an established Supercharger route-planning ecosystem.
- You can verify remaining coverage, battery condition, history and local service access.
Pause the decision if the economics are still unclear
Do not treat Type 01’s MSRP as its final on-road price or Tesla’s range headline as the specification of every used Model S. Wait for a written Jaguar quote and warranty terms, or collect a complete Tesla vehicle history and inspection report. The comparison becomes meaningful only after both choices are represented by real, dated transactions.
Quick Recap
Buyer checklist before placing an order or buying used
- Confirm the exact market: verify U.S. MSRP, EPA label, taxes, incentives and registration in your state.
- Check timing: ask Jaguar whether the order window and delivery estimate have changed; check Tesla inventory on the day you shop.
- Get written warranty terms: Type 01 coverage is not stated in the announcement; Model S coverage depends on the individual car.
- Validate charging: inspect your electrical service, confirm connector and installation requirements, and identify dependable public alternatives.
- Match range to your routine: use the exact trim, wheels, weather, highway speed and reserve you expect rather than the highest headline.
- Price ownership: obtain insurance quotes and budget electricity, tires, service, repairs and resale.
- Inspect a used Model S: review accident history, battery behavior, charging performance, tires, suspension, brakes, software and title status.
- Recheck the facts immediately before purchase: Type 01 specifications and Tesla inventory can change.
