The Jaguar Type 01 is a four-seat electric grand tourer and the first production model in Jaguar’s relaunch. Reveal coverage reports roughly 1,015 horsepower, a tri-motor setup and a claimed range above 400 miles, but the range and several specifications remain unconfirmed or inconsistent across reports. It is a dramatic, large 2+2 aimed at luxury-EV buyers—not yet a production car with independently verified performance or range.
What is the Jaguar Type 01?
The Type 01—pronounced “Type Zero One,” not “Type Oh One”—is Jaguar’s first production vehicle in its relaunch. It is built on Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA), which Road & Track reports is separate from Land Rover’s current and future efforts. Two more JEA vehicles are planned, but their identities have not been announced. Road & Track’s October 6, 2026 reveal report and Edmunds’ October 6, 2026 first look describe the Type 01 at reveal stage; the figures below are outlet-reported rather than a substitute for final Jaguar specifications.
How powerful is it, and how fast is it claimed to be?
Road & Track reports a tri-motor configuration with 1,015 hp and 1,007 lb-ft of torque. Edmunds reports 1,016 hp and a claimed 0–62 mph time of 3.2 seconds; Road & Track describes 0–60 mph as being in the three-second range. The one-horsepower difference is a discrepancy between reports, not evidence of two different trims. These are reveal-stage figures, not independently tested production-car results.
What are the battery and range figures?
The reports do not agree on battery capacity, and a final certified range was not established in the coverage. Road & Track reports 120 kWh usable and says the more-than-400-mile estimate uses the EPA five-cycle test but is pending certification. Edmunds reports a 118-kWh battery and says official range figures had not yet been released. Its own range projection is an estimate, not Jaguar certification. Treat the capacity and range as provisional until Jaguar publishes final specifications and the EPA figure is confirmed.

How does Type 01 charging work?
Road & Track reports an 850-volt architecture, a North American NACS fast-charging port, a J1772 AC port and AC charging support up to 22 kW. Jaguar’s claim, as reported by both outlets, is that the car can add up to 200 miles in 13 minutes. That is a manufacturer-reported claim, not a charging result verified in a production-car test; actual charging time and miles added depend on conditions and the final vehicle.
Edmunds also notes a potential practical wrinkle: the charging-port position may make some Supercharger stalls with short cables difficult to reach. If considering the car, check cable reach and stall layout rather than assuming every connector-compatible station will be convenient to use.

What does the design and cabin prioritize?
Large, low, and deliberately dramatic
Road & Track reports a length of 206.1 inches—2.7 inches shorter than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class—and a roof four inches lower. The exterior has a long hood, angular surfaces, creases that converge at the rear pillars, active lower-front air shutters instead of a conventional grille, and a fastback rear with no rear window. Jaguar calls the deep fender-to-roof transition the “impossible panel”; Road & Track reports it is formed in six stamping steps on a 2,500-ton press. Design chief Andrew Wheel called the car “the truest expression of Jaguar, in the context of today,” as quoted by Road & Track.
A four-seat grand tourer, not a family sedan
The cabin is configured as a 2+2. Road & Track reports a 24-inch instrument display, a 7-inch center-control screen, a digital rear-view display, a 25-speaker audio system and three initial interior color themes. The publication reports up to 35 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Edmunds describes a long hood and no front trunk, while the sloping rear roofline affects trunk capacity.

These are journalists’ observations, not standardized measurements. Because the car has no rear window, the digital rear-view display also has a functional role, not merely a novelty.
What are the expected price and arrival date?
Road & Track reports an expected starting point around $130,500, while Edmunds puts it at about $130,000. Neither is a final published MSRP. Road & Track reports that pre-orders opened and expects first deliveries around or before mid-2027; Edmunds expects U.S. showroom arrival in the second half of 2027. Those schedules differ, so neither should be treated as a guaranteed delivery date.

What should a shopper verify before reserving?
- Confirm the final battery capacity, certified EPA range and test-cycle basis when Jaguar publishes production specifications.
- Ask for the final delivered-car charging details, including connector compatibility, AC limits and guidance for public fast-charging.
- Inspect rear-seat ingress, knee room, cargo opening and visibility in person when production cars are available; the published cargo figure alone cannot answer whether the space suits a particular trip.
- Check final MSRP, order terms, delivery timing and local service access before making a reservation decision.
- If planning home charging, a J1772 Level 2 charger is a relevant category to investigate, but do not assume a particular unit is Jaguar-approved. Confirm the production car’s port and Jaguar’s compatibility guidance, plus home electrical capacity and installation requirements, before buying.
For alternatives such as the Porsche Taycan or Mercedes-AMG GT, compare final local pricing and availability, certified range on the same test basis, charging port and cable reach, independent performance results, rear-seat access, cargo needs and service access. The available reveal coverage does not establish current competitor specifications, so a numerical comparison would require current model-year data.
