The Triumph Bonneville T40 is a new, smaller-capacity Bonneville with classic styling and modern rider technology—but the right comparison depends on your market and variant. For India, Triumph’s product page lists the T40 Black with a 350 cc engine and currently says “Price coming soon”; a launch-date comparison report puts the T40 and T40 Black at ₹2,79,999 ex-showroom Delhi. The closest alternatives here are the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350.
What is the Triumph Bonneville T40?
Triumph announced the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black on 6 October 2026 as classic-styled motorcycles powered by a dedicated version of its TR Series engine. The manufacturer highlights the teardrop tank, round headlight, spoked wheels, twin shocks and peashooter-style silencer. It also describes a 4-inch circular TFT with smartphone connectivity, five riding modes, cruise control, lean-sensitive Optimised Cornering ABS and Optimised Cornering Traction Control as part of the range’s equipment. These are manufacturer-described features, not conclusions from an independent ride test. Triumph’s 6 October announcement introduces the models.

Why some T40 specifications differ
Triumph’s US-facing T40 page lists a different configuration: 398 cc, 32 PS and 36 Nm. Those are US-market figures, not an alternative specification for the India-listed 350 cc model. Check your market’s product page and the exact variant on the dealer quotation before comparing numbers. Triumph’s US page provides the US-market specification.
India prices: T40, T4 and Classic 350
The official India T40 Black product page currently displays “Price coming soon.” Separately, a ZigWheels comparison published on 6 October 2026 reports ₹2,79,999 ex-showroom Delhi for both the T40 and T40 Black, and ₹2,54,999 ex-showroom Delhi for the T4. It places the Royal Enfield Classic 350 range at approximately ₹1.87 lakh–₹2.23 lakh ex-showroom Chennai. These are dated secondary-source figures from different cities, not a same-city price comparison or a current dealer quote. See the ZigWheels T40–Classic 350 comparison.

For the Honda CB350, a current ZigWheels comparison reports a starting price of ₹2.00 lakh for the Honda and ₹2.80 lakh for the T40. The comparison does not establish a matched city, variant or price basis, so treat those as indicative page figures rather than directly comparable on-road prices. See the ZigWheels CB350–T40 comparison.
Before deciding on price, ask dealers for an itemised on-road quotation in your city for a named variant. Ex-showroom prices do not capture the full amount payable, and the cited figures may change.

How the T40 compares with the CB350 and Classic 350
The comparison figures below come from different published comparison pages and are not harmonised factory measurements. In particular, the quoted city, variant and weight conventions may differ; use them as a starting point, then verify matching specifications and local prices.
| Model | Price reported in comparison | Power figure reported | Weight reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Triumph Bonneville T40 | ₹2,79,999 ex-showroom Delhi (T40 and T40 Black), ZigWheels, 6 October 2026 | 29 PS at 7,000 rpm (India-facing Triumph specification) | 195 kg wet (India-facing Triumph specification); 195 kg kerb weight in the CB350 comparison |
| Triumph T4 | ₹2,54,999 ex-showroom Delhi, ZigWheels, 6 October 2026 | Not stated in the cited comparison | Not stated in the cited comparison |
| Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Approximately ₹1.87 lakh–₹2.23 lakh ex-showroom Chennai, ZigWheels, 6 October 2026 | Not stated in the cited comparison | Not stated in the cited comparison |
| Honda CB350 | Starting at ₹2.00 lakh in ZigWheels’ current comparison; city and price basis not established there | 21.07 PS at 5,500 rpm in ZigWheels’ comparison | 186 kg kerb weight in ZigWheels’ comparison |
The T40 and CB350 figures in the last comparison are reported by ZigWheels; the Classic 350 and Delhi ex-showroom prices come from its T40–Classic 350 comparison. Triumph’s India specification lists the T40 Black at 29 PS and 195 kg wet; don’t assume that wet weight and a comparison site’s kerb-weight figure use the same convention.
What matters beyond engine size
- Price: Compare itemised on-road quotations for the same city and a named variant, not Chennai and Delhi ex-showroom figures against an unspecified starting price.
- Performance: Compare power and torque with units and engine speeds, and use figures for the market in which you are buying.
- Weight: Confirm whether a figure is wet, kerb or another measure before treating small differences as meaningful.
- Equipment: Check the exact variant’s standard rider aids and electronics rather than assuming all listed range features are fitted to every version.
- Ergonomics: Sit on the motorcycle if possible; seat height alone does not establish how easily a rider can reach the ground or manage the bike at low speed.
- Ownership: Ask local dealers about service access and costs. The cited comparisons do not provide reliable, like-for-like dealer-network or ownership-cost data.
Seat height and the low-seat accessory
Triumph lists an accessory low seat for the India T40 Black that reduces the published seat height from 790 mm to 770 mm. Confirm fitment for your chosen variant and whether the accessory is available locally before relying on the lower figure. Triumph India’s T40 Black page lists the seat option.
Which one should you choose?
The available figures do not support a universal “best” choice: the prices are not all matched by city and basis, the weight conventions differ, and there is no like-for-like ownership-cost comparison or independent ride test here. Choose based on a local, variant-specific quotation; verified equipment and specifications for your market; a comfortable fit; and the dealer support you can access. If you are cross-shopping the T40 with the Classic 350 or CB350, compare them in person and confirm all figures with the selling dealer before booking.

International availability timing
Triumph’s current Media Kit gives an international schedule of pricing in early 2027 and dealership arrivals from spring 2027. That schedule should not be treated as an India launch or delivery timetable: it does not override India-specific announcements or establish that every territory follows the same dates. For India, rely on local Triumph announcements and dealer confirmation.
