Jaguar unveiled the Type 01, its first production electric car on a dedicated EV platform, in New York on 6 October 2026. It is a luxury four-door GT, with orders due to open in early 2027 and first deliveries expected in the second half of that year. The launch puts Jaguar’s new electric identity in the spotlight—but the headline’s claim that “no one remembers” Ferrari’s electric car is a provocation, not a measured finding.
What Jaguar unveiled
Jaguar calls the Type 01 a luxury four-door grand tourer and the first production Jaguar built on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The company’s launch announcement describes a long bonnet, low roof and proportions made possible by the EV platform. Jaguar says orders will open in early 2027, with first client deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. Jaguar’s 6 October 2026 announcement introduced the car and its schedule.
JLR says production is planned to begin in 2027 at Solihull. Its stated British manufacturing footprint also includes electric drive units and battery packs from Wolverhampton, and pressed body panels from Halewood, Merseyside. Those are planned production arrangements, not evidence that customer cars are already being built. JLR’s manufacturing announcement sets out the locations.
What Jaguar claims about range and performance
Jaguar and JLR quote up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm, with 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds. The company estimates up to 400 miles of EPA range and says a 350 kW rapid DC charger can add 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes. These are manufacturer figures—not independent test results—and JLR says they are estimates subject to homologation. It also warns that real-world range and charging depend on conditions. The car’s announced usable battery capacity is 118 kWh and its electrical architecture is 850 volts. Jaguar’s launch release and JLR’s follow-up provide the specifications and qualifications.

Price, dimensions and intended buyer
The Guardian reported a starting price of £130,000, a length of more than 5.2 metres and a width of 2 metres. Those figures were reported by the newspaper and were not included in the Jaguar release cited here; treat the price as reported rather than as a confirmed final retail price. The Guardian also described Jaguar’s intended audience as younger, wealthier buyers drawn to design and technology, and reported that the company would defer a China launch for “a couple of years.” The Guardian’s 7 October 2026 report is the source for those details.
Why Jaguar wants the Type 01 to change its place in the market
JLR says Jaguar is meant to address a different luxury segment, with North America a priority growth market. It describes Jaguar as the all-electric marque within a wider JLR portfolio that will continue to offer internal-combustion, hybrid and battery-electric choices across its brands. This is a strategy for repositioning the marque, not proof that the shift has succeeded.

The launch is therefore about more than a new set of specifications. Jaguar is presenting a large, high-performance electric GT as a statement of what the brand should represent next. Managing director Rawdon Glover described it as “a luxury grand tourer for a new era.” The car still has to reach production, meet its eventual specifications and persuade buyers that the new direction fits Jaguar.
What happened to Ferrari’s electric car?
Ferrari’s first full-electric sports car is named Ferrari Luce. In its FY 2025 results release, Ferrari said the world première was scheduled for Rome on 25 May 2026. That release establishes the name and the announced date, but not what happened at the event or final production and delivery details. Because the scheduled date has passed, it would be misleading to describe it as an upcoming reveal without a source establishing the outcome. Ferrari’s 10 February 2026 results release records the plan.

Ferrari had previously described a production-ready chassis and powertrain, including in-house electric axles, in its October 2025 technology-workshop material. Those are Ferrari’s own technical claims, and the material does not establish the car’s final production specification. Ferrari’s workshop material covers that earlier technical presentation.
Type 01 and Luce: what can—and cannot—be compared
The two cars are part of the same wider conversation about electric luxury and performance, but the available facts do not support a complete head-to-head. Jaguar has announced a vehicle format, manufacturer estimates, an order window and an expected delivery period. The Ferrari material cited here establishes Luce’s name, an announced reveal schedule and earlier Ferrari descriptions of its technology; it does not establish the reveal outcome, final price, regional availability or delivery details.

Wallpaper* discussed Luce and Type 01 together as examples in the debate over luxury electric sports cars. That supports treating the launches as part of the same discussion, not claiming that Jaguar has displaced Ferrari in public attention. Wallpaper*’s coverage provides that editorial framing.

Does no one remember the electric Ferrari?
There is no audience poll, search-volume analysis or other awareness measure in the cited material that can establish whether people remember Ferrari’s EV. The defensible answer is narrower: Ferrari named its first full-electric sports car Luce and announced a Rome première date, while Jaguar’s Type 01 has now had its New York debut. That makes Jaguar’s launch the immediate news event, not proof that the Ferrari has been forgotten.
