Jaguar Type 00 is a design-vision concept, not a production car you can order. Unveiled at Miami Art Week on 2 December 2024, it is the first physical expression of Jaguar’s “Exuberant Modernism” philosophy and a preview of how the brand wants its electric cars to look and feel. The production follow-through is now called Type 01: a four-door electric GT on Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), with orders planned for early 2027 and first client deliveries expected in the second half of that year.
That distinction matters when reading the numbers. Type 00’s original range and rapid-charging figures were projections for a future production GT. Jaguar’s October 2026 Type 01 announcement gives newer, different figures. Neither set should be presented as an independently tested specification for the concept itself.

What the Jaguar Type 00 actually is
A physical design statement
Jaguar introduced Type 00 as a “design vision concept” at Miami Art Week in December 2024. The company described it as the physical manifestation of “Exuberant Modernism” and as the foundation for a new family of Jaguars. In practical terms, it is a full-size statement about proportion, surface treatment, materials and brand character rather than a finished model ready for dealerships.

The name also carries a deliberate message. “Type” refers to Jaguar’s heritage naming tradition. Jaguar explained that the first zero represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the second identifies the vehicle as car zero in a new lineage. The result is a name that connects the electric future to the marque’s past without treating the concept as a retro exercise.

What it is not
Type 00 is not the production electric GT, and its show-car dimensions and details should not be assumed to appear unchanged on a road car. Jaguar’s current production announcement uses the name Type 01. It describes a four-door GT built on JEA, with a launch timetable and specifications that supersede the concept announcement for the purpose of discussing the vehicle customers may eventually buy.
The design language behind the concept
Long-hood, boat-tail proportions
Most electric cars use a short hood and a cabin pushed forward to maximize interior volume. Type 00 intentionally takes a different route. Jaguar gives it a long hood, a sweeping roofline, a fastback profile and a boat-tail rear. The concept sits on 23-inch alloy wheels, making the body appear long, low and carefully stretched rather than appliance-like.
These proportions are not an efficiency claim. They are a visual declaration that an electric Jaguar should have presence and drama even when it no longer needs a large engine bay. The silhouette recalls the company’s grand-tourer tradition in spirit, but it does not copy a particular historic model.

Sculpture instead of visual clutter
Jaguar’s surfaces are unusually clean. Flush body panels, body-harmonised glazing and a panoramic roof make the exterior read as one continuous sculpture. A glassless rear tailgate removes a familiar visual break at the back of the car. Cameras, charging ports and front air intakes are hidden until required, preserving the uncluttered appearance.
Some functions become theatrical details. Deployable brass side pieces remain concealed in the body and emerge when needed, turning hardware into an intentional part of the design experience. The approach suggests that Jaguar wants technology to be present without making the vehicle look like a collection of screens, sensors and cooling apertures.

Miami Pink and London Blue
The concept was shown in two interpretations called Miami Pink and London Blue. Jaguar associated the pink with Miami’s Art Deco setting and the blue with British heritage. Showing both versions helped the company present Type 00 as a cultural object as much as an automobile: the Miami reveal was staged as a visual and artistic re-emergence for the brand.
That presentation supports a conclusion about Jaguar’s intended identity, not about public reaction. No consumer study in the available material establishes whether buyers prefer the colours, proportions or degree of theatricality.
Type 00 and Type 01: the important differences
The cleanest way to understand Jaguar’s strategy is to separate the concept from the announced production car.

The table is not a laboratory comparison. The two range figures come from different announcements and describe different stages of development. A lower announced number for Type 01 does not prove that the production car is less capable than the concept; it reflects the change from an early projection to a later company specification.
What Jaguar originally promised about electric capability
The 2024 projection
When Type 00 was unveiled, Jaguar said the first new-generation production car would be a UK-built electric four-door GT using dedicated JEA hardware. The company projected up to 430 miles of EPA range and up to 200 miles of range added in 15 minutes on a rapid charger. Jaguar explicitly said official range would depend on final testing.

Those numbers belong to the 2024 announcement and should be labelled as projections. They were not a measured Type 00 road-test result, and the concept itself was not presented as a customer vehicle with a certified EPA rating.

Jaguar’s 6 October 2026 announcement gives the current production-car figures: 400 miles of EPA range and up to 200 miles added in 13 minutes when using a 350 kW charger. The release also describes an 850-volt electrical architecture. These are manufacturer claims; the available information does not include independent, like-for-like testing against other electric GTs.
Charging speed depends on more than the charger’s headline rating. Battery state of charge, temperature, the vehicle’s charging curve and the capability of the particular station all affect how much energy is added in 13 minutes. Jaguar’s wording therefore describes a best-case capability under the stated 350 kW condition, not a guarantee that every public charger will deliver the same result.
The performance character Jaguar says it is targeting
Tri-motor output
Jaguar’s March 2026 engineering account describes tri-motor technology for the planned four-door GT, with more than 1,000 PS and over 1,300 Nm of torque. Those figures indicate an emphasis on forceful acceleration and the ability to control torque across the axles, but they are still manufacturer-published specifications rather than independently measured performance.
Torque vectoring and suspension control
The same engineering description names torque vectoring, dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. Torque vectoring can vary drive force between wheels to influence cornering behaviour. Air suspension allows the car to alter its ride height and spring response, while twin-valve dampers provide separate control over different phases of suspension movement.

Jaguar says the combination is intended to balance engaging performance with refinement. That is the company’s engineering target, not proof that the production car has already demonstrated a class-leading ride or handling balance in independent testing.

Distinctiveness is the product
Jaguar’s design choices imply that the company does not want its electric identity to be defined only by battery size, charging time or software. Long proportions, concealed hardware and sculptural surfaces make visual distinctiveness the central message. The concept says a future Jaguar should be recognizable from its stance and presence before a viewer notices its technical specification.
That is especially significant in a market where many electric vehicles share similar aerodynamic shapes, short hoods and flush door treatments. Jaguar is choosing a more expressive interpretation of efficiency: the body remains dramatic, while the technology is integrated so thoroughly that it does not dominate the surface.
Heritage without nostalgia
The Type name and leaper reference Jaguar’s history, but the concept avoids literal retro styling. Instead of reproducing a classic grille or a historic body line, it uses familiar ideas—grand-touring proportions, a sense of occasion and visual drama—in a new electric form. Jaguar’s stated philosophy is future-facing, yet it relies on heritage to make the change legible to existing enthusiasts.
Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, described the objective as a “fearlessly creative new character” that remains true to the brand’s DNA while standing out in the future. Chief creative officer Professor Gerry McGovern called Type 00 the first physical manifestation and “foundation stone” of a new family. Those statements explain why the concept is more than a styling exercise: it is intended to reset expectations for every subsequent Jaguar.

A new relationship with luxury
The Miami Art Week setting was part of the message. Jaguar presented the reveal through art, colour and cultural association rather than a conventional motor-show launch. That choice positions the brand alongside design and fashion conversations, where rarity, authorship and emotional impact matter as much as practical specifications.
It does not establish that Jaguar will become a volume leader or that customers will accept the strategy. It does show the kind of luxury Jaguar wants to project: highly curated, visually confident and willing to make unusual choices.
How the concept fits JLR’s wider electrification plan
JLR’s FY2024/25 annual report places Type 00 within a broader corporate move toward electrification. The report identifies a first production all-electric Jaguar on dedicated JEA while describing different powertrain approaches across JLR’s other brands and markets. Therefore, Jaguar’s electric-only repositioning should not be generalized into a claim that every JLR brand is following exactly the same plan.

Jaguar uses that freedom to justify Type 00’s unusual proportions and to carry the design language into Type 01.
What remains unknown
- Type 00’s show-car details are not a confirmed production-equipment list. The final Type 01 may change dimensions, materials, lighting, doors, glazing and aerodynamic treatments.
- The published range and charging figures are Jaguar claims. Independent testing, real-world winter range and a full charging curve are not established here.
- Jaguar has announced an early-2027 ordering window, but pricing, market-by-market availability, standard equipment and the final order process have not been specified in the cited announcements.
- No evidence establishes how customers will respond to the concept’s styling, colour choices or art-led launch strategy.
A timeline from concept to production
- 2 December 2024: Jaguar unveils Type 00 at Miami Art Week as the first physical expression of Exuberant Modernism.
- December 2024: Jaguar describes a future UK-built electric four-door GT on JEA and publishes the projected 430-mile EPA range and 200-mile, 15-minute rapid-charging figure, subject to final testing.

Bottom line for readers
Type 00 matters because it makes Jaguar’s electric strategy visible before the production car arrives. Its long hood, boat-tail, 23-inch wheels, hidden hardware and art-directed presentation communicate a deliberate attempt to make electric Jaguars feel rare and emotionally charged rather than interchangeable. But it is still a concept.
The tangible next step is Type 01, the announced four-door electric GT on JEA. Read the 2024 Type 00 figures as development projections and the 2026 Type 01 figures as newer manufacturer claims. The strongest conclusion supported by the announcements is not that Jaguar has already proved a technical advantage; it is that the company is betting its electric future on a distinctive design identity and a highly specified grand-touring flagship.
