Jaguar Type 00 is a design-vision concept unveiled on 3 December 2024, not the production car. It is the first physical expression of Jaguar’s “Exuberant Modernism” philosophy: a deliberately dramatic, electric-first statement about how the marque wants future cars to look and feel. Jaguar did not publish a production battery, motor, range or acceleration specification for Type 00.
The production model that followed is the four-door electric GT named Type 01, unveiled in October 2026. Its announced figures—118 kWh usable battery, up to 400 miles of estimated EPA range, up to 1,030 PS and a 3.2-second 0–62 mph time—belong to Type 01, not Type 00, and remain manufacturer claims subject to homologation and real-world conditions.

What is the Jaguar Type 00?
Jaguar introduced Type 00 at Miami Art Week on 3 December 2024. The company called it a “design vision concept” and a physical manifestation of its creative philosophy, intended to inspire future Jaguars rather than serve as a customer-ready specification sheet.

The name is deliberately symbolic. “Type” connects the concept to Jaguar’s lineage, including the E-type. The first zero refers to zero tailpipe emissions, while the second identifies the vehicle as car zero in a new lineage. It is therefore a statement about a reset in Jaguar’s design and propulsion direction, not the model designation of the production vehicle.

In May 2026 Jaguar confirmed that its production four-door electric GT would be called Type 01, then unveiled that car in October 2026. Type 01’s “0” again denotes electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions; “1” represents the first Jaguar of a new era. Treating Type 00 and Type 01 as interchangeable creates errors about specifications, availability and pricing.
Type 00 design: the details Jaguar wanted people to notice
Long bonnet and fastback proportions
Type 00 uses an unusually long bonnet, a sweeping roofline and a fastback profile. Jaguar also described a boat-tail rear treatment and 23-inch wheels. Together those elements produce a low, elongated silhouette closer to a grand touring sculpture than a conventional electric sedan.
The proportions are intentional visual messaging. Jaguar wanted the concept to look instantly different from familiar electric-car shapes, while still drawing on the company’s history of long-nosed sports cars. The E-type reference is a lineage cue, not a claim that Type 00 is a modern replacement for that car.

Bodywork is kept visually clean with flush surfaces. The rear tailgate is described as glassless, an unusual concept-car treatment that removes a conventional rear window from the exterior composition. Because Type 00 is a design study, this feature should be read as an exploration of form; Jaguar has not stated that every concept detail will be carried over unchanged to Type 01 or later models.

Panoramic roof and show-car colors
The panoramic roof uses glazing harmonised with the body rather than presenting as a contrasting black panel. Jaguar showed the concept in two colors: Miami Pink and London Blue. These colors reinforce the car’s expressive role, but they do not establish a production paint range.
What “Exuberant Modernism” means here
Jaguar uses “Exuberant Modernism” to describe a design language that is exuberant, modernist and compelling. The company characterizes it as vibrant and fearless, future-facing while respectful of the past, and sensory and emotionally engaging.
Type 00 is the first physical demonstration of that language. Its exaggerated length, boat-tail, simplified surfaces and saturated colors are intended to make the philosophy visible rather than merely describe it in a strategy presentation. Jaguar also connected the reveal to its “Copy Nothing” message: future products should be recognizable for their own character instead of following established luxury-car templates.
Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, JLR’s chief creative officer, called Type 00 “a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy” and described it as the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars. That is Jaguar’s own creative assessment, not independent evidence that the design has been accepted by customers or that it will guarantee commercial success.

How the electric architecture relates to the concept
Jaguar says the dedicated Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA) was developed to enable Type 00’s proportions. The company’s explanation is that a bespoke electric platform gives the designers greater freedom to establish the long bonnet, low roof and broad, dramatic stance shown by the concept.
That statement explains the design and engineering rationale, but it does not make Type 00 a fully documented production vehicle. Jaguar’s 2024 announcement did not publish a battery capacity, motor count, power output, torque figure, acceleration time, range rating or charging rate for the concept. None of Type 01’s later numbers should be backfilled into Type 00.
Type 00 versus Type 01: what is actually known?
The most useful comparison separates the concept’s symbolic and design role from the production car’s announced hardware. The table below uses “not stated” where Jaguar did not publish a Type 00 figure.

What powertrain will the new electric Jaguar use?
If the question refers specifically to Type 00, the answer is that Jaguar has not published a production powertrain specification for the concept. It is clearly presented as an electric vehicle and associated with JEA, but the 2024 reveal does not establish how many motors it has, how large its battery is or how quickly it accelerates.

If the question concerns the production successor, Type 01, Jaguar’s October 2026 announcement provides the current figures. Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and a 118 kWh usable battery. Jaguar describes tri-motor technology with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, quotes up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm, and gives a 0–62 mph time of 3.2 seconds.
Jaguar estimates up to 400 miles of EPA range. “Up to” matters: the figure is a manufacturer estimate subject to homologation, and actual range varies with speed, temperature, terrain, traffic, wheel and tire configuration, payload and climate-control use. The same qualification applies to the charging claim. Jaguar says a 350 kW rapid DC charger can add up to 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes, but charging performance depends on battery state, temperature, charger capability and other conditions.

A design-led reset
Type 00 makes Jaguar’s intended repositioning unusually visible. Instead of introducing a conventional replacement and gradually changing its styling, the company used a concept to announce a break in presentation: electric-first propulsion, modern luxury and unmistakable proportions.

It does not prove that buyers will prefer the direction, that the design will be commercially successful or that every dramatic feature will reach production.

From statement to manufacturing plan
Type 01 makes the strategy more concrete. Jaguar positions it as a distinct luxury offering within JLR’s portfolio. The company says the car will be designed, engineered and built in the UK, with production planned to begin in 2027 at Solihull. Jaguar says its electric drive units and battery packs will be made in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels in Halewood.
Jaguar has also cited more than 360 patent applications and a drag coefficient of 0.23 for Type 01. Those are production-car claims associated with the 2026 announcement, not measurements or specifications published for Type 00.
When can customers buy it?
Type 00 itself is a concept and is not presented as an orderable model. For Type 01, JLR says orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first client deliveries anticipated in the second half of 2027. The announced starting price is £130,000.

How to read the headline numbers responsibly
Several Type 01 figures are easy to misattribute or overstate. Keep the following distinctions attached whenever you discuss them:
- Concept versus production: Type 00 has no published production specification; the battery, motor and performance figures belong to Type 01.
- Estimate versus test result: the 400-mile range is an estimated EPA figure from Jaguar and remains subject to homologation. The cited sources do not provide an independent road test.
- Peak claim versus everyday output: “up to” 1,030 PS, 1,365 Nm and 200 miles of charging added describe the manufacturer’s stated maximums under relevant conditions, not guaranteed values in every drive or charging session.
- Announcement versus availability: a £130,000 starting price and early-2027 order window describe Jaguar’s plan; they do not mean a car can be purchased today.
The bottom line on Type 00
Jaguar Type 00 matters because it turns a corporate design philosophy into a physical object. Its long bonnet, fastback roof, boat-tail, flush surfaces, glassless tailgate, panoramic roof and 23-inch wheels present the visual language Jaguar wants associated with its electric future. The concept’s job is to communicate direction, not to provide a complete owner’s specification.
Type 01 is the vehicle to watch for real-world performance, range, charging, price and ordering information. Jaguar’s 2026 announcement gives it an 850-volt system, 118 kWh usable battery, tri-motor drive and an estimated range of up to 400 miles, but those figures remain manufacturer announcements subject to certification and operating conditions. Keeping that boundary clear is the key to understanding what Type 00 actually signals: a bold intended repositioning for Jaguar, followed by a production program that is still moving toward 2027 deliveries.
