Ferrari’s Luce pairs analog-inspired instruments, machined aluminum and tactile switches with OLED displays. The cabin, designed with LoveFrom, makes physical interaction part of the car’s character rather than treating the touchscreen as the whole interface.
What is the Ferrari Luce?
The Luce is Ferrari’s first fully electric production vehicle. LoveFrom, the studio founded by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, worked with Ferrari on the car’s exterior, interior and interaction design. LoveFrom’s archive records the interior and interface presentation on 9 February 2026; Ferrari presented the complete vehicle in May 2026.
It is described as a four-door, five-seat grand tourer, with a lounge-like cabin. Its design does not try to hide that it is an EV, but it does draw on Ferrari’s history to make the controls and instruments feel familiar.
Why does the interior use physical controls?
LoveFrom describes a continuous dashboard with distinct physical controls. Switches, rotary controls and carefully machined metal sit alongside digital displays; each control is treated as an object with its own visual and tactile character.

That approach gives the driver direct, physical feedback instead of making every interaction depend on tapping a flat screen. Ferrari’s cabin combines physical buttons and rocker switches with OLED displays, rather than choosing between analog controls and digital technology. Ars Technica’s February 2026 coverage describes the result as a departure from recent Ferrari interiors, with cues from the marque’s cabins of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.
How do the instruments blend analog and digital design?
The instrument binnacle uses two overlapping OLED screens to create the appearance of traditional round gauges. The rear screen renders analog-style dials through cutouts; the forward layer and aluminum rings add depth, and a physical needle sits between the screens. Digital information is therefore presented through an arrangement that recalls conventional instruments, rather than as graphics on a single flat panel.

The custom typeface, called LoveFrom Maranello, takes inspiration from Veglia and Jaeger instruments used in the 1950s and ’60s, according to MotorTrend. The brushed aluminum, round forms and needle reinforce that historical reference without making the display itself an old mechanical gauge.
What did Ive, Newson and LoveFrom design?
LoveFrom’s work extends beyond the dashboard layout. The steering wheel, center display, controls and start-up sequence all contribute to the cabin’s physical, object-led character.

A steering wheel with Ferrari and Nardi references
The wheel reinterprets the classic Nardi three-spoke form. MotorTrend reports milled billet-aluminum spokes, leather wrapping and tactile manettino control pods with differently shaped knobs and indicator pointers. Aluminum buttons operate the turn signals. Ars Technica describes the wheel as CNC-milled from recycled aluminum and reports that it weighs 400 g less than Ferrari’s usual steering wheel.
A screen that can turn toward either occupant
The central infotainment screen swivels on a pivot or ball joint so it can face the driver or passenger. Its placement makes the screen a shared, adjustable part of the cabin rather than a fixed panel. Aluminum toggles on the screen assembly control seat heating or cooling and climate temperature, according to MotorTrend.

A ceremonial start sequence
The rectangular Ferrari key combines glass, aluminum and an e-ink display. MotorTrend describes pressing it into its receiver as the start of a visual sequence: the key’s yellow color appears to flow into the illuminated glass shifter. It is a designed ritual around starting the car, not simply another screen animation.

The cabin’s vintage references sit inside a high-performance electric grand tourer. The published figures are not all presented at the same level of precision, so they are best read as reported specifications and targets rather than a single finalized market specification.

What makes the Luce interior feel old-school?
“Old-school” describes the way the Luce uses and presents its controls, not a retreat from digital technology. Physical switches, rotary controls, metal parts and a real instrument needle provide tactile and visual links to earlier Ferrari cabins. OLED screens supply the information, while layered displays, aluminum rings and heritage-inspired typography shape how that information looks.
That combination is the defining contrast in the interior: instead of pursuing screen-only minimalism, the Luce gives controls distinct shapes and materials, then sets digital displays into a cockpit informed by Ferrari’s past.
