The announcement, made September 30, means his departure is still in the future as of October 3, 2026. Piochon joined the Veyron project as Project Quality Manager and later became Quality Director, but Bugatti’s account describes a career that grew well beyond quality oversight.
What Bugatti announced
In its September 30, 2026 announcement, Bugatti said Piochon’s 24-year career with the brand will formally end on October 31, 2026. That is an announced departure date, not a completed departure.
Bugatti frames the change as a transition between the W16 era and the beginning of the Tourbillon era. The company says Piochon helped prepare the Molsheim team and facilities for Tourbillon production. The release identifies Mate Rimac as CEO of Bugatti Rimac and as the future President of Bugatti Automobiles, but does not specify when that future presidency takes effect.
How Piochon’s role changed over 24 years

The progression matters: Piochon’s early remit was connected directly to setting requirements for the Veyron, while his later responsibilities included production, the Molsheim site and executive leadership. Calling him “the man responsible for Bugatti quality” is shorthand, not evidence that he alone controlled every aspect of the company’s quality work.

What “responsible for quality” means in the Veyron story
Bugatti says Piochon joined while the first Veyron prototypes were being developed and helped establish standards for a new kind of automobile. In the company’s release, Piochon recalled: “When we were developing the Veyron, we were creating many of the standards for the very first time. We had to define what Bugatti quality meant for a completely new kind of automobile.”
Bugatti reports that he drove 100,000 km in its cars, including 60,000 km as a test driver, and remained involved in vehicle checks and test drives. Those are figures published by Bugatti in 2026, rather than independently audited statistics. The company also says almost 1,200 cars have been built since the early standards were defined.

From Molsheim’s growth to the Tourbillon era
Bugatti says the Molsheim site had around 70 people when Piochon returned in 2013 and now has close to 200. The company credits his production and site leadership with helping shape that expansion. Bugatti’s retrospective says the Tourbillon was unveiled at Molsheim in June 2024 and that La Manufacture, intended for Tourbillon production, was inaugurated in June 2026.
These details place the departure within a wider company transition, but Bugatti’s descriptions of Piochon’s influence and the significance of the change are the company’s own assessment. Piochon also said in the release that Bugatti’s production plan was full until 2030; that is his statement, not an independently confirmed forecast.

What happens next
Mate Rimac is named as Bugatti Rimac’s CEO and the future President of Bugatti Automobiles. The announcement does not give an effective date for the latter title. Until October 31, 2026, Piochon’s departure remains forthcoming, and the release does not describe a separate successor to his full range of responsibilities.
Rimac said Piochon’s influence could be seen in the cars’ standards, Molsheim’s development, and the team and culture he built. That statement captures why the announcement is more than a change in one job title: the career described by Bugatti spans the Veyron’s quality requirements, later production and site leadership, and preparation for a new model era.
