No. “Yi Long Musk” is a nickname for a Chinese social-media personality who resembles Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The reports reviewed for this article identify him as Yilong Ma, sometimes rendered Ma Yilong, and do not describe him as Musk, a Tesla executive, or an impersonator with any official link to the company. The viral clips tied to his name raised deepfake questions, but those questions are separate from who he is. The coverage does not establish that every circulating clip is authentic or synthetic.
Who the reports say he is
Chinese outlets and English-language coverage describe a man whose appearance drew comparisons to Musk, who went viral on Douyin, and who posted videos in which he imitated the Tesla CEO. CnEVPost’s May 2022 report said he came from Hebei province and that his Weibo account had been banned under the platform’s community rules at that time. Those details are dated and attributed to that report; they are not confirmed as current account status.
“Yi Long Musk” is best understood as a fan-circulated nickname, not an official name or a claim about who he is. Coverage uses the name inconsistently, so the rendering matters when you check a source.

| Rendering | Where it appears | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Yi Long Musk | Tech Times, December 15, 2021 | The viral nickname that drew mainstream English-language attention |
| Yilong Ma | Sixth Tone, 2026 report | A name-form closer to the man’s own name as used in Chinese-language coverage |
| Ma Yilong | Some related coverage | A reordering of the same name, not a separate person |
| Elon Mosaic | South China Morning Post, January 2, 2022 (as described in its summary) | A second nickname that treats the man as a Musk-style pun, not a claim of identity |
When you search, try “Yilong Ma” alongside “Musk lookalike.” That combination surfaces more of the reporting than “Yi Long Musk” alone.
Timeline of reported developments
| Date | Reported development | Source |
|---|---|---|
| November 2020 | Yilong Ma first goes viral on Douyin for his resemblance to Musk | Sixth Tone, 2026 report on the timeline |
| December 15, 2021 | A viral video circulates under the nickname “Yi Long Musk”; online users question whether the clip is a deepfake | Tech Times |
| December 20, 2021 | Musk replies with a joke about his own ancestry | CnEVPost |
| January 2, 2022 | The man is described as a viral Chinese Musk lookalike, also nicknamed “Elon Mosaic”; authenticity is presented as uncertain | South China Morning Post (summary only) |
| May 2022 | The man, said to be from Hebei, is reported to have posted Musk-style videos; his Weibo account is reported as banned under community rules; Musk comments conditionally on meeting him | CnEVPost |
| 2026 | Sixth Tone revisits Yilong Ma and reports a later appearance | Sixth Tone (summary only) |
The two dated entries that carry the most weight are the December 2021 mainstream pickup and the May 2022 CnEVPost report, because they are the most detailed on the man himself. The 2026 Sixth Tone piece is noted for its timing, but the full article was not available for review, so its later details are not described here.

What Elon Musk actually said
Musk’s public responses are short and easy to misread, so it helps to separate them.
December 20, 2021: a joke, not a claim
Replying to the lookalike story, Musk posted “Maybe I’m partly Chinese!” according to CnEVPost. It was a joke about the resemblance. It says nothing about the man’s identity and should not be cited as evidence that the two men are related or the same person.

May 9, 2022: conditional interest
In a reply on Twitter, as quoted by CnEVPost, Musk wrote: “I’d like to meet this guy (if he is real). Hard to tell with deepfakes these days.” The statement shows that he was interested in meeting the man and was unsure whether the videos were real. It is not a verification of the man or of any specific clip.
The deepfake question
Deepfake suspicion was part of the reaction from the start. Tech Times noted in December 2021 that viewers asked whether the video was manipulated, and Musk’s own May 2022 reply reflected the same doubt. Those reactions are useful as a record of how the clips were received. They do not prove that the man is fictional, that the footage is synthetic, or that it is authentic.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unresolved
- Whether any specific circulating clip is authentic or manipulated.
- Whether the man’s Weibo ban, reported in May 2022, is still in effect. Treat it as a historical report.
- The content and context of the later appearance noted in the 2026 Sixth Tone coverage.
- Any follower counts or view totals attached to the videos. Those figures change over time and are not reported here as current.
For the question you came with, the reporting is consistent: the viral figure is a Chinese lookalike, and Elon Musk is not identified as that man.
