Possibly—but there is no single software upgrade that fits every GM car or truck. Availability depends on the vehicle and the specific update. Check for an update notice on the vehicle’s touchscreen, consult the owner’s manual for your model, or ask GM support or a dealership to confirm what applies to your vehicle.
How to check whether your GM vehicle has an update
- Check the touchscreen. When an over-the-air (OTA) update is offered, GM says the vehicle displays a notice. Select “Learn more” to review the release notes and what the update covers. GM’s FAQ says installation time varies by component and update contents.
- Look up your exact vehicle in its owner’s manual. GM directs owners to the manual for information specific to their vehicle. Use the manual for the model year and system in your car or truck, rather than relying on instructions for another GM vehicle. See GM Support.
- Ask GM support or a dealership if you are unsure. Share the vehicle’s model year and model, and ask whether the named update applies. For work that must be done at a dealership, GM says the selected dealer can estimate the installation time; ask whether an appointment is needed.
- Check the update’s stated eligibility and release notes. Match the model and model year named in the announcement, then confirm what systems the update changes. “Software upgrade” could refer to different kinds of updates; do not assume an infotainment update is a performance tune, navigation-map update, recall repair, or feature unlock.
How GM software updates may be delivered

Eligibility depends on the update, not just the GM badge
GM’s July 29, 2026 announcement about a particular set of infotainment enhancements named 2025–26 Cadillac LYRIQ, OPTIQ, VISTIQ, and CT5 models. GM said OTA updates would roll out as they became available for individual vehicles. That announcement is an example of update-specific eligibility, not a list of all GM vehicles that can receive software updates. Read the announcement.

GM also reported in October 2025 that more than 4.5 million vehicles could receive OTA vehicle-system updates and that 1.6 million vehicles had received coordinated software updates in the prior year. What to do with an older USB update instruction
The 2013 Acadia manual documents a USB-based workflow for the navigation system it covers. It is evidence that this procedure existed for that system—not proof that GM currently offers the software download. Before using a USB drive, check the exact manual and contact GM support or a dealership to verify that an update for your vehicle is still available. Do not use an unofficial download or treat the old instructions as a general GM update method.

What an update notice can—and cannot—tell you
Read the release notes before accepting an offered update so you know which component or features it addresses. The notice is tied to that vehicle and update; it does not establish that other updates, such as a recall fix, map data, performance calibration, or paid feature, are included. If the information does not answer your question, use GM’s vehicle-specific resources or ask a dealership about your model.
