Is the Pathfinder Nissan’s oldest SUV?
That claim is not verified by Nissan’s current U.S. SUV and crossover listings. Nissan lists the Kicks, Rogue, Pathfinder, Murano, Armada, LEAF and Rogue Plug-in Hybrid, but the lineup page does not compare how long each nameplate has been in continuous production. Without dated model-history evidence for the candidates, the Pathfinder cannot be identified as the oldest Nissan SUV still made.
The distinction matters: a model’s age, its nameplate’s history and uninterrupted production are different claims. Nissan’s current lineup page establishes which vehicles it lists, not the chronology needed to answer those historical questions.
What role does the 2026 Pathfinder fill?
Nissan positions the Pathfinder as a three-row SUV for larger families and people who need to tow. Its 2026 product page specifies a 3.5-liter V6, a nine-speed automatic transmission and seating for up to eight. Seven-passenger seating with second-row captain’s chairs is available. These are Nissan’s specifications, not independent test results.

The same page advertises maximum towing of up to 6,000 pounds and seven drive and terrain modes. Nissan names modes including mud/rut, sand, snow, tow, sport and eco. The towing figure is a manufacturer-stated maximum; actual capability depends on the vehicle’s configuration and conditions.
Why does Nissan still make it?
The product’s advertised features suggest the Pathfinder serves buyers who need more passenger capacity and towing capability than a five-seat crossover provides. That is an inference from its three rows, available seating for eight and advertised towing capacity—not a documented explanation of Nissan’s internal strategy.
