No confirmed production Lamborghini Lanzador EV is currently planned. Lamborghini unveiled the Lanzador as an electric concept in 2023 and originally targeted a 2028 fourth model; February 2026 reporting says the company dropped that battery-electric plan in favor of a plug-in hybrid fourth model line. The often-repeated 2000-hp and 980-volt figures described possible shared-platform capabilities, not finalized Lanzador specifications.
Is the Lamborghini Lanzador cancelled?
The Lanzador was real as a concept, but it was never a sale-ready production car. Lamborghini introduced it in August 2023 as an electric GT 2+2 and preview of a planned fourth model, with 2028 as the announced target. In February 2026, Auto Express reported that Lamborghini had cancelled the battery-electric plan and would pursue a plug-in hybrid for that fourth model line instead. The cancellation has been reported by automotive media; the sources available here do not include a direct Lamborghini press release announcing it. That makes the original 2028 date historical, not a current launch schedule. Road & Track reported in March 2026 that CEO Stephan Winkelmann said Lamborghini wanted to “be ready when the time comes but not before 2030.” That describes broad future EV readiness, not a revived Lanzador EV commitment. What did 2000 hp and 980 volts actually refer to?
They were reported as possible capabilities of a shared platform, not as confirmed Lanzador output or charging specifications. Autocar attributed the figures—up to 2000 hp, also given as 1973 bhp, and 980 volts—to Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume describing a platform being developed for Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche. The report appeared in 2025; it did not establish that a production Lanzador would use those capabilities or deliver those figures. Autocar, 2025.

Voltage is not a charging-speed figure. A 980-volt platform claim does not by itself establish how quickly a particular car would charge, and it does not tell you its battery capacity or driving range. No reliable production Lanzador figures for charging rate, battery capacity, range, price, or final power output are established in the sources cited here.

The apparent conflict between the 2024 roadmap and 2026 reports is chronological: the roadmap records the earlier electric plan, while later reporting describes a change in direction. It should not be read as proof that Lamborghini still has a Lanzador EV scheduled.

What the Lanzador concept was meant to be
Lamborghini presented the Lanzador as an electric “Ultra GT” with a 2+2 layout, positioning it as a new kind of grand tourer rather than a confirmed production specification sheet. At the unveiling, Winkelmann said the concept was intended to offer a new driving experience through technology while retaining what he called a quintessentially Lamborghini character. What buyers can—and cannot—conclude
- There is no confirmed production Lanzador EV launch date. The 2028 target belonged to Lamborghini’s original concept-era plan.
- The 2000-hp and 980-volt figures are not confirmed car specifications. They were reported as possible platform capabilities.
- The current reported fourth-model direction is plug-in hybrid. Auto Express reported that shift in February 2026, including a 2029 timing, but the cited material does not provide a direct company cancellation statement.
- A future Lamborghini EV remains possible in general. The CEO’s reported post-2030 readiness comment does not put the Lanzador back on a production schedule.
