Is the INKAS Huron Fast and Light? What Its Published Specs Actually Say

INKAS calls the Huron maneuverable and lightweight, but publishes no current vehicle weight or top speed. Its 140 km/h figure comes from a 2014 report about driving after a tire puncture.

INKAS describes the Huron as a maneuverable, relatively lightweight armored personnel carrier, but its current public product page does not give the vehicle’s weight or a verified top speed. It lists a 6.7L turbo-diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic or manual transmission. A 140 km/h figure appears in a 2014 newspaper report in the specific context of continued driving after a tire puncture—not as a current, independently verified maximum speed.

What “fast and light” means for the Huron

INKAS markets the Huron for convoy protection, law enforcement and border control in high-threat environments and varied climates. Its description of the vehicle as lightweight and mobile is manufacturer positioning, not a published, like-for-like performance comparison with other carriers. The current INKAS Huron product page gives no vehicle mass, current maximum speed, comparison set or test protocol.

INKAS separately says its newer armor plate can weigh as little as half as much as industry-standard plates of the same size while meeting international resistance standards. That is a plate-level company claim; it does not mean the complete Huron weighs half as much as another vehicle. INKAS’s innovation page does not supply a Huron curb weight.

How fast is the INKAS Huron?

No current maximum road speed is published on the Huron product page. A June 13, 2014 El Tiempo report described an older Huron configuration and said it could continue driving at up to 140 km/h after a tire puncture, with the described tire-and-compressor arrangement. That context matters: the figure should not be presented as a current top-speed rating or as the result of a documented comparative test. The article also called it the fastest light-armored vehicle of its type, but did not provide a test method or comparison data.

What engine and transmission does the current listing specify?

INKAS’s current product page lists a 6.7L turbo-diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic or manual transmission. The page is undated, so this is its current published listing rather than a specification tied to a named model year. It does not state the current Huron’s horsepower, vehicle weight or maximum speed.

The historical El Tiempo account differs: for the Huron units prepared for Colombia’s National Police in 2014, it reported a Kenworth chassis and drivetrain, an 8.3-liter engine rated at 250–330 hp, a 10-speed manual Allison transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. The reviewed sources do not explain how that configuration relates to the current 6.7L listing, so the figures should not be combined into one specification.

What protection does INKAS claim?

INKAS says the Huron’s passenger compartment and engine bay are designed for 7.62×51 SC and 7.62×51 M80 NATO Ball ammunition and tested to NIJ-STD-0108.01 Level III / CEN Level B6. The company also describes floor protection against fragmentation from two DM-51 grenades or equivalent light antipersonnel mines. These are manufacturer claims; the product page does not publish an independent test report.

What equipment is listed?

Included features

  • Advanced door-lock mechanism
  • Escape hatch
  • Wide driver field of view
  • Electronic night-vision system
  • Heavy-duty electronic winch

  • Armor for key mechanical components

How many people can it carry?

The current INKAS product page reviewed here does not state passenger capacity. El Tiempo reported capacity of up to 16 passengers for the Huron in its 2014 account. Treat that as a historical figure for the reported vehicle, not as a confirmed capacity for every current configuration.

Who can inquire about buying a Huron?

The Huron-specific inquiry form on INKAS’s product page says “Not for civilian use/sale” and limits inquiries to qualified law-enforcement, commercial or institutional bodies. The same page’s general FAQ says civilians can own some armored vehicles, but that broad statement does not override the restriction shown on the Huron inquiry form.
