That is a model-level rating: SHARP’s listing does not identify the “Statistic” graphic as a separately tested variant. Treat the rating as useful evidence about the Airframe model, not proof that every helmet bearing that graphic has the same label, fit, condition or test history.
What is the Icon Airframe’s safety rating?
SHARP rates the Icon Airframe four out of five stars and identifies it as a full-face helmet. The listing describes a fibreglass shell, double-D-ring retention, a weight of 1.63 kg and UN ECE Regulation 22.05. It lists seven sizes, from XS through XXXL. The page does not show a test date in its displayed details.
SHARP also publishes linear-impact results for the Airframe at 8.5 m/s. Its graphics show scores of 5 at the top/front and rear zones, and 3 on the left and right. Those are results for the listed Airframe model; they are not a separate rating of the Statistic graphic, nor should the individual zone figures be read as a direct comparison with another helmet without considering SHARP’s method.
Check the label on the actual helmet and make sure it fits securely. The manufacturer details on SHARP’s page do not establish that every market or production variant has identical specifications or certification.

Does the Statistic graphic have its own test result?
No separate test record for the “Statistic” graphic is established by the available model listing. SHARP’s page names the Icon Airframe, not a graphic-specific test variant. The graphic name alone is not enough to establish that a particular helmet’s label, production version or condition matches the details on that page.
Avoid transferring results between models with similar names. A NHTSA-commissioned FMVSS No. 218 compliance report dated May 21, 2019 concerns a size-large Icon Airframe Pro, a different model designation. The report says, “Test failures were as follows: None.” That result applies to the tested Airframe Pro; it does not establish a test result for the standard Airframe or the Statistic graphic.

How to interpret the rating alongside other safety information
SHARP’s Icon brand page says it has tested five Icon models since 2007 and gives that tested subset an average of 3.2 out of five stars. The Airframe’s four-star score is one listing within that set. Neither figure is a rating of every Icon helmet, and the brand average is not a Statistic-specific result.
Helmet standards and independent ratings answer different questions. The SHARP page provides an independent model-level rating and test details. A certification label indicates conformity with a relevant standard, but it should not be confused with a separate independent rating of the exact graphic or specimen.

What U.S. DOT certification means
For U.S. riders, NHTSA says manufacturers self-certify helmets to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 218. NHTSA does not approve helmets, although it tests some helmets and publishes findings. Its helmet-selection guidance explains what to look for on the DOT symbol and label. A DOT mark should not be described as proof that NHTSA tested or pre-approved that specific helmet.
NHTSA’s guidance is direct: “Always wear a helmet that meets U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 218.” Check the label on the helmet you are considering and confirm that it is appropriate for the rider’s jurisdiction and intended use.

How to assess an Airframe before buying or riding
- Confirm the exact model. Check that the helmet is an Airframe, rather than an Airframe Pro or another Icon family. Use the model name on the helmet and product documentation, not only a graphic name or retailer headline.
- Inspect its certification label. For U.S. use, check for the DOT symbol and the information required on the label. For other jurisdictions, verify the certification applicable to local rules and the helmet’s actual label.
- Check fit and retention. Try the helmet on and confirm that it fits securely and that the retention system can be fastened correctly. SHARP lists the Airframe’s retention system as double-D-ring, but the model listing cannot verify fit on an individual rider.
- Match the evidence to the helmet. Use SHARP’s Airframe rating as model-level evidence. Do not treat the separate Airframe Pro report as an Airframe test, or infer a Statistic-specific result where none is listed.
- Verify the particular item and its availability. The current official Icon Motosports site presents helmet models including Airframe Pro and other product families; it does not establish that the exact Airframe Statistic graphic is currently sold. Confirm the exact variant, size, condition and labels with the seller before purchase.
Why helmet use matters beyond this model
NHTSA reports 6,228 motorcyclists were killed in 2024, representing 16% of all traffic fatalities. The agency reports DOT-compliant helmet use at 74% in 2023. These are population-level figures, not measurements of the Airframe or its graphic.
The National Safety Council’s motorcycle helmet summary presents NHTSA-derived estimates that helmets are 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle operators and 41% effective for passengers. The NSC page also reports observed DOT-compliant helmet use of 82.7% in states with universal helmet laws versus 65.9% in states with weak or no helmet laws, citing NHTSA’s 2023 use research. Those use figures describe observed wearing rates, not helmet effectiveness. NHTSA’s 2023 helmet-use report catalogue record identifies the underlying national results.
