For the 2026 model year, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is widely described as America’s last or only new sedan combining a manual transmission, a V8 and rear-wheel drive. Cadillac’s own 2025 brochure makes the narrower claim that it is the only sedan on the market with a V8 and manual transmission. The broader exclusivity claim is plausible, but the available sources do not amount to an independent census of every sedan sold in the U.S.
What makes the CT5-V Blackwing unusual?
The 2026 CT5-V Blackwing brings together three features that are increasingly rare in a new performance sedan: a V8 engine, a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Cadillac specifies a hand-built, supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and lists the six-speed manual as standard; a 10-speed automatic is also available. That transmission distinction matters: the Blackwing is not manual-only. Buyers can choose the automatic, so the accurate description is that it is a sedan offered with a manual V8 and rear-wheel drive—not that every Blackwing has a clutch pedal.
Is it really the only one left in America?
Cadillac’s 2025 CT5 V-Series brochure says, “Cementing its powerful reputation, CT5-V Blackwing is the only sedan with a V8 engine and a manual transmission on the market.” That is a direct manufacturer claim, but it is dated to the 2025 brochure and does not mention rear-wheel drive in the wording. More recent secondary coverage describes the 2026 Blackwing as America’s last or only manual V8 sedan, and Edmunds identifies it as rear-wheel drive. Taken together, these sources support the headline as a concise description of the car’s rarity. They do not prove the broader claim through a complete, independently verified list of every new sedan available in the United States. “Widely described as America’s last manual V8 sedan” is therefore the most careful formulation.
What does the 2026 Blackwing offer?
Beyond its defining powertrain, Cadillac lists performance and comfort equipment including Brembo front and rear brakes, Magnetic Ride Control, launch control with line lock, an AKG 16-speaker audio system and an enhanced performance data recorder. The manufacturer also advertises a 0–60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed above 200 mph on a racetrack; these are Cadillac’s claims, not independent test results or advice about public-road driving. The 10-speed automatic configuration can be equipped with Super Cruise, and Cadillac lists carbon-ceramic brakes and the Precision Package among available options. Those choices broaden the car’s appeal, but they are separate from the manual-transmission configuration that makes the Blackwing notable to enthusiasts seeking three pedals and a V8.
