Not officially. Audi has confirmed that a fully electric sports car previewed by the Concept C is planned to enter production and launch in 2027. Its official statements do not call it an R8. Separately, Autocar has reported that a plug-in hybrid R8 could return around that time, but Audi has not confirmed that report.
What Audi has confirmed for 2027
In a March 17, 2026 interview, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the Concept C previews “an emotional electric sports car” that “will be built and will launch as a production model in 2027.” Audi’s interview is explicit about the planned car’s electric character and timing, but it does not identify it as an R8.
Audi’s April 23, 2026 production announcement says preparations are underway at Böllinger Höfe for the new electric model previewed by Concept C, and that the fully electric sports model will be produced there from 2027. That announcement confirms a production site and plan, not the final model name, specifications, price, or markets where it will be sold.
Why an R8 comeback is being reported
Autocar has reported that development of a third-generation R8 has moved beyond feasibility, with a tentative late-2027 debut and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Those details are Autocar’s reporting, not Audi-confirmed specifications. The cited official Audi statements do not announce an R8 revival, and the available sources do not establish that the reported R8 and the Concept C electric sports car are the same vehicle.

Concept C is not the production car
Audi describes concept vehicles as demonstrations of potential design and technology developments. Its Concept Cars information identifies the Concept C as a concept vehicle, not a production vehicle. Audi’s separate production announcement establishes that an electric sports model previewed by the concept is planned for production; it does not make the show car itself the finished model.

Audi says the R8 ran from 2006 to 2024. The company reported that 45,949 examples were produced, with the final R8 rolling off the line at Böllinger Höfe in March 2024. Audi’s account of the R8’s end of production makes clear that the original model had finished production before the newly announced electric sports car was confirmed.
