No—at least, the official figures do not prove that it is. Toyota publishes a 0–60 mph time of 5.4 seconds for the 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, but does not identify that as an EV-only result or as a GR SPORT-specific time. BMW gives the 2025 M5 a 3.4-second 0–60 mph time for its combined engine-and-motor powertrain, not electric-only running. Neither figure supports the headline claim.
What the published acceleration figures actually measure
Toyota’s U.S. model page lists the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid at 324 net combined horsepower and 0–60 mph in 5.4 seconds. It does not say that the sprint is made in EV-only mode, nor does it attribute the time specifically to the GR SPORT grade. What EV-only mode means for the M5
BMW describes the M5’s ELECTRIC operating mode as intended “for locally emission-free driving.” Its announcement says the V8 engages if the driver uses kickdown or selects the transmission’s manual mode with the paddles. RAV4 GR SPORT figures need trim-specific context
Toyota identifies the 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid GR SPORT as the first-ever GR SPORT model in the U.S., developed in collaboration with Toyota GAZOO Racing Company. But the cited U.S. model page’s 5.4-second acceleration claim is not marked as specific to that grade. Toyota’s May 2025 announcement separately gives a manufacturer-estimated 52-mile electric range for the 2026 PHEV lineup. That is a lineup estimate, not the SE-specific 54-mile EPA estimate on the current model page; the two numbers have different scopes. Neither is an acceleration result. To establish which vehicle accelerates faster while operating electrically, both would need mode-specific measurements over the same interval and under comparable conditions. Relevant variables include battery state of charge, test surface, tires and test protocol. The official U.S. pages cited here do not supply matching EV-only times for the RAV4 GR SPORT and M5, so they cannot settle that comparison. Specifications and grade availability may also differ outside the U.S.
