Toyota first revealed its all-electric Highlander as a 2027 model on February 10, 2026, with a stated maximum range of 320 miles. Toyota’s current U.S. materials, updated September 25, 2026, call it the 2028 Highlander and estimate up to 315 miles for the long-range all-wheel-drive versions. The latest U.S. timing puts those models on sale in early 2027; Toyota has not announced pricing.
Is the 2027 Toyota Highlander electric?
Yes. The vehicle in Toyota’s original U.S. announcement is a battery-electric, three-row SUV. Toyota’s current U.S. announcement and product page identify it as the 2028 Highlander, rather than the 2027 model year used at the initial reveal. The change explains why early reports say 2027 while current Toyota buyer information uses 2028. These details concern the U.S. vehicle; Canadian model-year labels and range figures should not be assumed to match.
Toyota says the new model is its first three-row battery-electric vehicle for the U.S. market and its first battery-electric vehicle assembled in America. The Highlander name has a long U.S. history: Toyota reports more than 3.6 million Highlanders sold in the country from 2001 through 2025. That historical total is not a forecast of demand for the electric model.
What are the Highlander EV’s range and power figures?
Toyota offers two grades, XLE and Limited, with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive combinations depending on grade and battery. The figures below are Toyota estimates, not independent range-test results; actual range varies with conditions.

The earlier 320-mile figure was Toyota’s estimate in the February 2026 2027-model reveal. It is not the current estimate: Toyota’s September 2026 U.S. specifications list 315 miles for the 95.8-kWh AWD versions.
How much space does the electric Highlander have?
Toyota lists three rows and seating for up to seven when the available second-row bench is fitted. Captain’s chairs are standard, according to Toyota’s current product page. The SUV measures 198.8 inches long, 78.3 inches wide and 67.3 inches tall, with a 120.1-inch wheelbase.

- With the third row in use: Toyota lists 15.9 cubic feet of cargo volume.
- With the third row folded: Toyota lists 45.6 cubic feet of cargo volume.
Those figures give a useful sense of the trade-off: the Highlander retains three-row seating, but carrying cargo behind the third row means working with the smaller stated capacity.
How does charging work?
The U.S. Highlander uses a North American Charging System (NACS) port and supports Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging. Toyota lists an 11-kW onboard AC charger and says a dual-voltage 120V/240V charging cable is included. That cable is not the same thing as a dedicated Level 2 home charging station; installation needs and compatibility depend on the home’s electrical setup and the equipment selected.

For DC fast charging, Toyota says a 10% to 80% charge can take around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. That is not a guaranteed time for every charger, battery temperature or charging session. Toyota Global’s earlier technical announcement described approximately 30 minutes as a development target using a 150-kW/350A rapid charger at an outside temperature of -10°C, from roughly 10% to 80%.
Toyota also says the Highlander can supply power to external devices through vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Its U.S. release says bidirectional accessories must be purchased separately but does not identify a specific accessory or supplier.

What features and equipment has Toyota announced?
Toyota lists a standard 14-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, Toyota Audio Multimedia, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, customizable ambient lighting and SofTex-trimmed seating. Depending on grade, announced available equipment includes a fixed panoramic roof, ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats. Toyota says AWD versions include Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control; these are manufacturer specifications, not independently evaluated performance results.

Toyota’s September 25, 2026 update expects the XLE AWD and Limited AWD with the 95.8-kWh battery to arrive in early 2027. The XLE FWD with the 77.0-kWh battery is expected in mid-2027. Toyota says it will announce MSRP closer to the on-sale date, so there is no official Toyota price yet.

The Associated Press, reporting an Edmunds estimate, puts the expected starting price at about $60,000. That is a third-party estimate for the vehicle described as a 2028 Highlander, not a Toyota-confirmed MSRP.
Toyota says the vehicle will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Batteries will be assembled at Toyota’s North Carolina battery plant and by a supplier partner.
What to know before comparing it with other three-row EVs
The announced specifications establish the Highlander’s battery choices, estimated range, output, seating and cargo figures, charging hardware and expected U.S. arrival windows. They do not establish how it performs against rivals in independent range tests, real-world third-row comfort or charging tests. For a useful comparison, match U.S. configurations and check battery size, drivetrain, range-estimate method, cargo space with all seats in place, charging conditions and whether required cables or V2L equipment are included.
